Oh yeah, I want in depth impressions please!
Has anyone tried Knytt yet?
Firstly, all bow to the might Three - without whose gift of glorious 8Mbps 3G I would not be able to bring these impressions to you!
Actually, I don't have much to say at the moment. When you first launch the game it seems like you're already in the game - you can control a character and run around, but running to the right actually brings you to the title screen, then to the right again brings you to another area where you can choose what chapter to play, or some options (cloud saving, credits and trophies).
You start chapter 1 and there's a minimum of hand holding. You're told to go see your sister who asks you to get *mumble* from the *mumble* then you're free to explore (actually, you can just explore from the off).
It looks really nice (mostly single coloured backgrounds with some flowers (that you can sway with the rear touch), and the solid objects are all in black), and the ambient noise and sparse music creates a very... hmm I can't think how to describe it. It's not really solemn (though the wind reminds me very much of Limbo) - it's very relaxing, it makes you want to explore. You can climb any dark surface it seems (though overhangs will stop you from going too far without assistance, or perhaps a power that I don't yet have).
As I think has been mentioned elsewhere, the character models are not nice at all and seem at odds with the environment.
Controls wise, the left stick or d-pad control your movement (more on that in a moment), X jumps and circle brings up a map. The start button shows quests and options, while the select shows any artefacts you've collected. The L button activates powers that are given to you temporarily by glowing objects (the green one allows you to fly briefly, red to perform a single really high jump and blue to transport yourself safely across a hazardous terrain). The movement is very fluid, but it's INCREDIBLY sensitive and you move very fast which appears to make small accurate movements incredibly difficult - I can see that being a problem (it already has a little). They could really do with allowing you to tweak the sensitivity.
As for the quests, I've only encountered two. One to fetch a couple of items to persuade someone to open a "door" and the other is the one I mumbled earlier (and I mumbled it not for spoiler purposes, but because I couldn't remember what it was to do. Something to do with faeries).
Hmm, there's my jumbled thoughts based on about 20 minutes with the game. Looking forward to playing more later.
I was quickly adding them all to my basket - really fast with the webstore - that's just remove from basket button I think.
Ah, I thought it was to allow you to remove items for the download list.
