DmC: Devil May Cry - Demo Thread [Demo out now on XBL & PSN]

Yeah, this is pretty fun to play. I played it with the sound muted so I don't know what to expect, but from what I've heard in previews, and the visuals from the demo it looks like an anti-establishment emo boy's notebook fantasy or something. Curious to see how that pans out.

lol "WAR" "ANARCHY MAKES SENSE"

Yep. This is painful to look at for all the wrong reasons. It's so moronic I almost wish this was a wry self-aware parody of itself, just because of how dreadfully embarrassed I am for whoever made it.

Going to do my best to turn off my preconceived notions and maybe at least enjoy the environments when I load this up later.

Edit: Woops, thread moves fast.

Searched for it on PSN and found out there's absolutely nothing for this game on it, no trailers, gameplay videos, nothing. Good job promoting it Capcom!

It's two months away. You don't often see games getting a lot of publicity on the console stores until closer to release date. I think Capcom's done a better job promoting this thing than a lot of their other titles.

Secret rooms are fun, but the platforming one was pointless or was it just trying to showcase its background and visuals?

So far not too bad, I have to get used to the controls still (switching between angel and demon weapons)

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, first part was fun, especially on the highest difficulty setting...boss battle was really boring though.

I accidentally parried some enemy with Stinger and it looked awesome.

Playing on Nephilim and I agree with LHK, game is piss easy. One enemy hit takes like half of a single bar and all attacks are super telegraphed.

Yep they made a post saying that the 21st is for the Europe store demo. So US store is good to go today whenever it's up. =D

Best glitch ever.

On a related note I hope there's a sprint ability in the game. Right now the best way to get around is to Angel Glide low to the ground. Helps shaves off some seconds.

Gbraga you asked me if a poor man's Starrave is possible and looks like it is (just replace Aerial Rave with Hangar the Osiris equiavalent). Doing an actual Starrave is also possible but harder to do. Still easier than DMC4s although I don't think we will see anyone use it anytime soon.

And so the race to make the first DmC combo video begins....

You have to replace it with Hangar or it's just easier? Is it faster with Aerial Rave? I want it as fast as possible.

How soon can you attack out of a neutral air evade? Can you cancel the evade with an Angel Glide, or the opposite?

Can you still use slash/shoot/slash to manage your enemie's position in the air with the new shooting system?

It's easier with Osiris but you can do with Rebellion it's faster but harder that way.

Gonna test the other stuff seems like good things to tinker around with.

Yes to the last question but there is no need because there are a shit ton of ways to maintain air time even when you aren't juggling enemies.

Yup. Seriously Ninja Theory, ramp it up. I'm concerned they are worried that they are going to make it too hard (DMC3). They should really match DMC3:SE in terms of difficulty.

What do you think about Son of Sparda?

It's certainly my favorite, and I'm glad enemies and remixed - in addition to it being plainly more challenging.

All considered, all the difficulties should be shifted. Nephilim should be "normal" and Son of Sparda should be "hard." While Devil Hunter should be easy and Human should be very easy.

I'm just surprised they didn't change Devil Hunter to Demon Killer.

Is there anyone out there who is completely new to Devil May Cry playing this demo on devil hunter who can record footage?

Maybe I've completely lost touch on what is considered "normal" in a DMC game since I've played so much of it.

Oh nevermind. I fucked up. I meant X+A

Ninja Theory to do list:

-Make the regular enemies deal more damage to Dante. They hit like pussies.
-Give Dante a sprint option much like Nero after a few seconds of consecutive running. If you want players to soak in the game, fine - then let us unlock that ability on harder settings and replays. I can already see myself angel gliding through a level.
-Can you please give back enemy parrying? I miss the days when DMC1 prevented button mashing when an enemy puppet would parry Dante's attacks. DMC3 and DMC4 failed to bring it back.
-Arbitar is OVERPOWERED. It's damage output needs to be slightly reduced.
- There needs to be more recovery on Arbitar's attacks. As well as a on a whiffed launcher. Canceling attacks freely in an action game is crucial, but there needs to be more risk and reward if the player chooses to perform a hail mary with Arbitar.
- Dante's evade has too much invincibility. The start up and even some of the mid-way should be invincible. But the entire duration? That's a little too much invincibility on that.
I just read this and I agree with most of this.

Well except for the enemy parrying, that's actually in the game at Nephilim and SoS. Those shield enemies do parry. Regular enemies not so much. The advanced flying enemies have a wild forcefield that you need to be careful of.

Arbiter is dry as fuck, not enough move variety. It's especially dry when you have to kill those red enemies with just the Arbiter. I really don't look forward to being in a room of multi-colored enemies...

There is plenty of recovery on moves... the problem is that you are freely allowed to cancel into a dodge to make anything safe. It's the GoW syndrome.

Dante's dodge had been identified as being overpowered ever since E3. It's too good and it negates the importance of the various other evasive mechanics. Not that it matters because the enemies don't attack that frequently and in the off chance you get hit they don't take away that much damage.

What do you think about Son of Sparda?
I agree with what you said about the difficulties. Nephilim should be Normal/DH, SoS should be Nephilim/Hard. The problem is that SoS seems like it's balanced around having a full arsenal because spawning red/blue enemies early in the game would break it.

SoS at least has you dodging more, regular enemies can tank through your attacks sometimes. I am not a fan of those blue/red enemies... I can stand the blue because I like using Osiris but Arbiter is boring as hell. Putting restrictions on weapon usage is lame IMO.

Hack and slashes bored me, although I own all the DMCs. I like the graphics/art style, but the camera needs work. Wasn't planning on getting this, still won't. I'll wait until it's in the 10 dollar bin.

I played the demo.

The combat isn't as fluid as previous Devil May Cry's but I very much like the combat in its own right. I'm going an upload a video sometime this week of me playing the demo. There's some chain that I did which looked fucking awesome but I don't think I can replicate it.

Visually it's much more appealing than any previous Devil May Cry games. The lighting is a little too harsh at times but I love the shifting environments and there's so much color! It's crazy.
