Lightning Returns starts to appear in Los Angeles

Just because you add tech from Versus doesn't make the game automatically better. Tech was never a problem for the XIII games anyways. It has always been level design, characters and story that have always been the big problem for the XIII series.

I remember you claimed Aqua is a better character than lightning. That alone makes me wonder why you would ever hate XIII so much if you thought BBS was remarkable in terms of story and characters.Sorry.

All you have to do is just admit that you find the game interesting, and it wouldn't be so hypocritical. That's all I'm saying. You guys hang on every detail about the game, and clearly are fans on some level.

I just think it's dishonest, if you are interested in the game, to spend all your time convincing others to not try it just because it's the popular thing to say.

It has nothing to do with being remarkable it's just that Aqua is a better character than Lightning.

There are a lot of characters better than Lightning.

Wander, from SotC is a way better character than Lightning and he never says a word.

I find it interesting it got greenlighted. So yes I find the game itself interesting.

Aqua *is* a better character than Lightning, and BBS isn't "remarkable" in that sense but it's still better than FFXIII in that sense.

I'm probably biased, but I think Aqua is a better character than Lightning, easily. I actually loved BBS' story and characters, though. It's probably my favorite game in the series~ I do admit the writing in BBS could have used some work.

That said, I actually don't dislike Lightning as much as some people here do. I don't think she's bad, but I don't think she's good either. She's just.. there. My favorite characters in the XIII series are Noel, Fang, and Vanille (yes, I liked Vanille! lol).

She clearly isn't. She is a one dimensional character who doesn't go through any changes in the story. She is caring and emphatic but that's about it.No other trait of the character is shown nor does she go through any transformation. Also her voice acting maintain the same tone of angst throughout the entire game.

You hate the hallways which in turn made you hate everything.Like everyone else.

No She isn't.She is likeable but extremely flat.

That's because she is. She's a more dynamic character then Lightning. She doesn't complain the entire time like Lightning. She the definition of actual strength. Not Lightning. She's actually likable from the get-go. She's not bland, one dimensional and isn't monotone. She actually has personality.

If anything BbS is extremely consistent with its story and the characters don't say dumb things like:

Main villain: "Kill me so Cocoon can fall"
Lightning: "No. We will defeat you and do exactly what you just asked us to do."

*Cocoon Falls*

Like really? BbS's plot is miles better then XIII.

The XIII and BBS arguments are kind of funny, considering the same person was scenario writer for BBS, XIII and XIII-2.

Final Fantasy XV: Lightning must die.

Please be excited.

I can see the trailer now.

Que trailer music.

She has taken over Final Fantasy.

Fans want it back.

Trailer cuts to each Final Fantasy hero ala-Dissidia fighting her, then cuts to Noctis.

"I will do what no one else can do".

FINAL FANTASY XV: Lightning must die.

She's presented as a caring person but also someone that is tough and strong, without the need of punching everyone and being a bitch 90% of the time . Is a character with way more layers than lightning. Also her internal struggle actually makes sense.

Uh she went through from being a loyal pupil into becoming a real Keyblade Master that makes her own decisions instead of doing whatever Eraqus said. That's a pretty big transformation for a character. And one note? Monotone? Lol. Play the Keyblade Graveyard again and tell me she's those things.

The game had Masaru Oka and Tetsuya Nomura to cancel out Daisuke's writing.

Despite my love for BBS, it doesn't have the best writing. I think the story is great overall, though. Just some of the dialogue wasn't... top form. :p

Same thing kind of applies to the XIII series. I actually found the stories entertaining, but the writing was just... bleh. I still cringe at that "go like an arrow through time and find Serah." line at the beginning of XIII-2. x_x

Does lightning complain all the time ??? At one point did you stop playing the game ? the hanging edge ? Do you realise she helped hope and snow reconcile ? She thought it was important for him to meet his father and recover from his trauma and see where he can go.

She teamed up with fang and forgave her even though she knew fang was the reason Serah is a crystal. She even helped fang fight her Eidolon and did the same with hope."You are not in this ordeal alone , you know" She said that.

In XIII-2 she put everything past her, even her sister for the sake of the world."One thing at a time serah" was her reply when Serah asked if they would unite.

She goes from angry , defeated into calm and passionate and then into determined yet unsure of her fate. She slips into depression in XIII-2 but regains her hope at the end(DLC)

I provided great details about lightning and analyzed her character as quickly as I can.You , however, simply label her as bland, emo , and less dynamic than Aqua without giving any concrete or valid points.

Like I said Aqua is very likeable but extremely flat. She is caring about her friends and that's fine but could you point any other trait ? There are none.

Listing matter of fact statements about Lightning and then giving a Aqua sucks comment does not a argument make.

I thought she was pretty well designed, aesthetically, but her character was kinda whatever... sometimes verging on, "lol are you serious!?".

where ??? I said Aqua is likeable and very warm and that's exactly the only thing that's been presented about her in the game.I played her story twice and I like her very much but she isn't more developed than lightning.

Yeah of course I need to list often ignored facts about the character. I am trying to back up my statements with facts straight from the games , but no one will ever pay attention or admit anything.

I liked her design in XIII, think it was pretty bad in XIII-2, and her outfits in LR have been so ridiculous I want to throw up sometimes.

I'd say she is more female squall than female cloud.

I only played 1/3 of FFXIII so that's what I'm basing my opinion on. I haven't even seen the other game... I did see the art for LR and I thought her armor was pretty gross. Still like the look of the character though if you ignore the attire.

Its funny to see people reacting to the LightningReturnsGamestop image as if its a recent joke. I mean its years old already. Shows how much people care about the game here. :(

Also that "stop liking what I dont like" image would fit perfectly in this thread right now, wtf. >_>

May I ask how Lightning develops again? It's been a while but the only noticeable development I recall is from maybe 1-2 instances with Hope.

Another thing that always bothered me was the 180 degree turn she pulled with XIII-2.

Her endgame mindset was making her own fate, not being chained to it because the writer said so.

Edit: If you are going to prove that Lightning is a better developed character you should give an elaborate compare and contrast between the two. For fairness.

Honestly... I got about half-way through FF13. I bought FF13-2 for a few bucks but haven't played it. So I'm not a fan, but neither am I going to say that I hate everything this stands for. I'm OK with the idea of them hypothetically making more games in this sub-series...

... but everything they've showed about Lightning Returns makes it look pretty bad. For the people who are excited, are you just excited because you like the character or is there actually content showed from this specific game that looks like a neat new idea or whatever?

I don't know, I find the art style freakish in an uncanny valley way, with their stick insect limbs twice the length of their bodies. Nobody has any muscles despite waving giant weapons around- it just comes across as bizarre, as if this idealised skinnyness implies beauty even if it is completely at odds with the body type a melee fighter/soldier like Lightning would need. Admittedly most game characters have this kind of problem, but her really long skeletal limbs seem particularly odd to me and stop me thinking of her as attractively designed. Her face/hair is quite cool for FF though, I'll admit they did well there.

Squall evolved as a chraracter though.

It's true, then to specify the obvious, start-of-game squall.

Also I still plan to try Lightning Returns, I just won't buy it at full price like XIII and XIII-2... wish people didn't lie about XIII-2 being so much better.

If anything it should make for hilarious conversation.

That's basically it. She seems to change while being with Hope and that her character will go somewhere, but the she goes to her angry bitch persona just slightly less angry.

As a said Aqua have way more layers as a character. She's caring but with a strong determination that isn't shown is the typical shemale fashion strong females are shown in videogames, she's clearly feminine. Also she's loyal and methodical, a person that follows the rules which make her struggle when she's in a situation in which in confronts her caring nature.

I'm excited to see the conclusion to the story as XIII-2 had a huge cliffhanger. I'm excited to try a revised, more action-oriented battle system. I'm excited for more job/armor/color customization. I'm excited to see all the shops and the interaction and side quests they've promised for the towns. I'm excited for the OST.

I'm wondering how the time element will play out. That's really the only mystery in my mind. Everything else looks good. Graphically it looks a little below XIII-2 (which was below XIII), but they said this is literally the earliest they've ever shown a FF game to the public so they could get feedback early enough to make adjustments. So, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. And graphics aren't the only thing I care about in a game anyway.

Well, for me, there isn't a FF I havent bought, exception being the mobile games, and the Crystal Chronicle games. Oh, and Mystic Quest for SNES. Stupid game.

Im a big Lightning fan and I admit that I would buy it even if it was the worst game in the world. BUT the game does have some neat ideas. I love the fact that they tried to change the battle system whitin such a restrictive engine. The fact that the costume you are using change the way Lightning fights also adds strategy to the game. The new world the game takes place seems very interesting to me. And overall, as someone who read every bit of info related to the XIII plot, I really want to see how it all ends.

Edit: oh wow lol basically what Shinta said. :p

I'm still confused as to how the battle system is going to work. Am I going to be directly controlling Lightning on the field or will I just be issuing commands? The battle in the XIII-2 DLC was pretty cool, but I really want to have a more action-oriented battle system. The series needs to abandon turn based combat. It is time.

X-2, XI (lol), XII, XIII, and XIII-2 are not turn based...

Especially ones named Lightning.

She seemed pretty upset when Serah dropped the Snow-bomb on her during her birthday party.

Most of those ARE turn based.. especially XII, which runs off ATB. Just because you move around the field doesn't mean they don't take turns. I don't remember how FFX-2 works, but XI is also turn-based. XIII and XIII-2 are, they just let you perform a partial action for a partial bar being filled.

That may be your opinion but from how I see it Aqua has a vastly superior range of emotion to that of Lightning. This not only helps her character but makes her relatable. It also helps with the whole 1 dimensional character and the "monotone" voice that you said Aqua had. (Lol if Aqua is monotone what does that make lightning).

Lets put cutscenes from the end of both XIII and BBS and let's compare. Obviously spoilers ahead:

I'm not even sure what Lightning's arc is as a character. XIII didn't give her much space to develop and XIII-2 made her a side character. Truthfully, it's a little sad that she's made the face of the XII games, but given so little care or thought.

I would be upset too if I knew some guy was taking away my sole reason for living because that's what the writer programmed into my CG model's brain.
