Well when a studio created to make a specific game and the game fails in most ways, can't say anyone should be surprised.

In the past year, Sony has nearly destroyed Eat Sleep Play, Nihilistic, Sanzaru, The Workshop, Lightbox, Idol Minds and now Superbot.

What a stupid thing to say. Sony is not without fault, especially when it comes to advertising. But most of these companies have themselves to blame the most for their downfall.

And how the heck did Sanazru get a mention there? Their game isn't even out yet

SCEA should market these games but some of these games are going to bomb no matter what. They need to focus on a key franchises and IP's. Also bring back Syphon Filter.

I know people blame marketing on every game failure, but maybe this just wasn't what people wanted.

I dare say that if you want to make a game like this and can't get Crash, Cloud, Lara Croft, etc., you shouldn't even bother making it. You definitely shouldn't replace them with Cole, Cole, and Sir Dan Fortesque.

Sir Dan was a great choice as far as pulling from PS1. I was so happy they picked him. Cole had to be in the game, too. (Though I agree two Coles is stupid).

I wanted to play it, but really didn't see a character I really liked. They missed the ball on not having some characters there. I'm still shocked to see 0 Final Fantasy characters. Um, the games started on the PS1.

Yes. Final Fantasy 7 was the 1st game in the series.

Wow, that's pretty awful.

maybe their next game might actually be funded a bit

There's not going to be a next game, full article makes it sound like the end of Superbot.

We've heard from one source that as a result of Sony's decision, SuperBot will have to shut down. We've reached out to the studio for comment and will update should we hear back.

which pretty much refutes Sony's statement about this being an amicable split.

Sony tried to have a diverse offering of games and we all saw how that went. Went Shuei Yoshida mentioned that he was going to focus on few titles (ala Microsoft) this was kind of a given that the middling Sony offerings were going to disappear.

And here's the downside to having all these decent exclusives that don't sell. It sucks for the people working on it but gamers have benefited for the most part.

Awful news. Makes me sad. I picked up PSABR and I'm getting Sly 4. PSABR wasn't perfect but it didn't deserve the kind of vapid marketing that Sony threw at it.

God, this is awful. The game may have not sold that great, but the men and women who developed the game must feel crushed. They landed a deal with Sony to develop a Smash-esque fighter, all the hype around it and bam! They lost their partnership. Such a terrible thing. Does this mean there will not be a Playstation Allstars Battle Royal 2?

Sly Cooper 4 is being sent to die this week also. Sad to see such events happen.

Haha, I was a big fan of the old Sly Cooper games on the PS2 but I didn't even know that it was coming out tomorrow.

If I, a person who follows up on gaming news everyday, didn't know, then I'm pretty sure that people who don't follow up on game news don't know either.

Goodness Sony... why are you so against advertising your products? Mind boggling.

None of these games should´ve ever been developed. And that clearly is Sonys fault.

What happens to those companies if Sony decides not to fund those games? Don't they just go out of business sooner?

Was LightBox in line for the next Call of Duty before Sony came in with Starhawk or something?

Yeah, um, everyone saying "they should have had FF characters" or "they should have had Crash", read something about the development of this game.

It's not that easy.

I don't really think that was Superbot's fault though. More to do with the appeal of a Sony character based brawler.

As much as I like my PS games their characters aren't strong enough to emulate a Smash Bros title.

Super bot made a bad game. It was a competent fighter but thats only part of a crossover game. Compare any of the smash bros. or vs. capcom series to PS all stars.

Sly 4 is releasing on the back of sly 1-3. so if that sells and people want more (or because of the HD collection... don't want more), I don't see how anyone can pin it on marketing. Sly 1-3 is the best marketing sly 4 can get.

Joke post? Sly Cooper Collection came out over 2 years ago, and that means Sony shouldn't market the new one? Please explain to me how this works.

I'm sure Sony will try again, it'll just be under the behest of another developer.

... and Team ICO goes unpunished with nothing to show this entire gen.

I have images of them running about trying to hide their work so as to pretend they've not got anything to release.

All of the developers listed got no or barely any marketing. I mean this is besides the quality. It is really depressing.

Not to mention there should be some focus on publishers working with developers. Especially when they are outsourcing IPs; Sony should be the expert.

wait, Idol Minds shut down? Pretty sure they're still working on Ratchet & Clank Deadlocked HD? Unless did miss something? Along with Sanzaru being mentioned too? wtf

Nihilistic though, man that studio dig their own grave.

Then, as I said, the game shouldn't have been made.

Smash Bros. is a fun game but the initial draw is the characters.

Nobody wants to play a fighter as Fat Princess or Killzone dude. And I like both of those games.

This is pretty terrible.

Nihilistic destroyed themselves with fucking terrible games. Sanzaru isn't even dead yet. Idol Minds has really never shown a degree of competency. Superbot did a terrible job with PSABR and Lightbox made a game nobody wanted.

Everybody was pissing their pants over the rumored "Starhawk" for like a year or two. I still don't get why that didn't resonate with their market. I guess people just thought Warhawk was better and stuck to that but I don't see why.

In some of those cases, Sony reneged on contracts for multiple games and/or post-launch DLC support after games they didn't market bombed.

That'd definitely include Lightbox, at least.

Sucks for the people who lost their jobs

But if it does not sell, there is nothing you can do.

I wonder where these orders come from, i doubt SCEA directly made these decisions, has to come from higher ups in Japan who are just looking at raw numbers and making decisions, after all that is how it most likely is

I'd have to think that Sanzaru made money for them, since the only game they worked on prior to Sly 4 was porting over the first three for the HD collection.

Did it sell enough to make it profitable though? Those were pretty extensive remakes.

Dang. Hope Superbot isn't impacted too much by this.
