Listened to this the other week. It was so much fun. Thanks to everyone involved in making this episode happen. I would love for a GFW Radio come back, but I know its not likely :(

It's unfortunate that Jeff says that Kickstarter money wouldn't solve it, because I'd be willing to throw a lot of moneys to listen to some new GFW every week/month/year.

I'm also not sure why Robert is so against the idea of taking money for podcasting. I wanna pay for it, he leeches off of his wife, win win. :p

To me, with all of the members doing their own podcasts separately, the results are fine, but when they all get together to produce a GFW episode, the result is just super entertaining.

Anyway, I think someone should start GFW kickstarter with like a ridiculously large minimum, and if we make it, we make it, and if not then oh well.

Idle Thumbs is simultaneously the smartest and silliest podcast in relation to gaming. The bombcast is more like a funny way of hearing game reviews and previews.
I remember when Idle Thumbs did its RE5 episode, any semblance of intelligent discussion was immediately ruined by them yammering "FOUR! FIVE!" or some other joke they literally ran into the ground for the entire episode. Nary a serious thought could be conveyed because of the juvenile attempts at humor.

Never tuned into the podcast since.

It's an acquired taste, but they have some of the best talk of game design and game history put there. I'd say start from the beginning.

Idle Thumbs is slowly being consumed by its own memes and inside jokes. It's difficult to recommend it to new listeners because I know they'll be wondering what the hell all this stuff is about puffins and wizards and baboo and Far Cry 2 and Jeff Goldblum. When they get restarted I hope they declare a moratorium on all the self-referential stuff. Chris Remo put his foot down about a "Hooray for you!" meme before it even started and it worked pretty well. So I gotta think they are disciplined enough to keep that stuff to a minimum.

I'm a relatively new listener, only heard a few episodes and a best of compilation, and I get this feeling sometimes. There are a lot of memes that they've created and I have no idea what they mean or why they're funny when I hear them in more recent idle thumbs podcasts/video. I should probably check out their backlog, but I don't have the time right now/I'm too lazy.

Just get to an episode with Steve Gaynor and you usually have some more serious discussion.

Very true, I was hoping Steve would be the permanent third host again on the new podcasts. Anyone know why he's not? Work-related?

I don't know if anyone can help but Shawn Elliott read a book once which he mentioned in Out of the Game...

I don't remember much other than him talking about a hotdog vendor who undersold his rivals or he marketed his hotdogs in a way that there was more perceived value if you bought from him.

I wanted to check the book out but cant find the mp3 anymore...

I'm excited but the appeal of GFW was that they didn't seem to have a filter. Now most of them work for game companies so they're limited in what they can say and criticize.

Can somebody stop hyping for a second and explain to me what a radio station is doing in Gaming GAF and why it is generating such excitement

I'm not 100% sure but I think Shawn and Jeff are on rebelfm this week. Arthur said the episode was going up a day late due to those two. It might not be a full brodeo reunion but who knows. Excite!

GFW Radio was a fantastic podcast at 1UP.com a few years ago. The name 97.5 The Brodeo is an inside joke on the podcast. The podcast has been gone for a few years, but sometimes the guys will get together again, and it's always a treat when they do.

It's not a radio station, it was a gaming podcast from last decade that lives on in our hearts. It was hosted on 1up in that site's glory days (1up Yours! The 1up Show, GFW Radio, Retronauts, etc). Worth brushing up on the history, it's one of the best gaming podcasts ever, some say the best.

A nice old man mumbles absent mindedly, as some weird guy babbles on about pop psychology, video game design, and stories involving the worst aspects of internet culture. In between his stories, he frequently makes fun of a tiny guy who never speaks. They are joined by a Star Wars fanfiction author who also supplies dating tips and advice, and a surfer from Texas, whose stoned mutterings lend a mellow vibe to proceedings. Rounding out the team is nice guy in a baseball cap who says a smart and/or funny thing once every ten minutes or so.
