Fortunately all Japanese games are so wildly similar or otherwise this concept would appear ridiculous. I find the West's output is equally homogeneous, so it makes what would appear to be generalizations easier to state without looking like a total douche.

I agree with the sentiment (that Japanese games made in the past 10 years, at least generally with many exceptions of course, suck ass), but the tact is quite terrible and lacking. It's one thing to be on a videogame forum, but it's another to talk to another human being who is being genuinely nice to you.

Terrible, terrible stuff. Back to what I said on the first page: the developer and game journalism communities are enablers of such undeserved ego. Craftsmanship is falls to the way side.
Anyway props to the juniors tearing up the thread. If you can get away with it, you'll be productive members of the NeoGAF battlefield.

I like supporting developers. thats why I only buy games new. To support the people who made the game.
And frankly, I don't wanna support that arrogant bafoon.
I hope I don't get to any battlefield. I'm here to learn more from you guys. I'm only 21 years old and many games that inspired me were played because of this forum. And I think the best way to be a good developer is to listen to what the players like best.
But I don't want to get off-topic here. What I wanted to say is already here and anything else would be made up. Thanks!

FEZ is better than most modern Japanese games. Also, he's an excellent designer. Entirely imo though. Yes, I played FEZ with the guy at IndieCade for awhile.

Notch is a nice guy by all accounts, though if he suddenly turned out to be a prima donna I wouldn't be surprised. Dudes were kissing at his feet at GDC the year before Minecraft "officially" released. That shit bugs the hell out of me. You know what? Maybe there is just something ugly about GDC.
What's so good about it? The actual platforming looks trite and I wonder if the main mechanic will be done better than echochrome in terms of puzzles (is this a puzzle game?). I admit footage I've seen and trailers could have just sucked. Dude released a lot of dull trailers. Are the graphics/music the best part of this game?
That was a pretty mean spirited thing for him to say. But to be fair, unlike Super Mario Galaxy 2, Valkyria Chronicles, Skyward Sword, and all those other garbage japanese games, I'm sure Fez will be a masterpiece. I'm really looking forward to checking out that innovative gameplay mechanic that they totally didn't lift from Crush. I mean, it has cute retro graphics. It HAS to be good.

I'll admit that the only Japanese game I bought for my PS3 was MGS4 (and the game was an awful sequel), and that's it. Now I am looking forward to The Last Guardian and Versus XIII. Other than that, all my PS3 game purchases are from western developers. What does that tell me? Well, I guess you can say there hasn't been anything developed by Japanese developers that's interested me.
Now last generation the majority of my PS2 games were from Japanese developers: MGS2/3, ICO, Shadow of the Collosus, Shadow Hearts 2 to name a few.
When I owned a Wii, the majority of games I owned were all Nintendo.

This. I acknowledged that I have been following the game. This doesn't make Fez suddenly a bad game. It only makes it a game I wont buy, in place of it Ill play one of the dozens of titles I already own that are in my backlog.

SE had one bad game this generation and that was FFXIV, all the other games they had were rated in the 80s on metacritic (i know that's not indicating anything, but they also sold well which adds to the argument). saying SE games suck this gen is very very subjective
