I would also think that they must think pretty highly of the game at this point if they are willing to show that much of it now. I mean I don't know what GTTV's ratings are like, but i'm sure Gametrailers the site gets enough hits to justify this as a big reveal for them.

Though IGN won't be too far behind them.

I think the reason why the announcement is so late into development is because they want to show near final character list at the same time. let's say we have 24 character (likely more, but just for example). rather than reveal 12 character at game announcement and reveal the rest of character gradually up to release date, they choose to show almost all character like 20 character during 1st announcement and then just reveal one or two later for surprises later on.
