Looking forward to the weekend. Would be interesting to see Sergio do well in the wet again. What are the odds of NK getting into an incident with a front runner again? 60%? Romain better finish the race this time too, he's done too well in qualy to keep DNF-ing.

Damn, dry qualifying, wet race? Might we see ferrari taking a punt with a wet setup and not running in q3 (if they make it that far) so they can start on inters?

Forecast I'm looking at says it will stop raining by midday on Sunday. It is usually pretty cold in China so the track won't dry quickly, though the race doesn't start until 3pm local time so we could have a dry race from the start.

FIA confirms Bahrain GP will go ahead as planned.
http://twitter.com/#!/5LiveF1/status/190577254546411523
The FIA has said "Based on the current information the FIA has at this stage, it is satisfied that all the proper security measures are in place for the running of a Formula One World Championship event in Bahrain.

Press release in full:
http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/pressreleases/f1releases/2012/Pages/f1-bahrain.aspx
The FIA is the governing body of motor sport and therefore of Formula One. As such, it sets the season’s calendars following the proposal of the Commercial Rights Holder (CRH) in accordance with the local national authorities in all matters relating to safety.

Within that context, the FIA ensures that any event forming part of an FIA World Championship is organised in compliance with the FIA Statutes and the relevant Sporting and Technical Regulations and that the safety of the public, officials, drivers and teams is secured at all times during an event.

The FIA must make rational decisions based on the information provided to us by the Bahraini authorities and by the Commercial Rights Holder. In addition we have endeavoured to assess the ongoing situation in Bahrain.

President Jean Todt led a fact-finding mission to the Kingdom in November 2011, meeting a large number of decision-makers and opinion formers, including elected Shia members of parliament, the president of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, ambassadors from the European Union countries, the Crown Prince, the Interior Minister and many members of the business community.

All expressed their wish for the Grand Prix to go ahead in 2012, and since then, the FIA has kept in close touch with all these stakeholders. Away from the public eye, the FIA has received regular security briefings from the most senior diplomatic officials based in the Kingdom as well as from other independent experts.

The 2012 calendar, as presented by the CRH, was ratified by the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in September 2011. Since then no request from the F1 Commission or the CRH has been made to the WMSC to either postpone or cancel the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Based on the current information the FIA has at this stage, it is satisfied that all the proper security measures are in place for the running of a Formula One World Championship event in Bahrain.

Therefore, the FIA confirms that the 2012 Gulf Air F1 Grand Prix of Bahrain will go ahead as scheduled.

Circuit of the Americas just updated their website with seating location info. Tickets aren't on sale yet, but at least the locations of the grandstands are known now. Only 4 to choose from, but I'm betting there will be temporary seating and grass seating locations too. From the website though it looks like either T1 or T15 Corner is where I'll be sitting.

Sorry to sound like a idiot. But what is this "rush" everyone is talking about?

Also, can't wait for china this weekend!!! Really want to see the ferraris, ummm Ferrari, get a good result. The way I see it (and I dont know much) but if Ferrari can keep this close and come out with a working car, they can make a run of it this year. I really want to see Alonso geta tittle with Ferrari.

If its a wet start then all the cars can start on inters or wets anyway, if its a safety car start due to being too wet for a grid start then the all must start on full wets.

If ferrari gamble on a wet race and the track is dry the tyres would be dead in a couple of laps forcing them to do another stop and will leave them last buy about a minute or so.

Safety car starts are amazingly retarded.

Watching practice now, glad F1 is back, I have been trying to really dive head first into this season. Couple of questions. During the practice sessions, what are the teams looking to do here? Are they learning the track? Dialing in their cars? All of the above? Do they run full race pace during practice? Or do they have a specific routine where they will show 1 or 2 flying laps but keep it toned down and save it for when it matters?

Sorry for the long list of questions.... But I have no one else to ask lol

Practice is about getting dialed in, making sure the car is working as it should and tweaking the set-up, pace wise pace is between qual and race, the cars are actually at their slowest during the race around 5 or 6 seconds a lap sower then their qual pace.

The drivers would have spent a lot of time in the simulator to learn the track at different conditions and different set ups. Track time really helps the driver understand how the car acts in real life, because you can't beat real life experience.

As for the teams, they're working on the set up all the time, looking for the perfect set up for the race or qualifying. Depending on what the team opt for.

Flying laps would be very common for FP3, right before qualifying, that's why times during FP1 and 2 are irrelevant as some teams would have a high fuel load to get in a lot of laps for practice sake.

man mclaren are killing it, its nice to see rbr are pretty close in the second fp.
Vettel looking better in the original spec'd car. Bit of a dilemma for RBR though.
What version of car do they develop going forward.
