[PS3] New Kingdom Hearts HD Screenshots

Maybe I don't want a remake of FF7 after all. This looks almost as shitty as Wind Waker HD.

You'll need to find a better comparison. Square isn't doing things like altering the lighting the way Nintendo is with WW HD. It's literally the original game at a higher resolution.

Yea, I'm not sure why it looks bad? Visually, it's the next step from where they were at before and doesn't change any of the aesthetics.

Then again, we haven't gotten any gameplay screenshots yet, have we?

I have never played the Kingdom Hearts series so looking forward to this being my jumping in point. Looks like the art style as translated well to HD.

They did Tron and Pirates of The Carribean. There's no reason Star Wars can't or won't be included unless the game is so deep in development it's impossible. And I highly doubt that's the case. SW is worth more and more recognized than anything Pixar ever made.

That's not at all how Disney works, though. Lasseter et al. have been very careful about maintaining separate IP fiefdoms with distinct brand identities, to the point where Pixar characters, seven years after the Disney acquisition, are only now appearing in the same game as Disney characters, and only then in a carefully regulated fashion (all characters rendered in a consistent art style, no crossover allowed in the story mode levels, etc). Disney has only barely started even dabbling in crossing over Disney and Marvel IP (Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel), and that acquisition was a full three years ago.

On the other hand, Tron and PotC were created under the Disney umbrella, not Pixar or Marvel, so there's been little issue with crossing them over.

So if you expect KH3 to fulfill all your wildest Disney/Pixar/Marvel/Star Wars crossover fantasies, you're in all likelihood going to be very disappointed come... 2015 or whenever it ships.

They're starting to loosen up in that regard and let things cross over as you note. It took Pixar seven years, but why is that an indication for how Marvel and SW will be handled? I won't believe it's less likely until I'm given a reason to.

Some of those images have a Reaction Command sitting atop the battle menu. Fuck this shit.

They're not reaction commands like you know them to be in KHII. I think they're just shortcuts to specials attacks.

e.g. If my sloppy Japanese from years ago serves me well, I think in the pic of Sephiroth battle, it's Sonic (??)

The original fourth command is now used as a reaction commands (Open, Examine, Sonic Blade, Ars Arcanum, etc.) The fourth bar is now for summons.

Well, there's really not that much crossover with the different worlds of KH, so KH would be ideal for that. They could have a Toy Story world with Toy Story characters and that's that.

Also, there was news this week about a new "Roxas Diary", more secret reports (not surprising) as well as the inclusion of an in-game encyclopedia. Guess they're really trying to explain everything.

Are they going to add a link to that Kingdom Hearts google doc?

Wonder if they changed the health bar to match the rest of the series.

That would be great. It was so fun to hit sephiroth and his health not go down.

Speaking of sephy, they better replace that horrid KH1 VA with the current guy.

You still have Donald/Goofy, not to mention Sora et al. themselves, crossing over.

Pixar IP at least has some chance of being in KHIII, but Marvel or Star Wars? Absolutely not.

Disney Infinity isn't even a story-driven game. They've been very careful to avoid any crossover on a narrative level.

I hope not, marvel and Star Wars don't fit into KH thematically imo

Pixar would be interesting in terms of artistic direction. Would they make Sora & co. fit into the Pixar world? Or would they make said world match with Sora & co.'s models? You would most likely have something à la Tron.

I always enjoyed the Hundred Acre Wood as some sort of sanctuary to the (at times) dark story of the first and love to go just do random stuff, can't wait to go back there again! Battle on Hook's ship looks great too!

Be nice if KH3 was made with SE's Luminous Engine. Then we could have a Pixar world with Pixar-quality graphics? You never know...

Skip scene is confirmed, right?

Apparently in Final Mix you still had to watch the scene once before you were allowed to skip. That would be asinine.

Have the confirmed if it will use the camera controls from KH2?

Yes

People assume Toy Story for Pixar, and it's reasonably possible, but remember that Toy Story requires licensing (IIRC) for some characters, like Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.

I would think The Incredibles would be more likely. Or Monsters, Inc.

Woody and buzz had 3d models programmed inside kh2's code if that counts for anything.
