Wii U eShop Launch List: 23 digital titles/pricing (retail & indie)

Well, that's that then. Not buying anything digitally from Nintendo again.

Not that it matters much to me, but why is this a deal breaker, exactly? Did you expect to take your games to another Wii U system and just have them play while your copy sits at home, no questions asked? Retail discs can't be in two places at once, either. Besides, the way some people talk about how they expect it to sell, you probably won't KNOW anyone with a Wii U system you could take that content to.

As I see it, there were only 2 options: tie it to a 1 authorization per console setup that's actually transferable (either through a call to Nintendo to lift the authorization to the old console or with an online pass setup that checks for other instances of the software on your account, the EXACT logistics of it aren't 100% specified), or have a per-download license like iTunes movies where you're fucked if the storage it's on suddenly dies (and with HDDs at an average 5% failure rate within the first 2 years, it's a very real and grim possibility). At least with option #1, you have the ability to re-download it at all.

If internet users could be trusted not to make free copies onto HDDs and re-downloading them on their console because of a "hard drive crash", this would not be an issue, but we've seen time and time again how this is not the case. I don't think I've gone a week without someone on GAF getting banned for admitting (often accidentally) to software piracy. And that's in a forum with a zero-tolerance policy towards it. It's a rampant problem with no easy solution for anyone.

What about Virtual Console? Any sign of that yet?

Iwata already mentioned it is coming at a later date, replete with Wii U features, no exact date given, but it's a money-maker for Nintendo, so it'll be sooner than later. For now, just the original Wii VC is available on Wii Shop Channel.

No, I expect to be able to play my games on any Wii U that I'm logged into though. That's not asking a lot since I can readily do that with 7 year old consoles.

Guys. So you can just purchase e-shop games on a premium set and it will automatically detect the promotion? Just making sure there isn't anything specific i have to register.

Just started downloading NSMBU. Oh thank GOD, you can download anything in the background while doing anything else it seems. Awesome!

I want the EU pricing, we usually get shafted here on Digital titles.

On PSN for example, a new release is €69.99, where a retail copy can be got for €49.99 locally, and online for about €44.99.

I will bet good money that it will still be cheaper to import physical than by from the eShop here in the Aus/NZ region.

Posted this in the miiverse OT but got no reply, maybe this is more on topic here.

I am curious if you can change your region at any time like the 3DS, is that possible?

If so, can you use the credit card from a region on a different region account, also like the 3DS?

Does the Wii Shop in Wii Mode use the same wallet as your eShop account? If so, then every full digital game purchase is basically a free NES game.

So you're advocating the online pass method illustrated in my post, where it checks your account for instances of multiple sign-ins and thus necessitates an internet connection to play a downloaded game? That's still a possibility thanks to being account-based (it'd just be a network and firmware tweak away if it's not there right now), but all current info SEEMS to indicate it's hardware tethered. "Seems" is obviously the key word.

Any Little Inferno impressions? It's got members of the World of Goo team working on it, so I'm definitely interested.

Is there anyone to check and see if your eshop is linked to your club nintendo? I don't want to download anything until I'm sure

So, I just picked up a Wii U today, havent followed it at all. So question, apologize in advance if stupid-really stupid, but will Wii games ever be on sale through this for the Wii U store?

Not likely... Wii games are played in "Wii mode" which basically disables all Wii U features (see gamecube mode on Wii systems). Nintendo will likely release "HD" versions of certain Wii games either in retail or on eshop though. Easy money after all.

Why isn't black ops 2 on there? I hate that I have to buy a dumb physical copy
Ironically it's also probably the game with the most phoned in "manual". Figures that's the stuff you have more trouble getting online than the stuff that'd give you a nice manual, if a game doesn't bother to have a good physical package I care way less if I own it physically.

I feel like this has likely been asked a few times already, but where is the demos section? I don't see one anywhere.

I have $100 worth of Wii Points in my Wii Shop acct and about $20 on my 3DS acct. I'm guessing neither of those are accessible for the Wii U eShop?

Nano Assault Neo looks pretty good.

Does the Digital Deluxe perk automatically kick in? Sorry if already asked, and was answered.

So which of the indie titles are worth buying? Neo Geo?

It needs to work like the 360. When you buy you get two licenses. One system and one account that way it works as long as one of those things is present.

Yeah I did a little more digging on the matter.
Digital on consoles still has a little bit of ways to go to be completely viable.
Though the updated thread on how Nintendo is allowing publishers access to change their prices is a very good step so long as they don't want to stay greedy forever.

What I can say here in Italy related to Sony is that PS Vita games are about €5 cheaper on PSN than at retail (GameStop). I remember back when MGS: HD collection came out, when Gravity Rush came out, etc...

Plus, PSN titles can be authorized on more than one machine at a time and they are not tied to the HW they were downloaded but to the account which downloaded them and activated them on that machine.

Wow I'm seriously regretting going digital. 1h37m for 1.7GB? Are you kidding me?

It took about 3 hours on my slow ISP. :/ The Wii U is much quieter without the optical drive running though.

How large are the download sizes for the retail games, like NSMBWii-U?

1.7GB

I'm still waiting for my code. I'd like to know exactly how it works too.
