Who is your Character of the Year?

Easily the most annoying character that I have encountered this year, she was not, in anyway, funny.

I'm definitely going with this guy, such a messed up, but interesting character that slowly goes mad, and as a player you sense every single beat of his madness while playing the game.

Captain Martin Walker (Spec Ops: The Line) Voiced by (who else?) Nolan North.

Honorable mentions go to:

The dude you play in Hotline Miami

The ninja you play in the Mark of the Ninja

The random person you meet online in the form of these guys in Journey.

And of course the very popular Lee Everett from Telltale Game's The Walking Dead Series.

Didn't have one-Hasn't been a great year for me gaming wise :( I haven't had a favorite character in a game since Bayonetta really.

This is gonna be dumb but I actually really enjoyed the dragon from Dragon's Dogma as a villian.

Dude is a massive dick. Comes out of nowhere, steals your heart and just says "come at me bro"

OK I'm going to change mine to that too then, because this asshole really *really* made me want to kill him.

As for actual characters/protagonists. Sign me up for Kat. I adore her character.

Lee Everett - The Walking Dead

He gets the top slot, though Clem should really be paired with them as their dynamic was a character all its own.

Yep. Either Yasha or Handsome Jack.

The biggest surprise for me, and the best part of Borderlands 2. He was the perfect villain.

Haven't finished the game yet (Hotline Miami) but he's a badass.

I have to give a shoutout to our nameless guy here, even though he isn't exactly a character and more of a blank slate that you murdered things with.

Really, Wei Shen is a big answer? Sleeping Dogs executes it's narrative well enough and the voice acting is strong, but a Dangerous Undercover Cop Who Is Volatile And Aggressive But Gets Results is the best character of the year?

Kid Icarus Uprising is truly excellent. Really entertaining characters, localisation did an incredible job.

My favourite new characters this year are Lee, Clementine and Kenny from The Walking Dead. Lee and Clem speak for themselves, but I also love what Telltale did with Kenny.

1. Kat / Gravity Rush:

Love her inner-monologue, and she seems like a great balance of personality and heroism that doesn't take either too far in the wrong direction. So many characters now-a-days seem to go out of their way to make me dislike SOMETHING about them, but Kat reminds me of simplier times, where heroes didn't need thick shades of gray, and forced "maturity" in order to be cool, and I really appreciate her for that.

2. Dust / Dust, and Elysian Tail:

After watching this guy develop for years, I'm happy to get to know him now! Jumped into those Megaman/Zero-like positions, when there is no Megaman to fill them :( His calm and angered sides were handled really well in voicework, and I liked how he kinda accepted things, and went on with the story, rather than get angsty and whiney, which he very well could have. The "buddy" nature of he, Fidget, and Ahrah were pretty level-headed too, and I was quite happy to see they never got truly mean-spirited to each other, as this happens often in such stories.

3. Frayne / Growlanser IV:

I... really wanted to kind of ignore her at first. She's the expected nice girl that your hero has to fall for, to some degree; The Rinoa, the Aerith... and she has amnesia! OH BOY!

But I was really impressed with how she discovered a new talent from this;
She started to paint and draw
, and that wove itself back into her overall character. She then became a nice outlet for the feeling of creative minds, and it made me kinda sad to think that you don't see many characters in games which explore said talent.

I could relate to much of the way she broke things down from that point on. I found myself liking her much more than I thought I would. Well played Growlanser!

Probably the only character that got an awesome arc that maintained a high degree of consistency and maturity, all this while remaining likeable and entertaining.

Varric from Dragon Age II deserves a mention, as well as Roche and Letho from The Witcher II.

Oh, oh, also I'm going to be pretentious and say Black Mesa as reimagined in the source mod.
