I still don't get the rage. we have 38 out of the box. So there is twelve DLC just because they appear to be done doesn't mean the DLC price wasn't budgeted in from the beginning. How little work do you guys think go into these characters?

I'm not mad at all. Will buy them all.

Full disclosure: I used like $30 of Amazon discount codes towards my copy of the SE.

So as long as the total DLC cost for the characters isn't more than $30, I have to admit I'm not hurting on this one.

That said, just bring it on already. Gimme Dat Unlock codes, whatever, blah blah.

I'm going to get hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of play out of this game.

I am glad I decided to get the game at the end of the year, when hopefully the 12 DLC (cough unlock) characters will be bunched together for a special price, and I will also pick up the game used for dirt cheap.

Do people think that they're hurting our feelings when they say stuff like this?

Damn it, Capcom.

If it was Cody & Guy, I wouldn't be surprised since they appeared in a trailer ages ago, but when it's a character like Elena it becomes pretty evident that they just decided they wanted more money for their game.

For all the complaining people did about the prices of Blazblue CS characters, the only things related to them that was present on the disc were their theme songs (as far as I know).

If Capcom charge anywhere over £4 for these characters, I'm not biting.

Perhaps I'll even buy the game used just to give these kind of practices two fingers. Of course, by the time I get around to buying this game used, there will probably be 3 other with some pointless prefix.

Content already on disc where we pay for keys to unlock them is pretty shady. I hate the practice.

I see zero difference if they were meant to be DLC from the beginning. If that was always the plan the games budget reflected that and we probably wouldn't have had 50 characters total otherwise.

Well said. The other thing is that they probably won't have time to work on these characters once SFxT is released, especially if those Darkstalkers rumors are true.

For those using the greed argument, keep in mind that animating, balancing, voicework, etc. for 12 more characters also costs money.

Are people mad that the $$ that were budgeted for DLC were spent alongside the development of the game (rather than after its completion) to get the content out in its early lifespan?

That's ultimately why not a single fuck is given by me with this.

The only time, like I mentioned, that I hate Capcom DLC practices is when they pulled the MvC3 to UMvC3 change within 6 months so we beta test MvC3. That shit won't fly with me again. If they do that again with any fighter I get hyped for, I'll have to stop buying them at launch plain and simple.

Give each iteration of the game a year to play out before going for the next one imo.

No matter what you are always going to just pay for a key, patches would have the characters in them. You never straight up dl a character when you buy them.

In all honesty, I'm less pissed about having to pay more for characters than I am at the blatant disregard Capcom have for their fans.

At least try and hide these things. Even if the characters are done pre-release, just patch them in as you release them.

Yes, patches cost money, but stomp over your fans for too long and they will go elsewhere. They've already killed the fighting game scene once with their milking. I don't want to see it happen again.

Certainly not incomplete but are those really all of her specials (read: not supers) plus this may just be me but she doesn't really look "finalized". Just pointing out observations/looking for clarification, not denying, or being a defence force or anything.

16 of those characters are from SSFIV though. They basically made 22 new character models, which still isn't too bad. But it's the principle, remember when Ono used the chess analogy that all players should have all the same chess pieces (ie same set of characters), and non of this DLC bullshit (which should be set aside for alts instead of actual characters). Having the DLC characters end up being paid unlocks is just shitting on the consumers.

It's really true. There's more "from the ground up" characters for a SF in this game than in SFIV. Whatever we pay for DLC in this game, it'll be less than what we paid for SFIV + SSFIV + Arcade edition + all those costumes. And we end up with more characters, better out-the-box online features, co-op online and offline play, and that controvertial, but very interesting gem system, that'll let us mod our characters whenever we want to, rather than having to wait for a patch to give us faster walk speeds or more HP.

The only thing I'm annoyed with, is that I'll have to wait to play Elena ;) But it's not like I won't have an army of characters to learn and adjust to while waiting. (Ok, I wish I could fight to a "Beats in my head" remix too, but yeah...)

She looks pretty solid, and I love that Brave Dance locks enemies into the full animation. Looking forward to getting to play her, and hope it's sooner rather than later. (Never thought I'd see Elena and Dhalsim on the same team in a game ever, lol... it's kinda surreal...)

Trying to explain game development is basically futile, LOL.

Anyone who tries will get called "defense force". In point of fact, no, I don't think anyone "likes" waiting longer to play desirable characters. That doesn't mean some people can't understand the situation.

Capcom can't be surprised at this point (nor should anyone else really). New fighter comes out, people hack it and find everything on the disc instantly. If Capcom is mad about it they only have themselves to blame really.

Having said all that it still sucks big time to have to pay more money on top of the $60 base cost for 12 extra already completed characters (14 if you're on 360).

Well, it's a little tough to say if they're already completed. Content and moveset wise, they might be finished and on the disc but still balancing and tweaking them over the next month or so when they're released. On a plus side as well, your saving hard drive space too. I'm against on-disc DLC, if this the case, then its somewhat understandable.

It's far cheaper and more convenient to have 12-14 characters already on disc. Keeping patch sizes small is actually something most people would prefer. Also having them on disc means more people will be able to see the content without actually having to buy it.

Personally I hope this means we can use our DLC against people who don't own it.

DLC characters are the future of fighting games. In smaller studious like Reverge(skullgilrls) game will launch with 8 characters and grow based on sales with bug budget titles they will be made along side the rest held for ransom at a later date. That's just something everyone has to get used to at this point. DLC characters are going nowhere.

I'm curious about the prices, and release timeframe more than anything. Also really hope they got a season pass going on.

Please, please don't try to defend this shit.

I'm in no way defending it. It is a stupid practice, because I like when I buy my DLC to know that the company is working on it after release. That way I know my money is rewarding hard work that happened after the original 60 dollar product was wrapped up.

However, I'm also not going to write this game off or the company over it. I like fighting games, I like Capcom fighting games, and I want to keep getting more in the future so I can keep enjoying my favorite genre within my hobby.

I get where they are coming from with what people have posted above where it just makes more sense for them $ wise to put them in on disc already to save cash through PSN/XBL server downloads. I'm sure Capcom isn't going to go bankrupt if they did pay for those charges and just patched them in later on or whatever, but at the end of the day they are business so saving money here and there is something they will do.

As a consumer of theirs the only time I've felt burned by them was MvC3 to UMvC3. Otherwise they treat me and my wallet fine imo.

LOL at defense force who like to wait months for characters who are already on the disk

Who said people like waiting?

The "defense force" thing is cute, but doesn't change the fact that they pay staff to make these DLC characters specifically to sell. Period. If they didn't plan for that revenue stream, they wouldn't have spent the time and money making these. We'd just have what's in the core product. That is reality. I know you people like to scream that you're getting ripped off, but have some common sense and think about how stuff works in real-life. This is how games are budgeted and made now, like it or not. They're not gonna give everything they created to you for free. (nor are you entitled to it) Heck, I'd love to have all 50 now for $60, but that's not how the product was developed.

And guess what, if they weren't on the disc, they'd be sitting on Capcom's computers. So what difference does it effectively make? None. We gotta pay for them either way.

The question people should be asking is how much will they cost and what sort of value is the core product and DLC for the money. Not just knee-jerk crying foul without applying some common sense.

Again for the millionth time, they made these to sell as DLC. Get it?

It's not a defense force. It's the reality of game development.

Putting them on disc isn't dumb for any reason other than it enables what's just happened (Elena leak) to occur.

I don't think that's true, I read something not too long ago regarding this type of dlc and even though SFxT has hooksin place for later dlc they still need to have the character data on the disc to add new characters. I will try and find the article.

Thank you for putting it better than I possibly could.

Maybe now, that we know the 12 PSVita characters ARE 100% ON THE DISC, Crapcom rethink the cost of them....

I love Capcom but....that's disrespect!

Paying $60 for the game isn't enough? They're not giving ANYTHING away for free.

Bad choice of words there. I meant to change that to
They're not gonna give everything they created to you for the $60 retail price.

I'm gonna leave this thread, because it's gonna make me go insane wanting to respond to every nonsensical post.

Capcom are a business. They need money. If releasing DLC like this helps them stay in business and make more games, then that is fine with me. Some people might have a sense of entitlement, but I have seen so many game companies I loved over the years go out of business that I understand this approach.

Being on the disc as much as they can just makes the most sense.

What I don't really get is the whole 'secret characters/reveals' type thing. To me the only people who will view/care about these videos/reveals, are people who will be getting the game anyway. I don't really see how it builds any extra hype or interest, just encourages 'ZOMG elena is on the disc' types of things like this.

That's also a bad choice of words, bro.

I get what you are saying though.

These 12 weren't in the base budget so they had to be budgeted out as DLC?

I'm no expert in game development so I'll have to take your word for that...

Meh, like I said earlier, It sucks and if it bothers you that much then don't buy em or the game.

Doesn't bother me as I was gonna buy the DLC anyway....I just hope it's sooner than later.

Here is an old quote from Ono

GameSpy: But given that it will be on consoles in a big way, can we expect much in the way of post-release content? Like characters, stages, musical arrangements?
Yoshinori Ono: Going back to the chess analogy, characters [in fighting games] are like rules, and you have to master the rules to enjoy them too. So while we are working on downloadable content, characters will not be downloadable. We don't necessarily want to increase the complexity of the rules. And also, I think it's a little bit unfair that those guys with a bit more money will have more characters. But yes, we are working on some downloadable content.

So those characters will be free DLC right, Ono wouldn't lie ang go back on his own words :(

*blanka troll face*

Ok, I think I found it. Although it kind of negates my argument since they're talking about uMvC3, but anyway I'm sure it's why they need to have character data on the disc.

Could you please put Bad Box Art Mega Man in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 too? — ACBreaker

Rey Jimenez: Interesting, but unless the team planned for him to be in UMvC3 as a DLC character, it would be very hard to do. It's near impossible post release to add content to a title that wasn't planned for before the title was released.

you guys shouldn't bother arguing. We had to deal with this when people found out that partial assets of Shuma and Jill existed on disc for vanilla MvC3 and people refuse to listen to any sort of reason. People don't like to realize that the existence of on disc DLC is no different from day 1 DLC, while it may be a shady business practice, people should angry that day 1 DLC exists, rather in what form it exists in. Even then, DLC has a different budget and timeline from the main game that goes gold well before DLC is finished.
