Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

So now that we have seen 7 of the 10 maps, what does everyone want to see in the final 3 maps?

Another competitive?

Midsize?

Covenant themed map?

Space themed map?

Those suggestions are what I want

I want to see some more Guardian and Midship sized maps.

What do you expect on 512mb of RAM and 7-8 year old hardware? If this was a PC game it would be blowing everything thing else out of the water because what they have achieved on the limited resources they have on a 360 are astounding.

This is essentially a send off for the 360. It shows that the console has aged and Microsoft has done a tremendous job at getting it to last this long. I'm not trying to join team SLRP here but seriously, with what they were given, 343 has done an outstanding job with the visuals and gameplay from what I've seen.

If you know you and your spouse make 60 grand a year you dont go buy a mansion.

Meaning if you know you have to work with shit and piss. You make the smoothest creamiest shit... You don't paint a Mona Lisa with it.

Analogies, still working on figuring out how they work.

Dammit, Sai gives you gold here and NO ONE bites. GOLD. NO ONE.

Back at home, short: Halo 4 is cool.

But I think Complex was to big for me for the gametypes.

Jetpack is still bad.

Didn't play Flood.
Dem impressions.

Tell us more. What gametypes did you play on Complex? How many games?

I wonder what Kyle thinks of the Mantis on Ragnarok.
Do you really?

Look, you're welcome to form your own conclusions. You're a grown man. I'm just telling you that the framerate present in that video is not representative of that mission on any of the dozens of times I've played it.

Someone should check out Frank's gameplay performance cause I was seeing frame skips during the Q&A.
The less off-screen footage, the better. A lot of times it's all we got and it always leads to misinterpretations about what we're seeing.

Im actually pretty shocked that Bungie would have acted like that.

Understanding is a three edged sword.

Your side, their side, and the truth.

Well yeah you kind of cut away the rest of my post where I discussed that. :p

Heh. I just mean we've heard one guy's view of what went on. I hate evaluating until I've heard all sides (though here, we never will).

Plus, how often do I get a chance to quote Babylon 5?

I'm one of the few that enjoyed Too Human. lol...

You can sit with Grim and I, crying in our beers because we'll never get Too Human 2.

That didnt really give much more information.

Im actually pretty shocked that Bungie would have acted like that. Also shocked that Halo was forced on them and they had to change theyre game to accomodate it. Suddently the vast change between the first trailer and the full game is a bit more apparent.

I personally love Halo Wars and still play it, shame that behind the scenes it seems like so much douchbaggery went on whether thats from MS, Ensamble or Bungie.

It could be all Microsofts doing, Ensambles doing or Bungies doing, or a mixture.

For all we know he is lying now for whatever reason, I doubt thats the case, but its a possibility. Either way its a shame that behind the scenes there seems to have been animosity as the project ended up pretty well.

I wish Ragnarok wasnt so awkward to say or type. Valhalla and even Asgard roll of the toungue much nicer.

Didn't have time to watch the whole thing, if that's the case, that's good news.

I would expect the game to be scaled back to avoid those issues. Is that asking too much?

I don't think 343 sees maps that small as a viable option anymore. Sprint and 5v5 being the new standard has changed the definition of "small map".

Your argument makes sense to me. I didn't watch the video, though, so I have no idea if you're right.

Well, that's good to hear, although you're not saying there aren't frame drops during gameplay either.

All I can do is make deductions based on what I'm seeing and what we know to have happened before. What I saw didn't seem like a 20fps stream as much as a frame rate that was bouncing around during gameplay. Then, like I said before (kind of like with other things) we've heard 'this song and dance' before (about more things than just this).

At this point it's better to expect frame drops, and some pretty severe ones while hoping that we are wrong.

Of course, if you could say "there are no severe frame drops" that would fix everything, but I doubt you would say that, nor could you.

Also, there's first hand experience from HaloGAF that Spartan ops has frame drops, so from that we can most definitely assume campaign will be rife with them .

Still getting the game day 1 mind you, I love me some Halo. I just really am not a fan of frame drops (especially "glacier" type drops). ;)

It wasn't bouncing around there. It's smooth in the off-screen parts and lower when full screen in the video, but consistently so. It's the video.

Well, naturally that's true. My first reaction is to go all defense-force about how they didn't have to show it at all, etc, and my second reaction is to go with my first.

Oh haha fair enough.

Yeah I would love to hear the MS and Bungie perspective on this, but someone will be lying, and we wouldnt know who.

My first reaction would be to state that it wasn't a complaint on my end, just an added (and repeated) explanation for Ellis having to make an added (and repeated) explanation for the comments he's responding to.

Though you and he already knew that. So naturally, it was true.

I want to see some more Guardian and Midship sized maps.

Although a Guardian remake in the same jungle setting we saw from the E3 demo would be sweet, I think the smaller maps are better saved for Forge remakes.

Hopefully after this point we'll see much less [new] Campaign footage anyway ;]

-Bungie/Ensemble discussion-

I think Ensemble was put in a bad spot because I'm sure Bungie was definitely salty at first that M$ started spreading their baby around. Bungie realized that with such a success that Halo is, they own no rights to it. Shit would make dry me out.. lol

So of course, Bungie had no option other than to help Ensemble, leaving Ensemble in an awkward position because even though Bungie was surely helpful and nice, obviously they felt the tension of Bungie relinquishing full custody of Halo.. so it was probably the result of some tension between M$/Bungie that Ensemble felt some of, naturally..

Either way, I only played this "revolutionary RTS game for consoles" because it had the Halo name on it. I would have never been interested otherwise and the same holds true for many of those in the HW community, so thankfully M$'s apparent "greed" in this situation led to a new franchise many people grew fond of.

Rare outcome to a surely sticky situation I'd say.. <3 Halo Wars

When the press gameplay of Solace was out, I enjoyed the player owning without sprinting throughout most of the match. Weapon strength, AA's, Ordnances, and map flow felt perfect through observations :)

Lttp on today's gameplay videos. Will watch right now.

Agreed with every single thing in this post. (Except for the bolded. :p)

Small Arena maps are a staple of Halo, would be a shame to relegate them to Forge.

I just want some way to look around the maps.

You can't float around like in Forge if that's what you're saying.

Other than that, you should just be able to go to System Link or Splitscreen.

I don't know if I'm aware of what issue you could be having.

EDIT: WHAT THAT JERK ABOVE ME SAID!

You should be able to host a system link game and then start it by yourself, even if nobody is is connected.

edit: although I swear you can start a local splitscreen by yourself.
I don't have a working second controller. :(

Also, is there any way to get DLC Halo 2 maps on to the 360?

IF you have the map pack disc then you can install them. Won't get you Tombstone and Desolation though, and we can't talk about how you can acquire Tombstone and Desolation on here.

The "new halo hype" is really starting to get to me. Even with all my reservations, I'm starting to get that feeling that I've gotten every few years.

Although Borderlands 2 is still keeping me going, and probably will for the next couple weeks. I was going to get RE6, but the demo was atrocious.

I swear, these haters really need to drop the 'tude and be more positive.

Maybe some of Butters' Creamy Goo will help.

Yeah, same here. I really really want to play some Halo, but neither Reach nor 3 appeal to me after seeing so much Halo 4 footage. Between now and launch I think I'm going to do a "Best of Halo" campaign run, playing my favorite levels from each game. But I don't see myself playing much multiplayer.

Complex looks like a "Halo: Reach Greatest Hits" map. Similar outdoor aesthetics, and some familiar pieces from Powerhouse, Boneyard, and Boardwalk.

Not really a complaint though, just an observation. Although from the offscreen footage, probably my least favorite revealed map so far.

This. I was really scared I have to play it, luckily I didn't

edit: Top of the page post huh?

Complex was really confusing for me for the first time.

I wished Ragnarok would have been playable :(

Lol, u mad.

Go read a star trek fanfic or something.

Edit: Lol, caught you before your edit. Simmah down brah.

I don't need to simmer down. That was a joke outrage. Figured it'd be harder to tell without the "Mr. Expert," so I edited out. Though to be fair, your "I took Intro to Film too!" read like "Tell me something I don't know." I was just trying to help you by giving a possible explanation for what was going on, man.

Whenever you're dealing with A/V equipment you're never going to get perfect. Even if you have designated equipment that has a permanent home in one room, there are issues that develop over time for the simple reason that electronics get old. It's a lot harder when you're on location or you're setting up in a room that doesn't have any A/V support besides power outlets. In those situations there are any number of things that can potentially go wrong. The lightbulb in the projector you brought along could be dying. You have to be even more careful of feedback – I was hearing some in the Q&A session I was able to watch. I think Frank was using a lavalier in that video, and they're very hard to nail down how much gain you should give 'em because the speaker isn't talking into the microphone. (And, of course, it varies on the speaker). Another microphones you brought could – for whatever reason – be suffering from a very poor pick-up range. One of the wires in an XLR cord could be messed up, dropping the sound quality. You could have a VGA amp that's acting screwy. And even if it's all brand new equipment, if something goes wrong during a presentation it's hard to nail down which piece of equipment – if it is a piece of equipment – is giving you trouble because you have so many wires running to and fro everywhere. A signal could be getting dropped somewhere, some VGA cord could be dropping a primary color...

Point of all that is to say there's a lot of factors at play. Game could be running fine.
