Who is your Character of the Year?

I'm definitely going with this guy, such a messed up, but interesting character that slowly goes mad, and as a player you sense every single beat of his madness while playing the game.

Captain Martin Walker (Spec Ops: The Line) Voiced by (who else?) Nolan North.

There's that one moment in the game when Walker is manning the helicopter gatling gun and he unleashes this insane scream of rage and fury that's both hilarious and horriflying. North did a hell of a job and I was completely inraptured.

Really, Wei Shen is a big answer? Sleeping Dogs executes it's narrative well enough and the voice acting is strong, but a Dangerous Undercover Cop Who Is Volatile And Aggressive But Gets Results is the best character of the year?

Fun character is fun, baffling, I know.

Wait, people are really saying Cortana? I never really cared for her character, but she was especially bad in Halo 4. She felt like a hyper-fanficized version of her character.

Body of a porn star (who incidentally always looks naked, but isn't technically naked because they don't detail nipples or vag), but the face and personality of a cute and innocent teenager? Come on. Plus all the pseudo-romantic stuff between her and Chief was so awkward, and also took up like 90% of their interactions throughout the game. "Hey, Chief. Take a girl for a ride?" Someone actually watched that and felt anything other than embarrassment?

Facial animations were amazing, sure, but didn't matter much with such awful story and writing. And this is coming from someone who actually did enjoy the story in the first three Halo games for what they were.

Nolan North's performance in the second half of the game is outstanding. Some of the best voice acting I've ever heard in a game.

I liked the Boatman from Dishonored. He was a good man, and he was okay with being who he was. He had a quiet integrity that I really enjoyed, and an honesty of character (he felt like a person; not "he was an honest character") that really made him stand out to me.

Hard to say. I've got a couple. I've been with these characters for a long time but I felt that these were the games were their characters got to show all their stuff, and give a big payoff (well, for video games anyways).

I was kind of shocked how Halo 4 ended. While her voice might have been a little off in the start Jen Taylor did a wonderful job with Cortana. She had way more depth than the previous Halo's.

Not Shepard. But the two characters flanking him, Garrus and Liara respectively, provided some of the best moments of this generation for me in Mass Effect 3. Taking Garrus sharpshooting on top of the Citadel followed by Liara showing you her encyclopedia thingy was fantastic and will definitely stay with me.

Kat from Gravity Rush was just fun. She didn't have a whole lot of details about her but she had a cheerful attitude. And that goes a long way in todays gaming world of guns and violence. Whether she was constructing her shit house or saving a lost kid Kat reminded me a lot of the fun that comes with being a superhero. You know, without all of the angsty stuff.

Haha, yeah I know exactly which part.

My favorite "Hollie fuck!, what happened to this guy!" moment was
after the truck explosions...you see the back of his head and around the back of his right ear, his hair and scalp is all burnt off, and he just doesn't give the fuck anymore. It's like he is becoming scarred up like the joker or something
it's a small touch by the designers, but just makes him look so cool and well.. crazy.

so many good cahracters this year

She is not batman, superman or Spiderman

A lot of the characters I liked have already been mentioned, so I'm going to go with someone new.

Syrenne from The Last Story.

This all cannot be said enough.. every scene/line with her was awkward as hell.

Any character that inspires this much hilarious salt is definitely a candidate for character of the year.

I definitely agree with Kid Icarus characters. You could pick pretty much any character from the game and I'd be cool with it. That game completely blew me away with it's personality and is one of the best games I've played in years.

I haven't really had a chance to play any of the other games people are mentioning though.

George Sewell from Silent Hill Downpour. What a magnificent bastard of a villain he was. I said damn.

Apart from him, that game really did have some of my favorite characters of the year due to the dialogue, voice acting, and how they're smartly woven into the story.

Haytham Kenway. The elegant badass character in the mold of balthier, Kenway rocks. He's well written (until the end of the game), well acted, funny, smart, charming, and beguiling. He's way better than Connor, who is trash.

Halo 4 Cortana for me. Character is over 10 years old but this is probably the first time in the whole series I cared about her and what's happening with her. Jen Taylor(voice actress) fucking knocked it out of the park as usual. Helps that 343 took extreme focus on the facial animations and graphics as well. Just a joy to experience.
The persistent sad brow ruins it a bit. It's possible to convey emotion through facial expressions other than:

The entire cast of VLR is amazing, but she sticks out. With Luna being a close second.

"That's Mushy Snugglebites' badonkadonk. She's my main squeeze. Lady's got a gut fulla' dynamite and a booty like POOOW!"

Fuck this. Fuck this. Fuck this.

If Mordin is eligible this year then my vote is for him. Without spoiling he had an incredible moment in ME3. If not then my vote is for Wei motherfucking Shen.
