Here's what Japanese people think of the Xbox One

Lol batsuichi. That's going to stick well.

Thanks op for making this thread. I was wondering what the Japanese audience felt about the X1 reveal. As a Japan GAF member this is all too relevant to me.

Microsoft really seems to be pushing the system for US NFL watching audiences only. I agree with one of the comments that Microsoft has pretty much ignored the Japanese market this time around.

The anti used have policy is the final nail in the coffin as well seeing as how the used market in Japan is friggin' huge. This will bite Microsoft in the ass if they don't bring real games to the take as Japan pretty much couldn't give a fart about US sports outside of the texas rangers and the Yankees. Games rarely get price cuts here and launch a good 10-20 bucks above US msrp. Because of the high cost of software here, being able to flip a used game towards another one is very common and expected. Hell I do it as well. 6900 +yen for For za Horizon? Lol no.

This whole reveal was a mess. I really have no reason to hold interest in the x1 as I live in Japan as well. All that tv stuff and app shit was always region blocked and Japanese xbox Live had diddly squat for entertainment apps outside of their sparsely updated dashboard. Honestly by the way this reveal went down it seems like not only Japan but the rest of the world was snubbed for the US market. What a waste of momentum and potential from the alright 360 launch. Microsoft has lost its focus and it's way...

Well, I posted these in another thread earlier before Kotaku :p. These are also reactions translated from 2ch.

"Are you fuckin serious they're gonna sell us this shit-box?"

"Are there even people nowadays who buy games that you can only play at home?"

"Mario, FF, Dragon Quest, Pokemon, Monster Hunter, Puzzle & Dragon.
What games does Xbox have?"

"Looks like I'll go with PS4."

"Anyhow it only has FPS, I guess."

"At any rate I wonder if there'll be hardware problems"

With the current partnership relation Nintendo has developing with Namco, they should totally steal the Idolmaster franchise and seal the coffin for Microsoft in Japan.

I find these 2 really interesting.

To be fair the Japanese wouldn't buy an Xbox if it was made by Yoshida himself.

If I was Don I'd completely abandon the market. You tried twice, no one cared. Stop wasting money there.

There is absolutely no way Bandai Namco would put Idolmaster on the Xbox One at this point instead of PS3/PS4. In what universe would that ever be a good decision?

It's Namco, good decisions shouldn't be used in the same sentence.

Got 99 problems and only one of them is a waifu
I would buy a Xbox One for my waifu.

I'm sure it would be ported to PS4 though, so no need to buy one.

Interesting.

Made me wonder............what is the GAF equivalent in Japan? Be interesting to see how they react ala here and what they think at times.

MS made great efforts at Xbox 360's launch to appeal japanese gamers, both with the console design and the development of japanese titles. Japan answer was very cold, so we can't blame them for totally dopping the ball over there. I'll be surprised if Xbox One will even be sold in Japan.

Agreed. It'll be released there, but that's about it. I am curious if XB1 will outsell the XB1 (the OG XBox), which sold 500k there IIRC.

I will be very, very suprised if X1 gets a real Idolmaster title. Maybe some final 2nd Vision spinoff, but I expect the 3rd wave to start on 3DS (just like how 2nd Vision started on DS), and move to PS4 for the numbered entry (after how well Imas 2 sold on PS3).

I don't get it...

Isn't X used to mark incorrect answers in the US too? It is here in the UK...

X for a wrong answer, Tick for a correct one.

I always think it's so weird reading Japanese criticism translated into English. I imagine some sort of epic poem about the console's fall from grace... but really it's just like a Neogaf post.

"I wonder how Americans are gaming at home"

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about American culture (I'm an expert), but watching TV while playing games at the same time is a huge part of it.

I never understood this. How can you fully pay attention to a game while watching TV? Is it that mind numbing you can just divide your attention and win? Everything I play takes skill and coordination.

Hey, look! Japan's only PC gamer has been spotted in the wild!

(trollface.jpg) I love you, guys. Really.

I doubt MS will got for an exclusive Idolmaster again. After their RPG push and some niche genres like shooters in Japan the 360 still didn't gain much traction. Their "they didn't think of Japan" is spot on. But here's the thing: Why should MS care about Japan? They failed to gain traction twice in that market. Their biggest market is America with the second biggest being Europe. Japan isn't "relevant" to Microsoft's focus anymore. Which is a shame because them courting Japanese developers could have MS get some quirky or interesting titles on their system. I still love Phantom Dust and mourn MS killing the X-box 180's live servers because that absolutely killed the community for that game. And MS is sitting on that IP despite the creative lead willing to do a sequel. It was like one of the more interesting things Japan put out that generation and was "Only on X-box."

I hear if you play Tomb Raider, press forward, and watch a full run of Game of Thrones, you will have reached the ending credits by the time you switch back.

Idolm@ster? Seriously?

Microsoft did try to put some effort into capturing the japanese market with the 360 such as securing 2 exclusive RPGs from Hironubu Sakaguchi but it really got them nowhere..

To be honest, the Japanese market isn't nearly as important as it used to be anyway.

You cannot, unless it's a very slow-paced game, that's why that's both a good and a very bad thing as far as PC gaming goes. Too many distractions.

Maturity, bitches.
Namco are so cheap they'll just make iM@S3 for PS3 and Wii U so they don't have to make new models.

Haha I love hearing what 2ch has to say. It's always interesting to see what games they're excited about. Don't they call xbox fans pigs or something over there? It's something really insulting.

I checked FOK.nl(biggest Dutch forum). It's pretty much the same reaction as on Neogaf, so there's no point in translating.

In here (PT) there's rage all over the place because what it was shown is only good in the US. Social media sites are taking a hit with negativity, I almost feel bad for them. Almost but after yesterday It's clear where their Target lives, and it's not in Europe.

Why would PG especially do an Xbox exclusive? I figure most Japanese developers will be focusing on PS4, with larger companies like CAPCOM going the extra mile for concurrent PC releases (for better or worse).
