I picked up Splinter Cell: Conviction in the most recent summer sale on steam after having tried it on Xbox 360. I thought, this'll be great in 1080p @ 60 fps. That was not to be it seems, on max settings I get about 15 fps, on min settings I get about 20 fps. I find I hard to believe its just that bad of a port, it's like playing a sideshow. Is there a fix for this or should I just delete it and be more careful with checking these things before buying in future?

(btw my PC is decent and can run BF3 at 1080p @ 60fps so I'm quite sure it's not my hardware)

I get 60 fps on it no problem (2500k, 560Ti). Amazing game btw, and I'm talking about the Deniable Ops mode and not the main campaign. Much more true to the original series and incredibly tense and fun.

Was planning on going forward with my Steam FPS backlog but in a weird mood I booted up GTA4 instead. I did not like it at all on PS3, bought it day 1 and did regret it. Did not play more than 2 hours because it ran so poorly, was just ugly and did not like.. well, everything.

On PC however I am actually somewhat enjoying it. I am in 'chapter 2' now so the missions get kinda boring (YO DRIVE ME THERE, KILL 100000 PEOPLE) so I hope that changes again soon.

I also have the other GTA 4 versions (tony and that bike gang stuff) - they are better afaik?

Surprised they do a free weekend for a single player game, is the entire game playable? (I already finished it and all the dlc and I love it, but just wondering if they would do that)

Just an update on this, existing owners may find they now get access to a Mac build (or soon anyway).

If you don't have it yet, and want it on Mac (or PC), DON'T buy it yet. Hold off another day or two until we can get some discounting/sale stuff sorted.

Things are a little topsy turvy with how this is rolling out, and don't want any potential customers here being disadvantaged.

New this was coming when I accidentally saw it in my list!

Whenever I hit the A button in Borderlands 2, it thinks that's I've hit the A button twice. It makes navigating the menu with my 360 pad quite the adventure. :\

Edit: Also hitting LT opens the menu instead of bringing up the sights. :\ :\ :\ :\

For anyone interested in the Next Big Thing:

It boasts pretty decent visuals, but its humour, characters, and plot are incredibly terribly written. Do not buy this unless you want to have your intelligence offended.

Definitely, not to mention a horrible interface that's rather insulting through it's simplicity.

I felt crushed after all the good hype people had said, utter tripe that now haunts my game library!

I thought they fixed the menus so that they worked with a mouse and everything. Or do you just prefer controllers?

It doesn't. Be ready for a 20-hour fest of being a designated driver and bodyguard. The story's good, though. And I laughed a lot with the virtual internet and TV.

Next week I will be advising on dealing with inner-city gang culture via Jet Set Radio. A good start is making sure your attack choppers hover out of reach of pedestrians/rocket skaters, see Die Hard 4.0 and that Wolverine film for how not to do it.

I NEED JSR RELEASE IT NOW

20 hours? Took me 45 hours. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Yep. And I don't get the GTA IV haters because the missions have always been awful. Grand Theft Errand Boy could be applied to every single game.

The difference in GTA IV is it's so much better because the world comes alive. And has great physics. And a great driving model. And intelligent cop behavior. All of this combines to create a world that just sucks you in. It's so good to be bad in this game.

EDIT: Of course, my playtime consisted of the main story and screwing around as a world class deviant. Forget the side quests. Although Brucie was absolutely awesome. But Roman was a killjoy. I wouldn't even answer the phone when he called.

I love GTA IV and every other GTA chapter but I must say that San Andreas had much more inventive missions than "go from A to B in this time" or "kill those people". Anyway I never complained about variety in GTAs beacuse even driving around town is always a different experience, so it's absolutely fine with me.

I 'hated' it when I played it for a few hours on console. I kinda like it now but I really dislike that there are no checkpoints during missions. I just finished that
bank robbing
and had to do it over 3 times because of bugs. Looooooong drive.. :/ And I am pretty sure there will be way longer missions in the game.

I started to ignore all the dating, keeping up with friends and stuff so that made it more enjoyable as well. Seems like you don't really get anything out of it anyway.

I also just cheat with verhicle density. I just turn it all the way down when I have to flee or something. :p I just want to get it done fast and then start the other episodes which seem to more loved by people.

The mission diversity in San Andreas has yet to be matched by any open world game. This has been explained in pretty much every GTA 4 thread for the last 3 years.

I don't hate the game, I actually *liked* it. But the missions were much worse than the previous games. Vice City and San Andreas had much more variety in that aspect, and each one had some that I really enjoyed.

So Jet Set Radio isn't going to show up on the steam store until its released? IDK if I'm going to get it right when its released, looks like so much fun but I am still addicted to Dark Souls.

Might need a little break though, been playing that so much in my minimal free time lately. Between my gf and school doesn't leave much time for games. I do get some time everyday though, and I have Fridays off, so Thursday nights is game night.

I've got Torchlight as a gift from a fellow GAFfer, and I suppose I won't get a spare copy if I purchase the bundle. Are the other games worth getting?

i know this is getting beaten to death, but these bundles give you 1 key for the bundle and not per individual games, right?

got a few of those, but intesreted in the others

I'm too poor to pay $60 for a game I'll end up playing single player. That and $60 for a game is absurd. $30 is my max.

Additionally by the time I'll have bought it, everyone will stop playing it and I won't be able to party anyways with anyone.

Hellooooooo $5 steam sale for me.

It's already up for me.

Magicka again (yawn).

Spellforce series is on sale.

However looking at the games it might only be worth it to get Spellforce 2 Gold Edition.

Edit: I'm dumb you were looking for the daily deal.

I'm surprised to see Lego games as the Daily. Pity it isn't either of the Harry Potter-based entries; they're the only two I'm missing. :( (Well, those and Lego PotC, but we all know how receptive Disney is to Steam.)

Amazon had steam keys of the harry potter games a week or two ago.
