Anyone else thinking Last of Us will go cross gen?? If it launches this year, isn't it possible? It seems bad for business to launch this game so close to the PS4 reveal.
No ND already has their hands completely full with the PS3 version.

It would be a waste of time and money to port it.

It's not really that, it's more of showing the bias that Sony would put into a press release.

"Company X are innovators in the industry...Product X was a technological marvel when it launched..."

Companies love to gush about how awesome they are, which is reasonable since they want people to buy their products. Language like the one I quoted from the original article isn't something you should put into an actual news story unless you're quoting a source.

The only point I really wanted to make is that I think bits read like an press release, meaning that Sony is essentially confirming for us that the PS4 will be revealed. I didn't doubt this for a moment, but now we have another source to back up the initial claim.

You have to be working really hard to find any bias in that single line. Really, really hard.

Most tech journalists would agree with the idea that PS3 was a technological marvel when it was launched just on the basis of Blu-ray, and the Cell processor. But really, even HDMI was a big deal. Hell, anybody who was following the supply channel at the time knows how dicey it was for Sony just to have enough diodes for the Blu-ray drives at launch, that tech was so new. Supply channel junkies would also know that it was not a slam-dunk for Sony to do the HDMI out either. You may forget all this stuff was being debuted in the box when HDTV had less than 20% market penetration, and HDMI was just rolling out as a (still rapidly changing) standard. There's no bias saying it was a technological marvel, if you follow the development of Home Theater tech.

No chance. That game is completely designed around maxing out the Cell architecture. It would be incredibly difficult to port it over.

It comes out in May which I find kinda a low blow since it will be PS4 hype from the 20th

Hmmmmmm dunno if it will effect sales.

But I'll tell you something, I have known some people sell their consoles when ever a new one is announced, happened with xbox and wii when xbox 360 and Wii u were announced. And as stupid as that sounds, I wonder of sales will change

I'm still getting the last of us day 1 :D

Elios what about you?

Anything interesting to say from your side?

No, I've heard that there will be surprises with new IPs (it won't be just an other flood of the usual sequels) and that developers were getting ready to have playable demos for E3. Nothing specific.
But this (the 20th February announcement) was total surprise to me and I'm really enjoying it :D

Ah that's actually really interesting info.

New games are always welcome!

Is it just me or is the O featured more prominently than the other button symbols in that trailer? Anyone think Orbis will be the official name?

I'm all giddy. I was excited for the Wii U but the new PS and new Xbox rolls out the next generation. Was already planning on dialing back my game purchases this year. Now I definitely need to in order to get some new hardware this holiday.

Naw... It's not terrible, but it's not really appealing in any way. It's not cool, it's not edgy, it's not clever... I'm sure they can come up with something better.

Oh God I hope so. PS4 x UC4.
Ehh, Uncharted doesn't do much for me. It's not bad, just not exciting. I feel like Naughty Dog's talents are wasted on the franchise.

Don't forget that Kaz Hirai isn't the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment anymore, Andrew House is.
So he won't be the host, just like Stringer wasn't the host of Playstation conferences in the past :D
Still of course PS4 is a very important product for the whole company and Kaz is still strictly linked to the gaming side of it, so he will be there making his speech about PS4, probably talking and introducing the biggest innovations that it brings.

So do you think they might show the actual hardware or just talk about their philosophy when it comes to next gen and have people wait until E3 for the hardware and games?

It's finally happening! At long last the next generation is about to begin!
This is gonna be my first next generation reveal/launch on GAF, looking forward to the meltdowns.

Didn't the original release of the PS3 just come with composite AV cables?

This thing better be awesome. I really want to see Sony do something intelligent and sleek and innovative. Unleash the R&D hounds! Enough of this timid, us-too nonsense.
