such a large dichotomy of uncomfortable (and often times poorly drawn) fetishist renderings and really thoughtful and playful fan interpretations. nothing in between.

I wonder how many K-On fans wouldn't like those pictures because the girls look above the ages of nine. I'm going to guess all of them.

Also, I don't get why there's STILL so much awful Sonic fanart being made. You've got to assume kids and teenagers are making them. These people were born well after the Genesis and were probably toddlers with the Dreamcast came out. What good games has Sonic had since then? Sonic Rush, Sonic Generations... that's all. And so many duds in there.

Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations are both great games. But yeah, the fanart Sonic inspires is inexplicable.

You've got to remember that despite the mostly poor story focused entries into Sonic being critically panned there are many Kids and Teens that love those Sonic games, we do live in a world where they will defend the brokenness of Sonic 2006, a world where people do in fact find Shadow The Hedgehog cool with all his guns, unnecessary motorbike and "Damn" shenanigans.
I'd wager the people behind the "awesome" Sonic fanart would probably like games like SA2 over Colours because more side characters and "serious" plot.

I'll never forget that video where they announced episode 2 of Sonic 4 at comic-con and the crowd, filled with sonic fans presumably, absolutely flipped the FUCK out.

I never knew you could get that excited for a sonic game, not unless it was the 90s or something.

The better video was the one when people flipped the fuck out over Sonic Adventure 2 being ported to the PS3/360 for later this year, it's not a game worth losing your shit over and I say that as someone who put many hours into it back in the day.
Though for some reason that escapes me it's a really popular Sonic game, it's passable at best but whatever, if they want to go nuts then that's their choice.
Actually that might be the video you mean because the only flipping out over Episode 2 I remember was despair at the fact that it was actually continuing.

I have a confession to make. I, uh, I do find Shadow cool. Not because of his guns, and I admit that Shadow the Hedgehog was not the wisest purchase I ever made, and that I should be ashamed of how much fun I had playing that, but, I dunno, Shadow isn't so bad if he's dialed back all the way. I didn't mind him in Sonic Adventure 2, though I admit I was just a kid. The pokecapn version of him as Sean Connery is also very fun.

SA2 Shadow is okay, I went down the Dark Story the first time I played the game because I figured he looked cooler, though I did end up much preferring Sonic anyway, if anything he was a bit too bland in that game but not really offensive in any way.
Now as for his titular game, oh man now that's some hilariously bad stuff, admittedly Shadow almost becomes so bad he's good in that one, but not quite.
But my initial point is mainly because he really is like the most popular character behind Sonic these days I think and that just feels wrong.

Well, yeah, Vegeta should never be more popular than Goku, but I didn't mind Shadow when that was his role. Like, I liked him in Generations, as just somebody who showed up to challenge Sonic for a minute. That's how it should be for the next while, I think. Relegate Sonic's entire supporting cast to brief appearances and get back to Sonic and Tails vs Robotnik. Keep Amy if you HAVE to have a chick, and throw Knuckles back into the mix for the people who MUST play as him, but NO MORE THAN THAT. Cream, Rouge, Shadow, Silver, Blaze, Big, the robots, CHEESE, Espio, oh dear God why do I know so many Sonic characters' names? should all be left on the sidelines.
