Okay I just woke up and I knew that new 3D Pokémon editions would most-likely await me but that Pokémon Direct announcement still blew me out of the water! :D I always feared that a 3D Pokémon would lose it's charm but from the bit I have seen it looks glorious! Yeah the graphics are still a bit rough and some places still seem empty but since it's only January Nintendo has to do something in the next months :p

And this could actually be the first time where I buy both editions day one, god I feel like 1997 again when I first was introduced to Pokémon, who cares that I'm 23 and soon have a job after studying it's just glorious! :D

Yeah, the event Pokemon are the big downer for me in collecting. I usually just do the single player stuff. Though won't lie, absolutely hate caves. And that's more than just fighting Zubats. Every step and a half it's a fight. It's like hell maybe one day I'll get out of this cave.

I really do hope with this new generation Nintendo stops focusing on going to places on giving out some Pokemon and does it online. Just do it within a specific time period or something, like they do now. Just make the time available really limited. I'd rather that than not having a chance at all. Used to be where I lived we didn't have any cool Pokemon stuff coming to town. Now that I live abroad, I'm kind of SOL still. I never got why they haven't done more via the internet. So much easier, but guess when you partner with companies they want to be the ones that people flock to to get it. That kind of stuff is archaic now though. Needs to die in a fire.

Just really hoping this generation focuses more on the online distribution. Been complaining about it since they allowed online trading and will be until it's implemented. Hoping for best.

EDIT: Skyfire, nothing wrong with that. I'm older and it feels like 1997 again for me as well. I'm like all giddy and on the hype train now.

Depends.

If by first-gen, you mean that you have FireRed/LeafGreen, then yes, yes you can. In order from oldest to newest games:

You can send Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen to Diamond/Pearl/PlatinumHeartGold/SoulSilver, which you can send to Black/White(2), which you can sent to X and Y.

Oh, that's was my question. So, they have to make models and animations for all pokémons! That's so much work!

The graphics are so uneven. Some of it looks nice and some of it looks fucking god awful. I know sprites were going away sooner or later but i'm disappointed it happened so early.

Just say WTF you're talking about already man. D:

Pokegen and GTS distribution mostly! I get a Pokemon I've legally obtained, pop it in Pokegen and tweak its personality value until I have something I want, then send its battle-ready twin back.

I guess it's a slippery slope, but I don't have 20 hours to make something either.

I'm glad they went full 3D. Pokemon needed a breathe of fresh air.

Pokemon threads always seem to devolve into nostalgists versus fans who've been playing the series across the most recent releases it seems.

Doesn't look too bad. I'm sure it'll look good on the 3DS screen.

Saying that, I haven't played a Pokemon game in ages. Was waiting until they went 3D. The 2D games became a bit tiring.

Definitely going to check this one out now.

Im glad I have gaf to freak out with about this. Just told one of the only people I know that still likes Pokemon and he just complained that it wasnt on DS.

Looks nice. I like the stag, and I'll probably take the grass starter (well, maybe fire...plenty of time to change my mind).

I wonder if there will be a way to turn off battle animations. They could really slow things down.

So uh, the way they made the game "fully 3d", is by zooming in on the character and changing the camera angle? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

Ohh, so it's like Pokesav, but more... legit I guess.

They count as legit pokemons? If so, that's cool. :)
