What is this and what do Ni no kuni and 3ds have to do with each other?
He must have thought Ni No Kuni was a 3DS game.

But because it was mentioned:

- Top selling Vita Western third-party games = COD Declassified, Assasin's Creed III: Liberation. Both > 600K.
- Top selling 3DS Western third-party game = Angry Birds < 500K.

Whoot! Go Vita Go!
:p Revised to make joking nature of post more obvious.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

Whoot! Go Vita Go!

I wouldn't mistake global shipment numbers as NA sell thru numbers

So much disingenuity in this post. You're using worldwide shipped numbers, including bundles, to compare to non-bundled U.S. only sell-through numbers.

for one, it's called 'ni no kuni'

it's also a jrpg, on one system, and those things haven't done too hot on consoles this year. it lacked a big marketing campaign too.

It didn't get much marketing, huh. I assumed it got a bit because I don't remember anybody lumping it in with Allstars and Sly (with all the recent talk of Sony's lack of marketing on podcasts).

I guess breaking a 100k is quite a feat, in that case.

Good for Ni no Kuni. Bad that at that level it's 7th on the individual SKUs.

The industry is not looking good right now even if you ignore Nintendo's fuck ups. You can blame it on generation fatigue, but if MS actually goes through with this used games mess we could be headed for a crash or a least the death of many more studios.

Give the thing some time, it just came out not too long ago, yea it had a horrific month and it's not looking good but let the games start coming in and let's see what happens.

What Games?

They have nothing to show for

E3 is in June... they will announce all the heavy hitters (hopefully), but then how long until those come out

From now till E3, there's jack shit coming out for it

If Microsoft (and maybe Sony) goes through with the rumored stuff, I'll be hoping for a crash. For them to have a successful console would be far worse.

What's really sad is, if they do, and they deservedly go down in flames, I don't think a lesson will be learned. They, the publishers, and all the analysts, etc will probably just chalk it up to phones and tablets stealing the market.

100k is just a guess based on Ninokuni's ranking right? Would like more accurate numbers. Still, 100k+ for a JRPG in the US that released late in the month is excellent.

ni no kuni is published by namco bandai. it just happens to be exclusive to the ps3 (in the us. there is a ds version as well)

The one thing I don't like about generation fatigue is that it basically means that people are tired of playing/buying the games coming out now outside of certain established IPs(which aren't safe either) and even if we get better graphics that doesn't really mean that the games are going to be any more fun. I don't see sales going up in the long run simply because we have new consoles.

HOLY FUCK WiiU!

I thought it would be a little further into the year before we saw numbers this bad.

I concede Ani. WiiU may actually have a worst first year than the PS3 did.

If Microsoft and Sony both pursue preventing used games, perhaps.

If Sony prevents a viable alternative then use of used games will simply become a USP. If people care enough they'll take the alternative.

I'm not sure that we're looking at a case of arrogance here. Maybe ineptitude... or a lack of preparedness... but arrogance?
Perhaps in the assumption that "second screen/tablet/off-screen/asymmetric" would be the new motion control. Although that could be ineptitude rather than arrogance.

Pikmin 3 is the only game that could push the WiiU sales slightly over 100k until august/october (what was the release date for WW HD again)?

It definitely isn't arrogance. Ineptitude sounds about right.

Arrogance is definitely involved. Nintendo thought they could pull another Wii (minimum effort, maximum profit) just on brandname and another gimmick alone.
Good to see that this attempted rip off backfired heavily.

Holy shit! Wii U is Dreamcasting! or... Virtua Boying!

Nintendo is screwed. They'll limp along and probably hold off the big games save a few until sony and MS release their new consoles. Can they afford to di anything else at this time?

They can probably do with a price cut and maybe they should. They console was overprices from the start. And no fucking software. "We learned the 3DS lessons" my ass.

Sony and MS would be wise to look at these numbers if they're thinking their own launches are gonna go smoothly. The market has changed.

Maybe i was a bit optimistic here but i think pikmin 3 could sell at least decently if they combine it with a price cut and some marketing.

i was thinking x could honestly do the trick. x is probably at least a year out, though.

game & wario is probably april, wii fit u in may, and pikmin in june, july, or august. who knows if they have anything else ready.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Ninokuni doing more than 100k in less than 2 weeks is very good (out on Jan., 22nd, datas through Feb., 2nd. It could be a very good sign for Fire Emblem too (even if FE is still suffering shortages :lol)

Wii U is a freaking nightmare. What's really surprising is the giant drop compared to December. Imho, consumers have become much more impatient and frenetic: they don't have time to buy a console at that price for future content announced, but with unknown release periods, they want content as soon as possible. Otherwise, there are many other alternatives right now much more valuable than Wii U, and so people don't care about it. In the past, we would have never seen such big drops for suffering consoles, but consecutive drops month after month. PS4 / Durango need to bring appealing content since the launch, otherwise they'll really crater after launch. Not in the same way as Wii U, that'e impossibile...otherwise the market is fucked

I think they should´ve squeezed some HD ports in here and there, Donkey Kong Country Returns is released on the wrong platform. Don´t know if they could get anything ready in a few months though.
