First Look at the New Spider-Man Costume

Its better than ASM Costume but its entirely unremarkable.

Say what you want about the other superhero movies but the nolan trilogy and the Iron man trilogy have had diverse and decent looking costumes.

The new pic is just standard spiderman.
Ironic sense Spiderman has had more costumes than both of them I'm comics.

I'm sure they'll pay it no mind, but the belt from the game really addressed my problems with the bizarre unfinished bottom half feeling of the Amazing cossie:

Also makes a lot of sense since Spidey has his own variety of gidjets like tracers, and extra web-fluid that would need some storage space that isn't MYTHICAL BUTTCRACK STORAGE.

I woulda been happy at them just changing the eyes to the bigger proper white ones really.

Loving the eyes on the costume! A big improvement over the yellow lenses from ASM, I was never a fan of them. The new costume does look maybe a bit too professional imo but I like the costume so far.

This one almost makes the ASM suit look better in retrospect. The first now has a slighty cool "prototype" feel to it.

The rest of Amazing Spiderman was still shit though.

Spidey is supposed to be lanky. Garfield in costume is the closest we've gotten on film to the comicbook version.

The lanky thing only works in comics because they draw a shitload of muscle definition. In the movie he just looks like a pussy.

They should just say fuck it and let the eyes emote. Don't even explain it, just let it happen.

That'd actually be awesome, if they CG his eyes to emote. It'd be one step closer to the comics. Not sure how many would be able to suspend their disbelief though.

I think so, too. Waaaay too carbon copied, specifically the spider emblem.

That said, I love how the lenses are a callback to Bagely's art;

Yep! I won't lie, I've always wanted the Bagley eyes in the 2002 costume! Still, I thought we were done with the protruding rubber webs.

Man, reading this thread for some reason reminds me why I like Spider-Man so much: he's just so fun. Even The Avengers aren't as fun, to me, as Spider-man

The old costume felt like a good representation of the original movie; needlessly edgy, drab and awful.

Hopefully the new one will be a good representation of it's sequel because this looks infinitely superior in every sense of the word. I'm surprised by how not bad this is.

Kinda looks like the original trilogy suit. I like it, but too bad its not more different.

I like the first ASM spider logo more.

Why is this even a complaint?

How different do you want it? They went different with the ASM and it got shit on. Granted, it grew on me over time... but the design is iconic. It doesn't NEED to be messed with too much.

For most, the "Bagley" look is THE iconic style for that character. The mask looks perfect.

It's not either or. There is an in-between. They could have used a similar rubber texture from ASM but less pronounced, combined with the new eyes and webbing. Just seems a bit uncreative apart from the new lenses, but we'll have to wait and see it in action or at least full body shots, first.

Man, those eyes are frigging perfect. Not the weird mirrors from the Raimi films, and much bigger and no yellow tinge from the Webb flick.

Still concerned about the amount of villains though.

I almost think it's necessary at some points. A lot of the emotion just gets lost because we're forced to just assume what he's feeling based on the context of the scene. But we're still just staring at a static mask. But you're right, not many would be able to just accept that. Though they never actually explained Rorschachs mask in the movie.

With that said, it's kind of amazing that such a small tweak in the eyes allowed it to differentiate itself so much from Raimi's iteration.

It's a movie based on a comic book.. one with an iconic suit that you don't have to mess with. It's an already perfect design.

Raimi had it mostly right, as does this. The Spalding look was awful. Took too many liberties with the costume.

I agree with whoever said just let the eyes emote. Never explain it. Just run with it, it would be great. And then he doesn't have to take his mask off mid fight at the end.

And people complain Peter never kept his mask on. Masks are not helpful in film.

What I meant was textures, materials, etc. All that can be fiddled and altered with while still retaining the iconic suit. That hexagonal cloth texture or whatever is not part of an iconic anything.

am i the only one here who loved AMS? this costume redesign is just icing on the cake for the next one, imo.

He usually keeps in a belt under his "shirt."

NO ARMPIT WEB

NO TICKET

just kidding. I always hated that. love the new big eye pieces.

I've always loved the armpit webs...

Tobey was always really... bulky for the costume. I think he went a little overboard in building muscle mass for the film. Spiderman's always seemed skinny-muscly to me, and that's why this looks better I think. That, and there's an actor that actually looks and acts like Peter Parker under the mask, that helps.

However, Electro and Rhino are still the worst choices for villains ever. It's clear Sony doesn't give two shits and is just wrapping the IP in a headlock so it can't be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

the toys were pretty ugly too

instead of highlighting modern, minimalistic character design, they looked like they weren't painted enough.

If I remember correctly it was actually the movie team that pushed for the inclusion of the belt.

About taking of the mask, I thought the only time in basically the whole movie when it would've been appropriate he actually left it on. After the Lizard fight in the sewers when he is soaking wet, I know I would've taken it off.

Quality of the game aside, the design of the suit in Edge of Time was pretty neat.

If they make the eyes emote, it would be like them completing accepting just how much of a fuck up their 'realistic' take was with the first movie.

Not that I have anything against that. It would be great to have a more cartoony Spider-Man film.
