You see this? You give this to your friend, you say "Fuck you, this is all you get."

Look at me! I got all this shit here, I'm in control motherfucker!

AVGN quote sums up this issue nicely.

I have no problem using the remote and if I had a choice, I'd play with the remote over the WiiPad. I don't care about any of this at all. As long as they pack in a remote and nunchuck in the package, I'm all good. They should also have a stand for the pad to sit on so that it's easy to use both when needed.

Sad, but I get the hunch that you're right. Minimal effort from third parties? Whodathunk it? And then they wonder why they have a shit reputation, eh?

Thankfully, we can count on Nintendo to lead by example. I think more than anything, I want to be able to play my VC games on the controller. If they can enable this, I'll be quite satisfied. This gonna be one of the topics that'll have me on-edge waiting for news on at E3.
That'd kind of be the minimal effort option for ports I think. Don't do much with the controller other than easy/obvious stuff like a map/stats screen, put in controller only mode with the normal UI from the other consoles.

I hate to be that guy but can someone summarize the news we had in the past 12 hours?

I'm pretty busy the moment so it's hard to keep up.

Killer Freaks has online. Two new games were recently announced for the Wii U (though that may not be in the last 12 hours), Avengers:Battle for the Earth and Cloudberry Kingdom.

Rumors: A survey asked for intent to buy at $300 for the Wii U - same site that leaked Goldeneye Wii, so some people are guessing $300 price. A new patent was released today detailing the golf idea shown in the Wii U trailer (seeing lie, etc.).

I don't think there was anything else. Please correct me if I missed something.

Thanks for the quick recap. Sounds good to me. If the Wii U is at $300 then I will jump for joy.

Oh hey, looky here.

This comes from a GlobalTestMarket survey, apparently. (It leaked Goldeneye in 2010).

Not the first to notice, but TWO padlets at the same time!

Of course, there are also two wii U consoles out of frame

...Or not? Second look not so clear...

The one on the right has rounded edges, the one on the left sharp edges!!!!

But it appears to have a backing!!!!

Looks like a Remote to me.

You're welcome. I read so many posts today that it all got jumbled in my mind, so hopefully I got everything, haha.

Don't believe the $300 too much, I don't want to be the reason of disappointment. :)

Only other thing I see in my notes is that bit about "Tales of" games being considered for the Wii U.

Seeing all that with the on board CPU has me worried about its costs. I was conting on it being less than $60 to produce so as to leave plenty of budget left over for the console's guts.

It having a CPU means nothing. All TVs and monitors have CPUs. It's just something that a screen needs in order to function.

Don't worry. I never put the blame on other people :p

This is what I want to see announced at E3 or soon after. Love the tales series after playing Vesperia.

The kiddy thing really started to pick up steam during the N64 generation. Sony had entered the field and became the market leader .

I believe to this day that the Wind Waker reveal is what ultimately doomed the GameCube/Nintendo as "kiddy". As you said, Nintendo was fighting that image with N64, and they launched a purple lunchbox console. But they still had Zelda, riding off universally loved OoT and that awesome Space World video, it was the franchise that could prove Nintendo wasn't just for the kids.

And then that fucking 'Toon Link winked at us. It was never the same.

I at first assumed that the baseball pic was supposed to be a pic of an actual baseball videogame with the stats for the batter shown on the DRC. But then I noticed that it was next to the Netflix app pic which made me think that that particular panel was made to show off the media capabilities of the system, so maybe that is supposed to be a pic of a live game on the TV and the supplemental info on the controller. Either way it's pretty cool.

It's true.

If only they released Twilight Princess first.

The Wii U can shake the trend of 'kiddy', but Nintendo will never shake the 'family friendly' image. Not necessarily because they cant, because the wont. And that's something folk need to keep in mind. Nintendo's 'all ages' marketing and image defines them. It has forever, and forever will. That is Nintendo.

I don't see this as a bad thing.

@the comic: Still uses the E3 2011 controller design, so probably fake.

Oh damn. I remember when that was announced. My friends pretty much wrote off the Cube at that point since Nintendo didn't seem all that intent on fighting off the "kiddie" comments. The chibi Link winking at folks didn't help at all.

Aw man, I was around on GameFAQs when that went down in '01. You think you know, but you HAVE NO IDEA

Toon%2BLink%2BWink.jpg

Holy shit

edit: And I don't like WW for a variety of reasons, but Toon Link was awesome. His expressions are just priceless.

The pictures are so badly put together... it almost feels like it's fake.

i feel that they look so bad.. they have to be real..

Like if you were trying to fool people, is this what you would have went with?

I say we all sign up for the site and see if we can get the survey!

I remember I was in high school, and I was at summer football practice, but all I could think about was getting home and checking Space World coverage. All I could think about was how that awesome Link vs Ganondorf sword fight from a year earlier would be fully fleshed out into a game.

And then I went to IGN, and there was a picture of toon Link, and I think the headline was something like "Take a deep breath and click."

I did end up really enjoying Wind Waker and can definitely appreciate the art style now, but back then it was so damaging.

Can't really do much about those people. I do agree, they will never be pleased.

btw I thought Link looked badass in TP :p

I'm not a big fan of Link's aesthetics but he looks fine in all of the games besides the CDi or whatever the fuck that shit was.

I hope they never make him edgy, that'd likely backfire for me and it'd seem forced.

This thread moves too fast. Where did we get confirmation of online in Killer Freaks? Not that its surprising, but confirmation is cool.

I don't think Nintendo would ever go for an edgy Link. If they wanted to make an edgy game with an edgy character, it would probably be an entirely different ip.

I agree that Twilight Princess Link looked badass. And actually, he looks badass in the Wii U Zelda demo. I'd be okay with a Zelda game where Link looks like that.

I wasn't a fan of Wind Waker. I played it a couple of times, but I could never actually beat it. Though, I really enjoyed sailing. Heh, heh.

Going purposefully "edgy" just makes me think Shadow the Hedgehog.

That did make for some hilarious screenshots though, I wouldn't mind something ridiculously over the top. Something Excite.

Just say no to "edgy" link. Almost as bad as Sonic in a low rider with a gat. Maybe worse.

Nintendo needs an edgy Link like they need to go iOS exclusive. In other words not at all.

Same. Wind Waker ended up being one of my favorite games of all time, but 9 year old me couldn't fathom why they'd drop the awesome Spaceworld 2000 artstyle. I remember picking up magazines and staring at those images for hours. I wasn't even a huge Zelda fan at the time, but for some reason, those screens just blew me away.

Nevertheless, the gaming press tore Nintendo's ass apart after that move, and haven't stopped since.

I don't like how everything is compressed. Makes it look fake.

Remember an old cartoon... it had an angry girl with braces and she kept saying "Thissh ish shtupid" to everything.

I really cant remember where this came from. Maybe it even wasnt a cartoon.

Anyway, this is stupid. (the situations, not the post. The post is great.)

A little interesting side thing to think about with all this discussion about Wii U having "inferior" graphics to MS/Sony's next systems. The cost goes up and the scale goes down.

Makes me glad to see them supporting smaller indie games and making comments specifically about budgets related to graphical output.

What do you guys think? is he HD generation a large reason the JRPG is dying?

I believe you are talking about braceface.

Sad to hear Nintendo phasing out Aqua Blue 3DS, it's still my favorite 3DS color!
