I tuned in to see the box and the OS/featureset. I understand they want to make the focus on games at E3. But I really like what I saw as far as the hardware, OS, and featureset goes. Don't give a shit about sports, Forza, CoD, or TV, but the deep Kinect integration to the OS (as well as the pack-in) and sane application management looks leagues ahead of what's available on the 360. The architecure panel later was awesome, I'm a huge fan of Microsoft's work with Azure and the improvements to the backend and OS-machine hypervisors was also impressive to me. All the hubbub about used games or online authentication doesn't effect or bother me since I rarely buy used games and I have a reliable, persistent internet connection at home. I also just renewed my Xbox Live Gold sub, so that'll carry over, too. I'm in love with the new controller. Although I'm in love with the PS4 controller, too.

Cool minor things that I wasn't expecting: 15 MS Studios games year 1, 8 new IP. That at least has my interest piqued for E3. Remedy's new concept sounds great, and the Halo TV show should also be interesting.

Microsoft told me not to expect games, so I didn't. I got an inside look at the actual hardware, box, architecture, etc. just like they said. Now I await E3 for the games.

Exactly, it's like people expected 20 exclusives to be shown, even though they warned up this is a two-part story. The OS looks good and I like how quick I can go from one thing to the other. The kinect video after that showed it works in a completely dark room is pretty awesome too. FUD was great so I don't see how as Spielberg series can be anything but cool. And like you my current 360 hasn't been unplugged from the internet in years (as i'm sure is the case with many people) so it's not that big of a deal to me.

Personally i expected something like what we got, though not so badly presented, and with some exclusive footage (after i heard the show was just 1 hour in length).
I had hoped that we'd get some in-game exclusive footage though, details and design philosophy, and some gamer-centric features (i knew MS was going for "everyone" audience but still showing something for gamers).

Unfortunately it seems there ain't anything for people who are gamers-only. I guess that snap switch or whatever it was is cool but i'm not going to use internet with the damn controller and Kinect, i'll just have my laptop nearby.
PS4 definetly seems ideal for a gamer like me, assuming it gets interesting exclusives (that said, i probably don't mind buying it just for third party games, since i'm not big on PC gaming).

EDIT Microsoft seemingly ignoring non-Americans doesn't help. They've done too much of that... uh, last-gen (technically, we're at "next gen" already due to WiiU) and they were already losing me as a customer due to that. And paid multiplayer.

I'm not sure why they did a worldwide reveal and targeted the US with it. I feel like whoever did the organisation of this event believes no other countries exist. I mean even dropping a line like "We're also looking to bring shows and channels from countries in the EU and Japan in the near future" or confirming that they also had already obtained programs and channels from outside the US. Also letting the show be closed by a third party game, even if it is the biggest game around, seemed silly. It did just as much for the PS4 as it did for the Xbox One.

Announcing new IPs was good, and telling us how many games were coming on release was great though. Do some good at E3 MS.

I'm not saying I have expected 20 games either, especially with E3 only a few weeks away, I'm saying I expected something better than that.

How are you going to have Major Nelson say, revealed a console without revealing much, and then almost doing the same?

Sure they showed us their actual console, but unlike Sony, they didn't really tell us what was in the hardware. You had multiple sites and gaming side guessing over and over what's actually inside the box.

Then, after the numerous months and rumors of always online, no used games, employees getting fired, I figured they'd at least announce something about it. Instead, it wasn't clarified for 7 hours later, different sources saying something else. Xbox support saying one thing, Phil Harrison another, major nelson something else etc.

All the information has been a clusterfuck. Instead we got fancy buzzwords and a flash but no substance presentation. Hey guys, get hyped after 8 years of xbox 360, share your thoughts, share your gaming moments, everyone in gaming assemble and watch as we talk about television and the creation of our new television studio division and your xbox is the new watercooler.

Almost 90% of the information we've gotten today has come outside of the reveal or presentation itself. Most of it is coming from gaming press hounding guys like Phil and trying to get gin to clarify.

I'm interested to see the headsets and/or how they connect with Box (bluetooth?). I can't be using Kinect for everything.

Jesus Kinect microphones are so bad I hope not.

Moving back towards Halo. Tashi, some of the maps are experiencing that issue of objects not spawning. Onyx has a few pieces missing and I can confirm the ramp missing at the sniper spawn on that other map. I think you know what's causing it so we should see a fix soon?

Also Slayer Pro was great. Shame to see that the Carbine has a Plasma Pistol in the loadout but no one seems to be using it yet. Guess it's because they have not looked at the loadout properly because it's a carbine lol. Had a GREAT run in a Hog on Settler which was very refreshing. Sadly I only got in two games, and then I had a power cut. Hoping to get more Slayer Pro in tonight. I'd like to see how hard it becomes to take on a Banshee or Tank in Pro.

Its been freaking great playing a match where people aren't suicide sticking every second, or using plasma pistols like crazy. Got a killing frenzy with a hog earlier on longbow. Something that would have been so tough in normal infinity slayer.

All they need to do is put radar on, even though I love no radar, and you'll see so many people pick it over infinity. It's been great playing with limited loadouts, resupply grenades, static map weapons etc. Perfect time that the Red X came back as well.

Urgh. That won't stay a secret for long.

Slayer Pro supposed to be the panacea to Infinity's vehicle no-go... Put plasma pistols in the loadouts. Why?

Read the quote guys, even with expecting something different than games and a little interest in apps most of their stuff will not be there for non-US peeps.

That is a big thing, especially if you choose a presentation time at which every country can watch it comfortably.

They could have shown sooooo many interesting apps, or hardware things. Nope Cable TV bullshit.

Also I atleast expected something like a nextgen montage, teasing something of their new stuff.

And don't give me this shit like "my xbox is always online anyways" Yeah good luck playing with Server outages, connection problems causedby the ISP. etc. This are the real problems with always on.

It's looking up for BTB. I'd love to see some Objective, but I can see why 343 are cautious about adding Objective to the most populated playlist they have. They don't want to lose more players. Radar on is something I would like as BTB is a playlist usually full of micless randoms and communication is sparse at best.

I hope 343 realise that they have taken a good turn here and build upon this.

Urgh. That won't stay a secret for long.

I'm hoping it's a temporary fix until they get some weapons on the maps.

So no thought went into putting weapons on the map in lieu of loadout weapon choices? Why release slayer pro as a gametype but only half do it? Prohibiting personal loadouts means they have to provide on map weapons (particularly the plasma pistol) that spawn in a predictable fashion. And this wasn't done because why? Too busy working on the next thing to do this thing properly? I'm surprised they're still half assing it. It's like the 'a more classic Halo will be available from launch in Halo 4' Slayer Pro playlist which had instant respawn, sprint and random weapon drops.

Other advantage of radar in BTB is advance warning for infantry if a vehicle is barreling down on you.

I have no idea what goes through the minds at 343. Don't get me started on Halo 4 pre launch talks.

I neglected to mention that didn't I. Maybe because I like it that way hehehe.

This was an hour long TV spot for an American audience. The expectation is that now they don't have to eat into their hour long E3 presentation with most of that stuff. 15 first party games and none mentioned so far already means that E3 should be very interesting.

I'd like there to be a gameplay demo of sorts followed by a "hey, wasn't that cool? Check this out" as they then demo the recording stuff.

Using Skype completely in the background will allow for cross platform party chat. Someone is browsing Gaf while other people play games? Doesn't matter. I wonder how that will affect party chat. If I don't have Gold, I could just use Skype off-box.

Having a Twitch chat on the snap screen or the mobile Gaf site on the window would be awesome.

Forza 5
Quantum Break

So 13. 7 new IP's and 6 known IP's (Halo has to be one of that 6)

Apparently Phil said that they might not show what Black Tusk has been upto at E3 because it might be too many games announced lol. Ita a thread on gaming side right now.

Also, here is what anandtech sort of pieced together for specs.

This is pretty much why I said E3 is the decider. If Xbox One gets streaming, the twitch chat next to you as you play and stream could be pretty cool. Skyping across platforms is also going to be awesome.

I think that was the best thing about yesterday's conference, if it means that they won't mention TV at their E3 showing at all. I will be quite happy with that.

The only thing that I'm worried about is how powerful the PS4 will be in relation to the XboxOne, given all we know about the two at this time.

Yeah I read that, kind of crazy. They have to show everything that is ready, and not fuel their conference by Third Party stuff, they could finally show the first party dominance

Of course they will also show again some Dashboard stuff and apps with kinect.

Man the spreadsheet really shows how the PS4 is better.

EDIT: just read that there won't be a headset included... so we know Xbox 360 stuff (Controllers etc) doesn't work on it, but what is with Third Party accessoires? Headsets by Astro etc? Will they work on the ONE?

You know what worries me? That non-exclusive 3rd party games won't take advantage of PS4's much more powerful hardware.
I'd prefer Destiny to look as good as it can be...

Yeah they kinda got rid of all the fluff for E3 BUT I'm sure this is a really important aspect of the product for them so they'll be sure to repeat all these non-game details

PS4 is more powerful. MS would have boasted otherwise. Brad from GB had been speaking with people more in tune with spec talk saying that those who are clever about how they use the new box should be able to drastically reduce the perceived tech gap.

I doubt 3rd party titles will take advantage. Its only really going to be the 1st party titles that see the benefit from that.

After talking it over with some buddies Looks like Xbox One might be my console of choice. I like the first party line up better than Sony's and used games are not for me.

I'll get both eventually.

And Sony's 1st party titles have never really appealed to me (indeed, PS1, 2 and 3 never had exclusive games that interested me).

That said, Xbox doesn't have anything really interesting either, other than Halo (360 had Mass Effect 1).

Going to need something to play Destiny on though. Not too keen on paying for multiplayer, not keen on the extra crap Xbone has at all.

EDIT duh, i forgot, there are new IPs coming. Unfortunately, unless there is a space combat sim or epic scifi game like Mass Effect, i don't care.

It wouldn't take much work to offer better framerates and AA on PS4. I think that will be fairly standard tbh.

Regarding the TV show, it feels like they announced it too early; no director, no writer, no cast to announce, no concept art or teaser footage. After the movie fiasco, I'm struggling to convince myself that this is really happening. :(

You announce involvement because that gets the MSM on board. As to development, assuming this is for launch/this year when the One comes out, I figure they must have at least started pre-pro.

Yep. Felt like a hollow announcement. Like it could just as easily be cancelled or be as bad as Terra Nova.

Personally, I didn't really see anything "great" about the X1 reveal(aside from the Halo TV series), but I feel the same way about the PS4 reveal. Right now, I am still leaning toward X1 because I already have tons of time invested into my gamertag and profile and stuff, and I simply enjoy Xbox exclusives a ton more. Halo and Gears of War, mostly. Forza is hella fun as well. God of War is only so much fun and Uncharted, Killzone, and Resistance are simply uninteresting to me.

Leggo Microsoft E3. Show something good.

But getting a bit more on topic, what does everybody expect from the Halo series? ASIDE FROM "omg itz gunna suk!"

I would love it if they could turn it into some type of Band of Brothers/Black Hawk Down/Saving Private Ryan type of series. Spartan 4s, ODSTs, ordinary Marines, whatever. Just make it cool, 343. Please.

They have to get rid of their disc serial keys and used game policy. I don't mind the always needed kinect or needing to be online once a day.

+Ryse and the teased Rare game
+Black Tusk game

Based on one of the screens during the conference I think we can assume Rare has 2 games(new IP and old IP) and there's also a Crackdown game coming.

Right now I think it's like this,

Halo 2 HD
Crackdown
Forza 5
Rare old-school IP
Fable IV
+ 2 existing IPs

Quantum Break
Ryse
Black Tusk's game
Rare's new IP
+ 4 new IPs

Originally, I wanted the orientation of the world itself to change around you so you'd be running along the walls and ceiling on the way out. When it became clear that wouldn't be possible, I worked out the other solution. Btw, here's a protip, if you're particularly clever, you can use the pulses to get through the cave faster. :)
One of the hopes that I have for future serialized content like Spartan Ops is that the window between episodes is longer to give you more time to implement stuff like this. I know time is a developer's worst enemy, but it seems as though your team was really hampered by a short timeline, and to me the mode fell short because of it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my 360 works just fine, so I'm not even going to worry about this XBO/PS4 shit until Destiny gets a release date.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I dig the new 'do, Tashi.

e3 is like two weeks away. I'd wait til then before writing it off

I'm actually kind of interested to see what will be shown off at E3. Games are what matters. If Xbox One has the games I will no doubt buy one at some point and time.

I likely won't be going nextgen for at least 6-12 months after they launch anyways.

I'd put money on Gears going multiplatform this generation. Epic just can't justify the money Microsoft gives for exclusivity against the decline in its brand, especially after the flop Judgment was.

It's already facing intense competition from Destiny, Battlefield, Call of Duty in multiplatform and then will have to compete against the likes of Halo or Killzone in exclusives.

Look how big Bioshock, Mass Effect and other IP's have gotten by going multiplatform.

On an unrelated note, looks like all the comments, gifs, guilted Tashi into shaving his head completely.

E3 or bust. We need a price as well.

So I have read that the new Xbox only works with hdmi cables? If so I'm gonna need to get a new tv and replace my monitor with it. Not entirely a deal breaker but I will miss my small monitor display if I do get a Xbox

The fact headsets aren't included is a deal breaker though - I wouldn't ever want to use kinnect for party chat ever

Seems like the console and accessories could add up to quite a lot

I know you got the answer re: DVI converter but you will need an audio source, DVI is just video. You can run Optical to your TV, Receiver or sound card if you have that.

The X1 is a system like no other, I think it had great potential.
Will wait to cast judgement until E3.

I just wish they'd be a little lenient with who can play what game.
My little brother should be able to play my game with his own accout on my Xbox that I first installed the game onto.

Didn't they say you could share games on the same console?

New Xbox is just...yikes.

Come here, Sony. I'm ready.

It's hard to imagine it was that bad. If Sony announced free online and no used game blocking I am done.

e3 is like two weeks away. I'd wait til then before writing it off

True, games can make all the difference but there is still enough out there to decide this is not for you. If Sony is not doing any of this crap expect to hear from them soon.
