I just wanted to explain who my top three were. There's plenty of other notable monkeys around, they just aren't as well documented as, say, penguins (obviously).

∀ Gundam has the best ending to any Gundm TV series. So good.

I was afraid that would be your answer. 00's soundtrack is full of cheap synth, not Kenji Kawai's best work. I can see why you like it, since it's similar to Wing except with a shoestring budget.
I can't really think of that many Gundam works that actually have a good soundtrack.

Time to finish Utena, over ten years after seeing the first episode. Nine episodes to watch! (watched 30 last night).
I tried to write something yesterday about why I like episode 7 so much, but I basically got stuck after "I wuv Juri" because I couldn't actually articulate why when she's possibly the most cliched character
in the show.. The duel is particularly marvellous (the final section where
is brilliant), but I can think of other episodes that are just as good. Might have to rethink that one.
The interview with Mamoru Hosoda in the DVD liner notes is fascinating in that the other episode directors basically tell him that he directed the episode completely differently from Ikuni's instructions for the show and it still turned out great.

Didn't like episode 30 that much, actually. The basketball match was a nice callback, but I'm so thoroughly spoilt for Utena by now that seeing her realise she's fallen for Akio wasn't particularly interesting.

the camera follows Utena's sword as it skewers Juri's rose and falls through the Juri/Shiori tableau at the same time, followed by the slow descent of Juri's completely intact rose

Gomu Gomu no youre confused? Are you sure you arent talking about Usopp? Now that is an terrible ability, annoying personality and awful character design. Luffy's pretty cool and I think he has one of the best outfits for our main shonen heroes.

Plot armor? You might be able to make a case for later when he has to work his ass off to not die, but there's really no need for plot armor at all in what you've seen.

Remember how I mentioned that the direction and pacing in this series were really improving ever since episode 30 or so? Well these two episodes are an unfortunate reminder of how the show used to be. I'll get into specifics by way of a more detailed post later but at a glance I'd say the biggest problem is how the passage of time is depicted which, incidentally, affects the pacing a great deal.

I'm thinking of the Krieg fight, where he was flattened countless times with an exploding spear, and wasn't affected at all.
Episode 8 was definitely in top three for me. Episode 8 is straight out filler but it has that certain charm that you gotta like it. After it the show went to directions that I really didn't care for. They still had some great moments but personally I liked the detective aspect of the show and it kinda stopped right after ep7.

As I had pondered before, the "nice" detective has
since the events of the last episode. I have to say that my wish was fulfilled in a pretty underwhelming manner. On one hand, yes, Maniwa is not the man that is present to pull back Keiichi any longer. The problem is, he didn't add anything onto that (besides a devious expression on his face). The man is given a new profile and it adds nothing. He doesn't add anything interesting in his new or perverse reactions from his former ways, instead we get an obsessed man. Additionally, the surreal phases we receive didn't give me any insight or meaningful symbolism. It wasn't the feeling of confusion as much as disconnection with a character, which is a first for me in the series. I can't read what's going on and I really didn't feel it was essential.
On the positive side, Kon's character designs make great work with Maniwa's
as usual. Maniwa's search for those
is placing a constricting hold on his own mind. This was definitely a weaker episode, but nothing to make me fear the quality of future ones.

I was thinking about soundtracks that are satisfying taken as a whole, not just soundtracks with a few good pieces in them.
Unicorn may well be getting there, I'll concede that.
So he feels like bananas.
It's not the most memorable OST ever, but I seem to recall enjoying it well enough at least.
This makes me wonder, which is/are the best OST(s) of this season? I'm not really watching a whole lot, so I'm sort of curious.

I can't really think of anything too memorable from this seasons selection of shows. Hyouka has been okay, I suppose, but technically that's just a holdover from Spring.
And he's British, too. They're supposed to be able to understand the finer details of humor, I was led to understand.

Whaaa? They're extremely sympathetic and likeable. If anything, the problem comes from the fact that the end game has to be the end game, so the main cast isn't allowed to reveal their hands until the time comes. It'd be nice if they could just move on though, since the type of comedy they do mostly doesn't rely on the status-quo.
I think we can all probably agree that Oda Nobuna no Yabou has the worst OST of the summer season, even if there's no clear best.
One would think that Rinne no Lagrange S2 would inherit the title by default due to its above-average OST in the first season, but I haven't heard a word of praise about this season's music, which must mean that it's either simply reusing old tracks or that the quality of the new tracks, like everything about S2, has unfortunately gone down.

This, inexplicably, is one of our most popular sitcoms at the moment. You tell me if we're able to understand fine humour.

Unicorn is quite good, though I have yet to listen to the OST by itself.
Even though it's a continuing show from the spring, Eureka Seven AO is my favorite OST out of what's airing now.

This episode was a series of scenes involving characters from the ensemble cast at various locations performing actions that all tie directly into the main narrative. This means that the episode did not have a 'beginning, middle and end' structure. It didn't feel like anything at all, really because, while the stories were obviously tied together by the story they weren't particularly interesting or satisfying on their own terms.
Each of these scenes involved a particular character, or characters, getting into some some situation and then resolving it. The problem is that all these 'mini-episodes' that went into this episode (The Wrath Fight, The Armstrong Fight, The Movement of Intelligence, Greed & Ed, Riza & Her Friend etc etc) is they were all over extremely quickly and they didn't build on each other because they rarely involved the same characters. Two to three minutes is rarely enough time to tell an interesting story or build repoire with characters or investigate a cool idea. It just ends up feeling like a bunch of truncated sequences strung together.
Strangely enough, if they'd been really short, montage style, scenes it would have worked quite well because they would have been over and done with. However, they're too long for that but too short to be satisfying, so they're just stuck in a weird middle ground where they're ineffective.
Watching characters 'get ready to do something' can, theoretically, be interesting, but I don't think they accomplished anything interesting here.
The Wrath fight, however, was pretty great. Lots of great editing, smooth animation, powerful shading and great camera work. Good stuff!

Cat ear girls hardly ever get much development. anime is racist against them

I loved the Wrath fight, it was a real stand out moment for me in FMA B.

Eureka Seven AO is the one Ive been listening to the most followed by the Gundam AGE v2. I like the music to Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere 2 when it plays, though I dont think theyve added more to what was introduced last season, but regardless its also a good OST this season, hope the composer does more anime, remember they did Medaka Box.
Accel World OST is also one I like too, lots of good songs. Terrible that Sword Art Online really has no standout musics. I feel like Im cheating if I say Hunter x Hunter 2011 and Phi Brain, since both havent introduced new musics, oh and Saint Seiya Omega...

This episode had a few of the problems that plagued last weeks episode, as well as a number wholly new issuers that are unique to it. As before, the show appears to be spinning it's wheels to some degree while everyone waits for the promised day to arrive. This leads to more scenes where people talk about the coming arrival of the promised day and what it will mean for the country, which is frankly irritating because I don't need to watch people discuss the matter, I'm already aware of the consequences of this event and I just want to see what happens next in the story.
Speaking of exposition, someone really went of the deep end with this episode. For whatever reason Miles feels the need to talk about Alphone's real body, as if we'd forgotten what had happened to him. There's actually quite a few sequences like that, where the characters tell each other the plot of the show so far but it's all completely pointless for the audience because we're already aware of the plot so. This kind of conversation is not uncommon during the course of the episode:
It's utterly pointless to sit through. I guess they felt like they really needed to stall the movement of the plot for another episode so this is the result - more talk about things we already know.
The director of this episode got very lazy with bothering to portray the flow of time, as well. Rather than work out some effective way to display, visually how the seasons have passed or how our heroes have aged he opted to just leave it like this:
Which isn't particularly convincing.

It's been a while, so I would have to watch it again, but IIRC they did wear him down quite a bit. He does have more endurance than most people because he's a rubber man, but he was still bleeding a ton and stuff. He also passed out almost instantly when the fight was over.
They're a group of asshole misfits, former/current killers, and just all around douchebags. Otae is a much more terrible person than anyone in Binbougami. As hilarious as they are, they're not good people.
