Man squats.For example?
I'm not disagreeing (yet!) but this seems to be a common sentiment and I personally don't understand what moments wouldn't translate well in an updated remakesave for crashing the highwind into WEAPONS repeatedly
*slow claps*Man squats.
In fact, the entire Honeybee/Don arc.
The slapstick, violence comedy.
The hyper-exaggerated characters, such as Heidegger with their cartoon laughter and demeanor. I mean, fucking Bugenhagen is an eccentric old man on a flying ball. Put that in a Compilation-style FFVII and try to get it to work.
Fucking Cait Sith, man. That he wasn't on the giant robot in AC is telling, and he didn't exactly work at just the cat part either.
I mean, the writing, the way scenes are set out, the scenarios and much of the mini-game gameplay is all based around a chibi-ish artstyle. SNES spritework translated to 3D. If you want to remake it in the contemporary FFVII artstyle, you'd have to re-work so much of it else it'd fall flat on its face. Just look at the vast tonal difference between anything in the Compilation compared to FFVII itself. And those few elements they did keep tonally the same, such as Rude and Reno, were so ridiculously out of place they'd have threatened to de-rail the entire film were it not already a train-wreck from the word go.
And once you lose that tone, that wistfulness, it's not FFVII anymore. It's something else. I didn't fall in love with hyper-androgynous, "I can't save anyone", navel-gazing characters in a colour-less, super-serious world.
I like this post, so much true.Man squats.

By the way, has anyone tried understanding the formulas in the video?

Anyway, there were a lot of favorite moments; I loved the satisfaction of of the chocobo breeding. However the first time I saw this, I was pretty stoked.

This thread made me think about how much I miss a good RPG. I was going to wait for Xenoblade. Ironically though I am just going to download Final Fantasy IX.
Too bad the Compilation did way much more harm than good for FFVII, especially having characters act in ways they did not before, even with the ho-hum translation.
Exactly. I would even say that the game presents opposing natures in art styles. All of the characters are fighting for something better, but the fighting is shown to be against the character all of them have. They would all rather be doing something else. They hate that they have to keep fighting and question themselves on whether or not it's for the best. Even the bad guys have something else they'd rather be focusing on.And once you lose that tone, that wistfulness, it's not FFVII anymore. It's something else.
FFIX is really good. Dunno how well it holds up today though.

The sad thing is the people think the characters acted like that in the game now. I want to tear my hair out every time I heard Cloud was emo. He is seriously not.
man, the ending of crisis core was saaaaaaad.
One of my favorite moments of the game is one I rarely see mentioned; the night you go on the date with Aerith and for a short while everyone in the party is all together in the Ghost Square Inn at the Gold Saucer. It's right before you go to the Temple of the Ancients and it has this great feeling; like the characters know that this could be the last night things are how they are and for one small piece of time, they spend the evening together. For most of the game before this you only see your party, so to see them all together before things change completely is really great.
Aeris is only one of the possible candidates. It changes based on your decisions in game up to that point. I prefer to date Barret.
I know, I just like to pretend Aerith's date is the canon one since the emotional impact really isn't there during the other dates. The Barret date is pretty sexy, though.
I really hope they get around to a Before Crisis remake one of these days. Was always kind of curious about it.
Always thought the Advent Children logo was pretty brilliant.completion of FF7

happy birthday FF7!
Yeah, that huge serpent dead. What a moment.
Actually, the caves you go through straight after? Best place in the game for grinding the limit breaks. Had every then-available character's break (bar level 4, obviously) before even reaching Junon. Doesn't even take too long, relatively speaking.
Of course, doing that also robbed myself of the slow-burn build of getting gradually more powerful limit breaks, but it was my sixth time attempting to beat the game. I'd earnt the right to powerlevel a little.
Ehh every playthrough I make Cloud date Tifa. I prefer her character by a wide margin.
What's everyone's go-to party? I always rolled with Cloud/Barret/Cid.
Rolled with Cloud/Barret/Cid for my first playthrough but used Cloud/Yuffie/Barret for every other playthrough. What's everyone's go-to party? I always rolled with Cloud/Barret/Cid.
Cloud/Tifa/Cid, then I swap in Yuffie for the end-game cause the girl's a BEAST.What's everyone's go-to party? I always rolled with Cloud/Barret/Cid.
This is the one FF of that era that doesn't stand out to me. Also the only one I've never replayed. Just..don't like it much. I think it was having come off of things like Lufia(2 more than 1 for me), FF5/6, and Chrono Trigger that made it feel just like another entry in a long list of triple AAA games rather than something momentous like for those who'd never even played an RPG. It most definitely has memorable moments, but I still get surprised by how many people on gaf scream "greatest game of all time!" and "remake please!" for this game.
Also honestly shocked (well, interested) by how many people were "surprised" at getting out of Midgar and "finding a whole world". For people who've never played an RPG I guess that makes total sense, but for those who had..really? You didn't expect an overworld with airship travel for an FF game by that point in time? Though I wonder how long it took the average player back then to get through Midgar. I don't remember it being very long at all so if that's really all the game was it wouldn't quite be an RPG haha.
We'll never know for certain if FFXIII Agito didn't start out as a PSP port for Before Crisis... given some similarities, School, Gangs, etc...
