NHL 2011-2012 Offseason thread of Cash Rules Everything Around Me

Bruce also told me to go to hell when I suggested a Schneider/JVR trade last year and kept saying we were overvaluing him. Note to GAF: do not enter into hypothetical trade talks with bruce.
Well in his defense. Trading Playoff stud JVR for a mere goalie prospect would've been ridiculous. Nope, better trade him for the Leaf's 7th defenseman.

That was before another shitty year for JVR I wasn't happy with the Schenn deal either. I still think that deal sucks.

The Edler deal is just dumb. Couts wasn't available in a Weber deal for a reason.

So Darren Dreger is tweeting some details about the NHL proposal..

NHL proposed a 6 year term today. Players Share: 2012/13 - 51.6% 2013/14 - 50.5% 2014/15 - 49.6% 2015/16 - 50% 2016/17 - 50% 2017/18 - 50%

I'm told league proposal reduce financial "ask" tabled in first proposal by $460 million including, by $120 million in Year 1.

Proposed Salary Caps: all projected and fixed: 2012/13 - $58M 2013/14 -$60M. 2014/15-$62M. 2015/16-$64.2M. 2016/17 - $67.6M 2017/18 - $71.1M

EDIT: Imagine if the salary cap actually ends up being $58 million.. 16 teams would be over the salary cap.. and the NHL hasn't asked for a rollback on salaries with the new proposal.. apparently.. or indicated it..

I wouldn't worry about the Canucks, because coming out of the CBA will be limited contracts (7 years max). We haven't signed any bad contracts except for Luongo, so we don't need to worry like those other teams will.

Obviously there's going to be a rollback if the cap is lowered a significant amount. The average payroll is above 58m (and there are still some UFAs), meaning that the entire NHLPA wouldn't be able to fit in a 58m cap league with the current salaries.

Eedler for Scheen.

So if the cap is 58 milli is that a percentage on all salaries rolled back or a select amount (say over 2.5 milli) that get rolled back? Also for the larger contracts, do they get renegotiated?

I imagine it'd be a rollback or amnesty buyout(s).

NHL hasn't proposed a salary rollback, under their proposal, the hit would all be under escrow.Doubt players will agree to proposal. #TSN

If there's any deals regarding being allowed to renegotiate or reduce a contract like in other sports like the NFL (guaranteed vs non-guaranteed money), I will be in love. Luongo would become an instant top commodity.

Quick desperate Detroit news:

“We're talking to a few people,'' Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. “There's some veteran defensemen looking for an opportunity. We need to sign another defenseman, maybe two.

“Will we do something before Sept. 15? Maybe.''

The Red Wings made a two-year offer to Carlo Colaiacovo worth about $2.5 million a season. They also have expressed interest in Michal Rozsival, Brett Clark and Mark Eaton.

As hard as I was on Roszival during his time here, he's a serviceable depth defenseman than can even play on the second pair if need be.

I've once again begun looking around for Winter Classic tickets, in case there's actually a season, or the season begins beforehand. There's a registration page on the Red Wings site, is that the same registration page to get drawn for a ticket, or just a newsletter-type thing?

You can't get to me. Having some banners from years ago means jack to me. Unlike some other Canuck fans here, I don't hold on to 40 year old baggage and I look forward. Stop looking backwards, talk about what you're going to accomplish this season.

So you are looking forward to disappointment then right? Sound like a Leafs fan.

This season is looking to suck for us, so I need to get in the smack talk before it comes back my way.
Too late. Even Columbus is getting their share.
