Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

Yeah buddy, this is the secret sauce right here. I honestly think that Halo 4 will nail the Halo 2 environment variation. New art team, Requiem seems extremely diverse, and a fresh look on Halo should give us some incredible environments to play in.

For sure. I still wish we would return to Earth though. Then again, the story explanation for that would be pretty lame and would probably look like a copy paste of Halo 3.

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet. Turns out one of the new Megabloks sets is the Mantis.

I was all excited, but then I remembered it's megabloks, and thus will have warped parts that refuse to stay together. Still. Also, SAW!

that minifig is pretty cool.

Also, man I'm behind on news. I see all these map expositions and stuff and I just can't get myself excited for the game anymore for some reason. There's so much stuff and I just want to play Halo again.

Halo 2 did have the most variation in its environments, and I really enjoyed it for that. Cairo Station, Earth, Halo 05, Forerunner research facility, and High Charity. Doesn't seem like a lot, but some of those environments changed through the game (High Charity) or provided with wildly different locations (Halo 05).

Seeing we're on a nostalgia trip on Halo 3, I thought I'd post this part from the end of The Ark. (I posted this before over on HBO back in 2010).

So at the end of The Ark, there's a ring with a bunch of jetpack brutes and a Brute Chieftain in the middle. I'd always just opened up on them right away, anxious to end the level. Well, as it turns out, the Chieftain is actually shouting at you, challenging you to a duel. He yells, "“For the Prophets! Fight me! I’m right here!”

So if you accept his duel, you and him will fight to the death with the other brutes jeering you.

It's a pretty cool scene, and one that's easy to miss. The wail of the jetpack Brutes when I slew their Chieftain in solo combat was glorious. If you're replaying, I highly encourage you to accept his challenge.

WHAT.

Never knew this.

Looking back on Halo 3 pics, I'm reminded of one of the things that disappointed me in Reach.

In Halo 3, we could blow up Phantoms.

You can in Reach as well. It just takes a lot more to do so. I killed a ton of phantoms on that mission once to farm the weekly challenge (get a crazy number of points on a campaign mission). I used a wraith.

Didnt know about that, I was busy killing them from behind.

I loved trashing through the forerunner ruins in a scorpion in Delta Halo.

The gondolas in Regret were pretty memorable as well.

All in all I think Halo 2 has the most interesting and diverse set pieces of the Halo games so far.

At work so I'm not caught up and I know we got wind of it earlier, but here are the full details of the LE boxset delay.

Dear Andrew,

We unfortunately have to move the release date for the Halo 4 Original soundtrack limited edition box set back to Nov 6th due to an exclusive content reveal. On October 22nd will send you a very exclusive track from the game called ‘Desecration’ which is not on the original soundtrack and you will also receive a full digital copy of the album. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your support - The Omega/The Halo 4 team.

From Elzars Link:

They describe the Antagonist in the game as a grotesque massive being, Im thinking he could have been infected by flood?

NO!

NOoooooooooo! Fuck. No. No. No. I fucking HATE the flood. Hate hate hate them. That damned story has finished. Can we just not have them in this game?? PLEASE?

:(

Holy crap man, it's been a while since I've seen this, but good Lord is it still ever-fantastic. Literally tear-inducing.

I know, it is probably the only Halo video that truly captures, and sums up what I love about Halo. Also, M83 and the footage were a perfect marriage for that video. Agh I can't get over how much I love that video.

i mean we know they're in the game, there's an entire multiplayer mode focused on them

Don't see why going the extra mile to make flood spartans means they are in campaign. Flood is just alien zombies as far as gameplay.

How was the
story of the Flood
finished?

They killed gravemind and removed the flood from earth. Otherwise wouldn't the planet be lost to them if the flood still existed in any way? Also that was what the whole damned trilogy came down to. So why the fuck do we want to continue that. Can't we have a more menacing and new saga begin?

Fucking hate the flood.

Guys, just so nobody is accidentally spoiled, I think you should move the discussion to Dani's spoiler thread. Or take it to PMs at the least.

...

Can't believe so many people didn't know about the Brute challenge at the end of The Ark. I think I figured that out on my second play-through. Well, I've known about it for a while at least.

I NEED THE LE OST IN MY VEINS

please please please give us a confirmation that the digital soundtrack release is lossless and not some 192 Kbps bullshit or something

Must resist temptation. I have to say I'm doing a much better job at keeping myself unspoiled. I don't think I would've been able to not watch those spoilers when Reach was about to release.

Do you read the books? Lol...

No. The whole trilogy was about the war against the Covenant which ended. But if you think you won't fight the Flood anymore, you were ignorant for the past two years. Every piece of fiction which had been released, except for the Kilo-Five Trilogy, deals with the Flood: The Forerunner Trilogy, the Anniversary terminals and even the fiction behind the Prometheans.

If you don't proceed at a leisurely pace with sound cranked up, you miss a lot of the Halo campaigns.

SPOILERS - MAJOR SPOILERS IN THAT PREVIEW, HOLY SHIT
Well, it was a nice visit today (only Halo site I can access from the hospital other than HBO's front page) glad I got to share the speed run with everyone, time to once again go dark.

Was going to pack that up into a haiku but... Morphene.

No sorry. I only play the game. The story in the games was a bit too odd/I hate the flood. It turned me off big time to them.

Halo 4 looks great so far, and I am excited by how the story seems to be an integral part to it. It makes me almost want to read the books.

I watched the halo animated shorts, and played the games and read online here about the stories from the books. Especially since I hear how games like this and Reach are making changes to the books.

I kill them on New Alexandria. Can you do so on other missions as infantry? I have never seen it pulled off, and never did myself.

Alright, most of you weren't here for the release of the previous games so it's understandable, but listen, since the spoiler tag is used for all kinds of things and to avoid people uncovering them while distracted, it is custom and polite to put a brief bolded description of what kind of spoiler is included in your post right before the spoiler. Like so:

(Halo 4 story spoiler!)
Cortana gets pissed at this thing or the other.

(Campaign gameplay spoiler!)
Warthog of the seas!
