Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta and Information Thread [Open Beta Live Now]

You can block and dodge enemy attacks. The Just Guard passive skill more or less completely negates damage if you block just as an enemy attack hits you.

It's not that. It's not attacking where I'm looking. It's just attacking in a straight line even if I'm turning the camera.

Even if I press forward (unnecessary button press) to force the attack to go forward at my camera view when attacking, it's turn radius is somewhat slow.

Is it normal that it has been like this for the last 10 or so minutes?

Ugh, it's the same for shooting. wtf! Shoot where I'm aiming!

So a couple of questions that I haven't been able to figure out yet:
1) How do you actually activate a PSE Burst? I'm talking about that thing where the timer shows up on the screen and you get crazy drops for a while.
2) How do you set up rastas (MHF term for bots that are a copy of an actual player)? There's an option when you click on a player that says something like モノネト, but using that option just makes a weird circle appear around them and nothing seems to happen.

I'm not sure anyone really understands the PSE Burst system fully yet.

On that second question, every character has an option to register themselves as a partner character (at the purple terminal). In the campship, you can use the terminal in the middle along the window to bring in a partner character, which can be either the various NPCs in the game you meet or any registered data from your friends list.

You probably found the option that mimicks another character's actions. Useful if you want to set up synchronized dancing.
I'm not addicted to dancing in the lobby at all, what are you talking about

Okay I think I'm finally free and going to play for the 1st time since the Alpha. Has the english fan patch been finished yet or am I still SOL?!?!

Last word I heard was that they've made some headway into the new encryption method the game uses now but aren't quite ready to put a patch together yet. They seem to be putting more effort into translating more of the game this time too rather than the roughly 60% of system strings that were handled last time.

Man, the lag this morning is nuts! Lots of dead baddies still running around bonking me, and it's even more hilarious when I'm near other players. Can't be helped I guess, given that the servers are in Japan.

Starting to like those whip-like weapons on my hunter, especially for their throw. It's still a toss up between them and a sword through. Love the stuns on the sword.

Sadly, that's not the reason - we had similar level of lag here in Japan. 1+ min spikes etc. :/

BUT. After a few tries we were able to take down the free exploration volcano dragon with twentytwo and Netto-kun! What a ride, I haven't had that much fun in an online game since who knows when.

Guide on what to do after receiving a Team Invite from us by Blueblur1 added to the op. Almost everyone had problems with that, so be sure to read it!
Also, the current number of members is 36!

Finally got my mag to level 30!

Isn't it awesome to get the boss of the quest as an interrupt event. (We've got Dark Ragne before that)

MAG in action. That's what you get for feeding it Hunter weapons.
Edit:
Added the correction of the Cast race description by SuperAngelo64 to the op. Thanks!

I do enjoy the multiple-team feel of the game. Its fun to see small groups roaming the same area as you. I do hope they expand some of those maps to make them a bit more open.

Taking a while to get use to, plus the language barrier is still there but it is a great PSO game. Cannot wait to see more of the content and more of the little in-game details.

I think the update will go well into the 3 hours, :p.
I have a slow connection i guess, since it wouldn't even let me play with Gaikai.

Man, I don't even know how to chat or even equip a weapon.

Those screenshot guides aren't helping.

I found the bumped PS2 guides to be very helpful. The first hour or so can be quite confusing but you just have to test a little and not give up.

I'm about to head into caves for the 2nd time now (only the regular quest, can't free play it yet), anyone who wants to join is welcome. Making an open game in the next few minutes called NeoGAF.

Edit: Forgot to mention Ship2 Block 21

Okay cool, I got my mag quest.

I hate that there's a mag quest.

With great power, comes great MAGresponsibility.

You really should get one by default and only have to do the quest if you need a new one.

Also, how do you open the Free Roam Fields?

Yea, that's why I hate it. In PSO you had one from the start, and I'm pretty sure that's true for PS0 (though it's been a while since I played that).

Reminds me of those MMORPGs that wont let you have a proper class until you grind to level 10 or what have you. Though obviously not nearly as bad as that.

I am sure things could change. Maybe they think the MAG is like a right of passage kind of thing. Get people to play a good few levels and then give them new toys. :D

Boy, I sure am glad symbol chat is as robust as it is now.

Haha, yea.

So are mags just like PSO 1 mags? as in stat boosters and follow you like a pet? I hope so

Seems to be. You can feed your MAG the usual items and also feeding them equipment also gives them stats. The stats seem a bit more involved for PSO2, plus they are planning to make them more useful when you have trained them.

Finally played this today and I'm pretty blown away, I had ignored it up until now as my adoration of PSO has only led to disappointment since. I heard people saying 'oh wow this brings back the old PSO charm' about all of the follow-ups and you know what, none of them did.

This is the first PSO game since well, PSO - that actually captures what I loved about the series without forcing me to grit my teeth due to including a ton of crap that I didn't want. It has mags, it has loot drops, awesome ambient music and those loading screens you can wiggle something about in. Welcome back PSO, you were missed. Time for me to get my mag, please tell me it has all the cool ones PSOv2 had hidden away somewhere (burger, dreamcast etc).

So glad I spent the last 3 years struggling to learn Japanese now, I get a little giddy inside when I say 'よろしくね’ and someone says it back :D

Currently only 4 MAG's you can evolve into but I am sure they plan to have all the weird stuff down the line.

I finally started! Character name is same as here : Jubern

I only played 1-2 hours since I didn't have too much time but what I tried have me really hyped.
I'll ask to enter the team tomorrow if that's okay with you guys.

Is it 'safe' to use prize codes from pre open beta right now?

And, how can you register your character in visionphone so other party members can play with him?

Yup thats the error.
Restart and update(again) your TMP files should still be intact so itll only download what it needs.
If you keep getting the error do what it says and wait a while before attempting again, maybe the servers are getting overloaded

fWnN9.png

I've gotten this twice after very little progress. Unfortunately I don't know how to read the error to "do what it says". When I restart the download, it starts over from the beginning.
