NPD January 2013 Sales Results [Up7: Wii U 57K (CNET), Vita ~35K, PS3 201K]

Give the thing some time, it just came out not too long ago, yea it had a horrific month and it's not looking good but let the games start coming in and let's see what happens.

Straight up bullshit. I played DMC4 the day before starting DmC. 4 is the inferior product in every way, shape, and form. 3 certainly has the most complex combat system of any of the games, but style switching still feels like a clumsy gimmick.

Wow.

This shit is absolutely amazing.

Sorry but this "opinion" doesn't even deserve a reasoned responce.

So many people were upset (me included) when Sega announced it had stopped production of the Dreamcast, it was such a cherished gaming system, and within a 2 year span it had built an outstanding library.

But I can't help but sit here, as a Wii U owner, and think if Nintendo came out and said they were stopping the production of the Wii U that not very many people would really care.

The system, least from a library standpoint, just doesn't seem to have the potential that most new consoles have... the limitless expectations one has when a new console launches just isn't there. I can't put my finger on it, but to me at least, the Wii U already feels like it's washed up.

Its been out 3 months, Nintendo hasnt even put out their real WiiU efforts and we havent even seen what the other next gen systems, to say its washed up already is going a bit too far.

Which system stands a better chance of a comeback, the wiiu or vita? I still think wiiu can make a comeback while I think the vita is dead.

This saddened me especially. In my opinion Namco schooled everyone else in how to make a good port.

You know, I didn't even realize this was on the Wii U, and I've had one since launch day. I've never seen it. And it's a good port, you say? I'll pick it up, since I don't own it elsewhere.

real talk, I did a triple take reading that post.

As in I saw it, looked away thought I imagining shit, saw it again, looked away again because I have to be tripping, then saw it again

It was some Looney Tunes shit

honestly, I think this quite possibly the most insane defence of DmC that I have read yet on the entire Internet. I'm absolutely impressed. Not even "The feel of culture" was this left field.

I'd just say that I have respect for Ninja Gaiden Black, but saying it has "better combat flow" or is superior in any way to Devil May Cry's endlessly flexible and more freeform approach to combat just says it all about what I can think about how he feels DmC compares to other DMC games. His opinion, while I respect it, is simply not one that I can ever take seriously on the subject because he's clearly on a different planet from me.

Style switching a "clumsy gimmick" is so inherently wrong that I feel it must have been like he was possessed by Tameem for a second or something. Honestly this specific aspect of his comment is more bonkers than even ezekial45 has ever been.

It just feels that way to me. I've bought every console at or around launch since the Dreamcast. The Wii U is the only console that I've felt has very little potential... usually buying a new console is exciting, nothing but years of exciting releases, and innovations to look forward to.

The Wii U doesn't feel that way to me, hopefully i'm wrong.

On the fly style switch a clumsy gimmick....

There are no words. None to describe the fail that I have just witnessed. I am feeling light headed...

I bet there are people here that were waiting for the Wii U to sell less than Vita so they can bust out that GBA>PS3 gif but this time updated to Vita>Wii U.
But hey, at this rate it can still happen!

I play Ninja Gaiden for it's ridiculous difficulty challenge.

I play DMC for it's combo and serviceable difficulty challenge.

Apples and oranges really.

You know, I can think of a bigger fail that showed up in this very thread

something something 55k something something

But yeah. That statement is nuts.

No reason they can't run that comparison already matching the Vita & Wii U vs. the Wii.
Of course, that would be entirely dependent on Nintendo providing us with Wii sales numbers.

Uggh! When will this myth die? Did we all dream that 'Japanese Garden Demo'?

The "old tech" may not be true, but its horsepower in actual games isn't turning any heads. We've been looking at games as graphically impressive for years. And that is why the myth won't die.

Slightly off-topic, but you know what's amazing? The Xenoblade GIF hasn't been posted yet.

Do you want it to be...?

Regarding X, the NoA trailer for the game has 650k+ views on Youtube. It's a JRPG but it's definitely the type of game that could drive some interest in the Wii U.

That GIF may be all we have of Xenodolls if Wii U hardware sales don't pick up. :(

No way in hell they cancel it. They'd be flushing Wii U interest down the toilet.

I think Criterion is proving it can do much more then 6 year old hardware with them pushing the NFS:MW port.

People have said since before launch that u need to wait for Fall 2013 to see graphical impressive WiiU games build for the hardware.

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.

you have a point, but many people who follow the industry should know better, but choose to ignore info pointing to better, future results and continuingly run down the hardware. (Willful ignorance)

I've been pretty down on the thing but, one thing is certain. Price drop + console pokemon = get out of jail free card

If the Wii U is doing this bad before Orbis and Durango get announced, how bad is it going to do after those two get into full on hype mode? I get that they don't consider them direct competitors, but there has to be some competition there, right? Especially since all signs point to Kinect being a big sticking point.

The things is even if you compare the two directly, his comments still don't make sense. It's like calling a an Onlanding UT a quick time event.

If Nintendo does nothing, it'll still sell a paltry amount for at least a few months. When games start coming out, it'll increase some, but still be pretty bad. Assuming a $50 price cut in August, it'll increase a bit and have something like a DS second Christmas, and probably be on track to undersell GameCube in the U.S. in the first 4 years. It won't die. Nintendo doesn't need big sales to justify keeping a console around. It just won't amount to much in the long run. It may or may not eventually have a library worth looking fondly upon in hindsight.

Nintendo won't be out of the console business even if they do nothing drastic with Wii U. They'll just be shoved back to GameCube-era relevance. Many would be happy with that, for good or ill.

I just hope Nintendo aren't satisfied with that scenario.

I think Creation is proving it can do much more then 6 year old hardware with them pushing the NFS:MW port.

Criterion.

You mean Criterion. And yes, their recent reveal has me interested. Looks nice.

True enough, but although it's becoming clear that although there's a learning curve (duh, but people thought there wouldn't/shouldn't be), it's also clear that it's not the kind of jump that usually occurs between generations of console hardware. From the 360/PS3, I mean, of course. Obviously it's a tremendous leap from the Wii.

I think in this scenario Nintendo pulls a DS, and releases their next console (brand new idea outside of wii branding) as a 3rd pillar. I don't think Nintendo sits in irrelevance in the market for a full 4 years. Hell, if they are working on more of a hybrid machine it could be revealed even earlier than that depending on how the 3DS continues to do in the west post Pokemon. Actually I think Donkey Kong getting ported as fast it is might a sign of things to come on console/handheld relationship.

Ni no kuni breaking 100k is super impressive

Nice. The industry isn't that bad off then.

Maybe NoA could have done some things better, but the fundamental responsibility falls on NoJ. The problems are in the product.

Every time I see someone say about third party games "oh golly, who'd have thunk, people don't want overpriced late ports of current gen games!", I have to think: blame Nintendo. They made an overpriced, late system for current gen games.

Launching the system before the launch of AC3 and BO2 would've been much better. Then those ports could've at least launched same day as the other versions. That launch timing might've been due to NOA, so that may be able to be blamed on them. If they had launched earlier, at least those two ports wouldn't have been "late."

I agree that three months' time isn't long enough in terms of giving Wii U the Old Yeller treatment, but I think that warning flags are justifiably being raised.

"The games are coming": That's nice. When? Hopefully not before too long and hype for new hardware from Sony and Microsoft swallow any enthusiasm for them whole.

"Just wait until (insert game name)": Lots of folks seem overly confident in this scenario, but is it really a given? How confident are we that consumers will drop $350+ for the next Mario Kart? Or the next Zelda (which isn't even new)? Or the next Mario platformer? Sure, they might... but they might not if they are wowed by something else in the meantime.

It's too early to declare anything, but it's also no slam dunk that Nintendo stages another 3DS-style comeback.

At which point Orville and Dodongo will be out to make any wiiU graphics look unimpressive

Higher resolution textures, but fewer people at the same time in a multiplayer session (six instead of eight) - the heart of the game? Not sure I'd call that "much more". And, realistically speaking, we don't know anything about how the game performs: PR likes to talk.
