The latter half is a really good watch. 1 v 1 matches in particular you can really just see more people trying to capitalize on particular strategies rather than the 4 player free for all which is just a instinctive romp of combat
Im eager to watch it!
So there will not be any unlockable characters? Only dlc which will be later and you have to pay for them? The point of a game like this is to get to unlock hidden characters. Like mortal kombat there was always new characters to unlock per game.
No, the point of a game like this is to have fun solo, with friends or random people online.

Judging from your avatar...You're gonna like a lot of these matches. There's a 2 v 2 match with one team composed of Evil Cole and Good Cole. Then a 1 v 1 match of Drake and Evil Cole. (Which is especially funny for me because they're competing to be my main hehe)

Speaking of online, I don't think there's gonna be another game that will compare to the amount of online play I'm gonna get from this.

I honestly thought the exhibition last night was good until jak vs R/C. Way too long, way too boring. 7 mins for one match. A CVS2 match (which is already considered long) is nowhere near that.

PSAS should stay 2v2 with time/stock if it wants to stay in the competitive scene. Nobody will want to watch if its 7 minutes of one match. What if you have to do 2/3 or a GF 3/5? GF with a reset could literally take up to an hour. Thats not including downtime.

edit
No fighting game that aims to be competitive should ever have unlockable characters ever.

So looking from the OP it seems you only get the game on both Vita and PS3 if you buy it on PS3? Just wanna check if this is the case as I swear I remember a Sony rep saying they were gunna make it so that you got both versions regardless of how you bought it?

I like all character unlocked from the get go. No grinding needed to unlock anyone. Not something I like to do

I actually didn't like it initially. But that's just because I like unlocking characters I don't know about and being surprised. But since we know everyone I'm glad they're all there from the get go. Wouldn't change it now if I could

Honestly in that match I thought both players were just playing really defensively. I think 1 v 1 could definitely be the competitive standard. But I guess we'll see about all that

Only buying the PS3 version will net you the Vita game, not the other way around.

You only get both with PS3 version cause Vita version is cheaper.

It seems like either Timed is the best way to play for 1 v 1's because it forces both players to be more offensive. One thing about the Ratchet and Jak match was that Ratchet starting running away and it really started to draw out the match which wouldn't have happened in Timed. Another thing they can do to remedy that problem is by turning up the AP gain for 1 v 1's it will speed up the flow of the matches and allow for more tactical usage of the character Supers and Dodging.

1v1 could be the standard IF there is a time limit and set lives. I'd assume 3-5 minutes at most would be the time limit as well considering most fighting games would be around the same.

I don't think turning up the AP gain would be a good idea. It will ruin the balance of things.

I'll give you an example in SF terms

Lets say time outs are an issue and you just say "lets turn up the dmg then". Characters like dhalsim who are designed to do small dmg over time due to their zoning capability now have a way to not only control the pacing of the match but now kill you from full screen away. It's similar to why there is never infinite time in any fighting game tournament.

I think a set 3-5 min time + stock is the way to go for 1v1

I enjoyed the 7 minute match, but interestingly all kills came from stage interruptions. I think they should cap a time limit on top of the score limit as an option for these tournies or whatever.

I love Cole as a character and evil cole even more but I think I will gravitate towards characters like Big Daddy or Sir Dan, still I think I'll wait to play every character to decide everyone is so different even good cole and evil cole.

Yeah, plus, who doesn't already know all the characters going in? Fighting games always get spoiled nowadays. Much more fun to be able to dive in and unlock costumes and other stuff instead IMO.

Yeah I actually like that. Lives and time? That sounds good to me.
Is that a thing we can do? Haven't seen too much about how we can set up games but it seems simple enough that we should be able to do that

Haha thanks for the quick responses, but yeah that makes sense. I thought they may have been planing on selling the Vita and PS3 version at the same price so you could choose which way round you had the physical and digital copies. Guess I better shift some stuff around on the Vita!

Hopefully you can do it like Smash and have stock with a time limit. 3 stock with a 5 minute time limit seems reasonable.

....I actually completely forgot about my cruddy memory situation. Thanks for reminding me I need to back some things up before PSAS releases! Haha

Agreed, and the sheer amount of unlockables is what makes this so fun.

I notice they arent talking much about minions anymore. But having to unlock minions, and making them rare unlocks (maybe like acing challenge mode, etc) is another great way to brag online and give this concept of unlocking and rewarding without ruining balance.

I mean, aside from desperately wanting to see the challenge mode and how the final boss plays out, I am so excited to unlock taunts. Especially if they make some really rare, taunting is such a cool little addition that just adds to the smack talk culture of fighting games.

Well there is a Score limit thing that pretty much acts as a stock.

I mean hell if you need to get 5 kills to win the match, its the same as the opponent only having 5 lives before he/she loses.

edit
Talking about 1v1 setting. Obviously changes in a 2v2.

Personally, I hope you have to do some crazy stuff to unlock a minion. Make it like the ultimate bragging tool

tartar sauce

Well there could be basic unlocks, but super awesome taunts and minions should totally be harder. Surely there is a reward for beating challenge modes :p I mean, the trophies are easy as pie.

Or maybe that's how they will make their DLC money-- charging for aesthetics LBP style. I wont complain if it keeps characters free :p

I find it weird Polygon Man is trying to get revenge on the PASBR cast when really it was Crash who ousted him as the PS1's mascot.

Still a way cooler final boss idea than whatever the fuck Taboo was supposed to be

Well in a recent IGN article (maybe someone can link it is the article about the final boss) they said they were thinking to use the helghan army as the fianl boss, in my opinion that would have sucked so much. I think they mentioned Dr. Nefarious too.

Wow, haha. So glad they went with Polygonman instead.

God, could you imagine The Helghast as a boss? Lol.

Nefarious is damn awesome, but it makes no sense to go with a game character. Giant Enemy Crab, Polygon Man, T-Rex, or even a Superbot creation

I want them to break the 4th wall so bad, it'd be so cool to hear Polygon Man's crazy motivations :p

Well to be fair Nefarious would be the best choise if they went with actual game character.

Helghast army is pretty wtf tho lol. Radecs story would have been trippy tho.

I'm just glad Nefarious is in the game period. I always mention how great a character he is. No complaints would have been given from me if he happened to be the final boss.

I love how hyped I am for this game. Games like this don't come around that often. How many times can you talk to your friends about a game and just discuss something as simple as what you're going to do first? I swear it's like Christmas morning haha. Even if it doesn't deliver, the journey of hype/leaks/Paul Gale was definitely worth being around for

Lots of content.

Beyond arcade mode with intros, endings, and rival cut-scenes for every character and all the multiplayer stuff, All-Stars has tons of interesting challenges and trials (both overall trials and character-specific stuff). Certainly it’s hundreds of hours of content there, and a very extensive set of unlocks, from titles, to taunts, to character-specific intro and outro moves, musical themes, badges, etc. Hope this helps.

Siliconera - Did you try for Crash Bandicoot at all? Crash was so synonymous with the PlayStation brand early on even though he’s at Activision now.

Omar - Yeah. I have to say it’s not that Superbot is some independent developer chasing down third-party characters. This is a negotiation that happens on a much higher level than Superbot, with Sony and Activision, these two giant companies.

And I completely understand how big and important a character like Crash is to the PlayStation universe. We want to make it clear to fans that we understand how important a character Crash is to the PlayStation universe. Obviously, we try everything in our power to try and get characters like Crash.

Another interview nothing too new however, if you've been following the game for a while now.

Seth's reply regarding DLC and lack of iconic characters makes me think they may announce DLC before or at launch:

have yet to comment on how awesome the intro for this game is, despite having watched it for like 10 times.

Anyway, regarding your post: Read in between the lines and you can tell this is a confirmation that Crash is in the game.

He doesn't use "tried". Omar says "try". Plus the talk about dlc.

FUCKING ACTIVISION

if the game is a success, acti can change their mind and lend crash for dlc or sequel.

edit: now that I think about it, dlc is more likely. acti is not doing anything with crash right now, any money they can get out of it is a plus for them,so most likely they go for crash dlc and get most of the money that come from that dlc. triple win for acti, sony, and gamer (aside from having to pay extra for crash)
