Lightning Returns starts to appear in Los Angeles

She seemed pretty upset when Serah dropped the Snow-bomb on her during her birthday party.

Which is understandable because Snow is a total loser.

Also, Serah is an idiot for dropping all that heavy stuff on her birthday, truly, it ws the worst birthday ever.

However, notice how the only emotion she displayed was anger.

Which is the only emotion she has.

I see it now. Lightning is gonna be the next coming of Zeromus.

I just don't see anything about LR that would appeal to me, even if I am utterly sick of her character. The battle system doesn't excite me, the environments so far don't look very interesting, I've hated the direction of the music in the XIII series...

...and it centers around Lightning instead of Noel, darnit.

When I first saw 13-3 (smh) I thought it was going to be action based like Kingdom Hearts or ff7:Crisis Core, since she is alone.

But from what I've heard it's still going to be turn based and I just don't care for that anymore.

Honestly... I got about half-way through FF13. I bought FF13-2 for a few bucks but haven't played it. So I'm not a fan, but neither am I going to say that I hate everything this stands for. I'm OK with the idea of them hypothetically making more games in this sub-series...

... but everything they've showed about Lightning Returns makes it look pretty bad. For the people who are excited, are you just excited because you like the character or is there actually content showed from this specific game that looks like a neat new idea or whatever?

I am basically neutral on my opinion of Lightning so her being the star doesn't have a lot of appeal and doesn't turn me away. I am excited for all of the different gameplay things they've mentioned and basically everything Shinta outlined above. The narrative is going to be terrible but I enjoyed XIII despite that so I don't think it's a big concern for me.

I actually like Lightning. I really enjoyed her character arc in FFXIII, and FFXIII as a whole, and while I thought her newfound devotion to Ettro in XIII-2 was pretty much a left turn out of nowhere, I can roll with it. I'm excited for Lightning Returns b/c it's Square Enix's chance to end the story on something of a better note than where XIII-2 left things. I'm sure that for the people who have hated this series, that
having it end with everything destroyed and all the people within dead and/or in stasis
is something that brings great joy to them. However, for me, as someone who cares what happens to the characters in that world, I want to see who can pull through for a better fate. Nothing I've seen of Lightning Returns looks standout, but the combat system that I really enjoyed seems more or less intact.

May I ask how Lightning develops again? It's been a while but the only noticeable development I recall is from maybe 1-2 instances with Hope.

Another thing that always bothered me was the 180 degree turn she pulled with XIII-2.

Her endgame mindset was making her own fate, not being chained to it because the writer said so.

Edit: If you are going to prove that Lightning is a better developed character you should give an elaborate compare and contrast between the two. For fairness.

As quickly as I can :

Lightning:

Beginning of XIII : Apprehensive , Hasty , Regretful , Tense, Angry(Upon fighting Fal'cie)

Mid game : No Bonds with the group decides to set out on her own.Hope tags along to become stronger. She wants to cut him off but he helps her fight her Odin so she sees that she has to help.

She opens up to him about how she shut down serah and how she hates snow.He blames snow for the death of his mother so lightning tells him he is wrong. They go to palumpolum to meet his father. She tasks snow with protecting hope and tells hope to work with snow. They reconcile because of her.

She meets fang , confronts her then realises her own mistakes.she could have protected serah so it wasn't really fang's fault. She sees how Fang wants to protect vanille and feels closer to her.She APOLOGIZES to snow for being unfair to him the whole time.(Bed room scene)

She also helps fang fight bahamut and hope fight Alexander. She helps rescue vanille and sazh.Lightning is now well integrated into the group.Willing to fight for everyone.

End game : The bonds with the group are strong. They don't know what the real goal is but they seek to end the rule of the primarch.Lightning primarily leads the charge in Eden.

Do you see how lightning is flat , boring and undeveloped ?

Yeah they could have at least waited until the next day. Perhaps Snow could have gotten a nice steady job first. I wonder how much a mortgage costs on cocoon. Fal'cie insurance must be rough.

For some reason I read the thread title with "Lightning Returns" being some kind of horrible disease that is starting to appear in Los Angeles.

On paper it sounds fine. But when you see how it is executed...

I won't say I'm "excited" for LR because I'm really not. But I am interested in the game because of some of the changes they have made like the remixed battle system, more customization/making your own classes basically, and then having a big world to explore (something XIII and XIII-2 lacked). And because I played XIII and XIII-2, I want to know how the story ends even if it ends up being something ridiculous.

As I said earlier in the thread, I'm mostly worried about the countdown/time limit aspect to the game and how punishing it will be. I'm hoping they give you easy ways to gain more time that isn't some big grind because I really do want to explore the world (based on the gorgeous world artwork).

Oddly enough, I was actually MORE excited for XIII-2 prior to it coming out. I would have done XIII-2 a lot differently, though. I remember having some discussions with friends about how it'd be cool for the entire game to take place on Pulse and have this huge interconnected world to explore. This was before all the time travel stuff was revealed, of course.

YAWN

Ask me which Shakespeare novel is best
I would be upset too if I knew some guy was taking away my sole reason for living because that's what the writer programmed into my CG model's brain.

Magius, i cant believe you are asking again how Lightning developed as a character. I wrote you an ESSAY about it in one of these ff threads. -_- i would quote it but Im on my phone...

Maybe Noel will learn...
chaos control
and replace Lightning midway through the game?

His new limit break attack will be Chaos Spear.

Ugh. Why do I still remember this.

Like an Orience L'cie I too fall victim to memory loss.

So......Hope gonna get his own game at E3

Please no Square Enix, get Hope away forever

I'm actually looking forward to lightning returns. *runs away*

She should marry Kratos.

Kratos:"Hey woman! where's my food!?"

Lightning:"Fuck you! Told ya that I don't know how to cook and you don't even remembered that today is my fucking birthday!"

Kratos:"OK, I'll fuck you twice as a present today HAHAHA!"

*Lightning punches Kratos*

Lightning:"I'm a goddess you bastard!"

Kratos:"I killed gods for much less. And Athenea was a godess, you're just a cheap whore! Fuck you I'm going to brutally kill and dismember monsters to cool off, consider you lucky!"

Lightning:"Second worst birthday ever!"

Anything new about this game in the last few months? As in features or content?

Been off my radar since it's reveal by and large. The last thing I remember is costumes and Lightning was wearing this weird half military thing

Your interpretation is simply overanalyzing her. I didn't find her that different from start to finish.

I read your post but it does not convince me, her acting differently in a few scenarios does not mean she evolved her personality.

They are not facts as much as your analysis of her behaviour.

I'm looking forward to Lightning's Return because it supposed to offer closure to the cliffhanger FFXIII-2 and I'm enthusiastic about the chance to play another game with Lightning as the lead again since she was my favorite character in XIII by far. Also, the artstyle looks really amazing to me.

However, the one thing that puts a damper on my hype a bit is how the game is supposedly time oriented. It sounds too BoF Dragon Quarter-y and that game is probably my most loathed game of the previous generation.

X-2, XI (lol), XII, XIII, and XIII-2 are not turn based...
Whatever you want to call ATB, its been iterated on enough that I would like to see some kind of new system in place. One with an emphasis on reflexes and timing rather than pure stats.

I played the game 4 times and I see the change in her each time as described above. That summary is pretty much on the ball. Lightning is very different at the end of 13 than at the start.

"I believe you' and "Congrats' sums up her change pretty well.

edit: shoot I shouldn't even bother posting here. Perfo, I understand your intentions but you know where this thread is going....

Sometimes I wonder if FF13 supporters will be the only ones happy when her story is finished and her time is over. Who else will SE haters have to fixate on???

Oh.

Nothing then.

I see. Oh well. I kinda want something to get me interested. I mean I'll still get the game, but this might end up being the first (console) Final Fantasy I haven't bought Day One since my introduction to the series with 7 and 8. When I get this all depends on my backlog
