Looking great.
Mako and Korra getting their ass kicked by none benders (probably normal mooks) make the whole thing much more interesting than it already was.

Nice.
I like it when non-benders kickass.
It reminds me of Jet in ep 10. before that ep it seems that only benders could do anything serious (Sokka was still comic relief more than fighter). Jet even though he had a skewed morality was shown to be a capable non-bender.

Also,
the one fighting Korra looked like a woman...

I'm not in the OT much, so I saw a Korra thread and was all like "hey I should catch up on that and see what folks are saying." Yeah, 37 pages in less then a month, that's just crazy talk, I'm impressed by KorraGAFs dedication. I didn't even realize it was out yet. Very much adding a sub for this thread though and looking forward to the series. We don't have cable, so I'll just have to figure out the best way to purchase / watch them.

So the first episode is out on Amazon and iTunes? I'll have to watch tonight and hopefully see about getting my wife hooked as well. She never tried Avatar: TLA, but I think that she'd have loved it, so hopefully she'll be down for starting with Korra.

I think I found out what the specialized bending for air benders, sound! Or maybe it's stupid, but if you can come up with a better one, by all means.

Could you film an action scene in a more dull way? I think it's impossible.
Also the acting is amazingly bad, it's like a grade school play, goddamnit.

The saddest part is that Katara vs. Pakku was the best fight scene in Book 1. There is even something lifted directly from that fight here, only it has absolutely no purpose in the movie.

In the cartoon Katara freezes her feet in place because she needs more leverage to block Pakku's larger attacks. In the deleted scene, she makes her feet cold to lift an average sized ball of water and make it slowly shuffle forward. Why include such a small part of the fight if you don't even know why it happened?

Seriously, and again, the camera work is abysmal.
I'm not even a cinema savvy enough, to spot every directing flaw while i watch a movie, but with this, is impossible not to.
Like, after they free the Earth benders in the village, there's an entire dialogue of shot/reverse-shot with super tight close ups, and at the end of said dialogue, you hear and (barely) see the earth people celebrating (in the background), while the camera stays on Aang's face the whole time; it should've had a larger shot to close the scene, showing the people celebrating, no it stays on the kid's face and then cut to whatever else.

And this kind of crap goes on throughout the whole movie.

I know it's a pipe dream, but I want an uncut series in the Avatar universe. Cursing, blood and shit, seeing actual injuries and shit. It all seems so tame. Awesome, yet tame.

Avatar of Ice and Fire? I may have to pass on that. I like the fact that Avatar can be a mature show without having to be an adult show if you know what I mean.

I agree. One of the things I really enjoyed about Avatar is when the show communicates things clearly enough for adults, but with enough subtlety that the youngest viewers won't be scared. A good example of that is the episode when they first visit the Southern Air Temple and Aang finds Gyatso's body and how that is handled. I like Avatar the way that it is; accessible on multiple levels with different audiences, and I hope that Korra achieves the same, er, balance.

Were people comparing Mako to Zuko?

The former is nowhere near as emo and whiny as Zuko was (initially...okay for most of the series). He's just motivated and feels more real to be honest.

But it's only been one episode with him so we'll see. But I find him less annoying for the intro.

Avatar of Ice and Fire would be so awesome.

Mako does not feel real at all. He feels like the generic Anti-Hero with a dark past! *spooky fingers*

Zuko had emotion, which was welcome in this type of story.

It's only been 2 episodes (and he's only been in one), so I don't see how people are saying how bad or good Mako's character is yet.

However, he is a dreamboat.

Eh, I'm rewatching the series with my wife (her first time) and I gotta say... Zuko is no better in those first two episodes. Really not until "the storm" is he interesting, and even then, daddy issues are about the least interesting inner conflict you can give a character in pop culture.
Zuko eventually rises above his basic character due to good writing, but it takes time unless we're being apologists.

In a cartoon of this nature, giving a BigBad deep emotional issues that actually help shape his character from episode to episode is pretty atypical. Daddy issues are pretty much the least creative way to do this, but at least he's not a brooding anti-hero who's drive to accomplish his quest makes him emotionally cut off from those around him. That is until the pretty girl comes along and opens his heart. *cue music*

lol
Just saying, maybe when we get to know mako and kumar or whatever their names are, we'll find they have interesting reasons that shaped who they are.

I doubt it, but I was wondering as well what they are using to create electricity.

Azula is being kept alive by spirit benders. She is kept in a prison that uses her as some sort of sick "battery" to power the city. Korra finds her and is like, "who did this to you!?" ancient Azula is gibbering with madness but manages a few moments of clarity to say... "Kill me... KILL ME!"

Korra puts her out of her misery and searches to uncover the dark secrets of Avatar Aang, Zuko and Toph.

:p

NO!

My irrational hatred for Mako is based on the fact that he's a Zuko replacement. If he gains his own character traits that separate him and make him interesting then I may come to enjoy his character!!!

*claws eyes out*

That's better, irrational hatred in tact!

Mako is so dreamy.

Haters just jelly they aren't as DEEP.
