The Wii U Speculation Thread V: The Final Frontier

Getting AC3 on 360 just because I got all the games for that system.

If I want a better looking version, I'll wait for the PC port to get cheaper.

this is why Nintendo betting on CORE support will not work even someone who posts here will not support the WiiU version

sad for Nintendo... you should have made the Wii HD from the start

But then you'll miss the awesome Connor NFC tagged figurine with which you'll be able to activate an assassin costume added to you, augmented reality style, in Just Dance 4 ><

Apparently we don't have Xenoblade NPD's data because a rules says shop exclusives are excluded.

That's right. I had forgotten about that rule.
Caused a big controversy with the last Eagles Album.

So, basically, Nintendo should just give up and not even bother?

Future games are going to have Wii U in the equation, but it's the third (fifth) game in a series that I am already accustomed to only using one controller to play, one profile for the whole series, and all my friends who enjoy the multiplayer only have 360s.

So...what's really the argument for getting the Wii U version for someone like me?

AC3 isn't going to be what makes me get a Wii U. A fun game that's made for the Wii U is going to be what makes me get a Wii U.

Although I own all AC games on the PS3, I'm gonna get this on Wii U just to build up the library. Also if they do the minimal having the Map on the uPad as opposed to constantly pausing, it would make the game Miles better imo, I hated the loading to look at the maps, and I was a constant map checker in the series.

And let's say you're playing the Connor adventures through a classical third-person scope on your Xbox 360, while you could have fun with this usual approach, completed by a bird eye view granting you small strategic experiences while you're wild hunting in The Frontier, trying to survive to the Battles of Saratoga, evading opponents in the Boston streets. And it would be just one of the additional feature specific to the Wii U, think of all the Animus management on the padlet, the handy map on it considering the size of AC3 landmass, all those functions wouldn't ignite your curiosity ?

Personally I'd get AC3 on the Wii U just because the loading should be a hell of a lot better.
:p
I'll get AC3 on Wii U cause I'll finally own a console that has an AC game on it.

Being poor sucks, I want a 360 but money is not something I have a lot of.
And I don't want a Kinect, or a bundle with games I'm not interested in.

No, not really.

My ability to play multiplayer with the people I usually do is going to trump the rest of that.

Also I've gotten all of the achievements in every AC game so far and I have yet to see if the Wii U even has an achievement system.

Lots of gimmicks, none of which integral to the core game design, but instead secondary additions to accommodate the unique features of the Wii U. Cool and fun? Maybe, sure, but hardly a selling point for anybody who's already satisfied with the core experience on a separate platform.

Most people will feel this way and Nintendo is in for a rude awakening if they believe otherwise. Most people, myself included, will be looking for wholly unique experiences on the Wii U, versus ports with extra gimmicks.

The industry would collapse if that happens, remember third party dont sell where Nintendo sells.
Judging by the numbers, the industry's on its way anyway. /hyperbole

But seriously, hot damn at those pitiful numbers across the board. Talk about a lack of enthusiasm!

I'm with you there
And feel its going to be Nintendo's biggest hurdle in the first year or two.

To me, these type of games.. aren't system sellers or movers for Nintendo. More like system equalizers. Its one less reason for people NOT to get the system. Like this helps their overall image.

Unfortunately, that's likely going to be the case given Nintendo's history with gimmicks. On the bright side, the Wii U still has its streaming ability which is something most third-parties should be able to easily implement. Although, even that cool feature may not be enough to convince owners of 360 and PS3s to support the Wii U version. Then there's the Xbox 3 and PS4, which will likely feature better graphics to entice consumers with anyway.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

I think that is a good way of putting it.

Unfortunately, that's likely going to be the case. We may have to wait until next year to start seeing some third-parties put in more effort into Wii U ports, but even then, it's still going to be an issue. The NFC stuff is cool, but still gimmicky selling point. I'm not gonna pay extra for figurines just to get them to have them offer some throwaway unlockable content. On the bright side, the Wii U still has its streaming ability which is something most third-parties should be able to easily implement.

Most of the unique experiences will come from Nintendo, as always.
And you can be sure they're preparing them.
Though, I wouldn't completely count out third parties at launch.

The ports are there for the traditional gamers.

Not having Achievements/Trophies might be a plus for me :p

I hated them in Smash Bros. too, and they weren't even part of a gamer profile system

If they were that important as a player goal list, they could be incorporated within the game itself. For example, all the Dead Rising achievements still appeared in the Wii version. The real goal should be to get the full, original game. :)

That's a good question. Will Nintendo follow Microsoft and Sony and implement achievements?

The 3DS KIND OF has them, but only for the Mii Plaza.

I understand for the achievement system concern :)

The bird eye view won't be gimmicky, the rest could be considered as that yes, a matter of taste i guess, but you're right about the point that innovative gameplays allowed by the Wii U must be perceived (and therefore cleverly promoted/explained) as really original and fun additions to this core experience. Basically, a gamer comparing AC3 versions on Xbox360 and Wii U must say "hey, not only it's prettier, but all the wild hunting aspect of the title looks FAR more entertaining thanks to the Wii U specificities than on Xbox !".

I can't obviously talk for every third-parties, but from what i know of two of them, i was pleasantly surprised as said in thread 2, by their implication, their involvement, their initiative, to find & develop ambitious use of the asymmetrical setting of the system, rather than hastily put some lazy functions on the padlet, as i initially expected.

"WiiU Medals"

Achievements/trophies does add to the experience for many players (me included), so i think that Nintendo will include something like this.

this kinda scares me. I know it's an obvious thing and they will probably will implement some kind but...

...this is nintendo.

Your statement really only applies to core gamers, and even then, there are a lot of core gamers who use their 360 for a netflix box, yet Wii U is going to be far better for netflix, since you don't need to pay extra for xbox live gold, and you can use the tablet interface.

The average customer and even the average gamer will buy Wii U because it's a new console that offers them a new experience. Seriously 360 came out in 2005 and while probably 90% of those first gen boxes caught fire, people who bought the box at that point do think it's time to buy another.

Is this about the Next Tales Of tease?

I just can't imagine a another sequel to Symphonia. Ratatosk is bad enough as it is.

A Wii U game? Maybe. But not a sequel to Symphonia.
