Damn, that looks amazing. Gutted that RDM is not in the starting lineup, but maybe they'll add it later?
Might go with DRG or BRD for now.

Whooa there, two jobs for each class? Awesome! I heard the game will have 18 total classes+jobs, and I thought they'd all been revealed. Or does the Scholar make 17 and there's still one left?

Also, I don't play many MMOs, and I hardly ever make more than one character in them. As a result, I miss out on a lot of class content. You're saying that, so long as I have a complete set of the right gear, I can swap classes anytime? Will my character have separate stats for each so they can be viable for both magic and melee? Or, are you saying that I'll lose some class freedom once I choose a job?
The original game had 18 total classes including the crafting ones. The jobs are upgrades for the eight battle classes so the total if you include jobs would be 27 including Scholar. Classes are probably more than 75% of their respective jobs so I don't think they can really be considered that separate.

You can customize your stats to a degree for each class to slightly specialize or offset racial stat differences. You can also equip certain abilities from other classes based on the ability's restrictions. Classes can equip 10 from any class' compatible abilities but changing to a Job limits that to five compatible abilities from two specific classes.

Here's the official descriptions which are probably more clear:

Kinda sucks... I've got a few close friends that'd be interested if Dark Knight and Samurai made a return.

They've been saying both of those are coming for a while, although who knows when.

But with Scholar coming and clearly branching off of Arcanist, I think we may at least see Dark Knight sooner than people expected.

Ah, so it's a little more complicated than I thought. Thanks, the whole time I was just thinking of how Final Fantasy Tactics worked.

To be honest...don't like them.

Not only were the old animations more fluid, the new graphics they have for most of the skills are overpowering. With Dragon Kick (Monk's double kick with the boatload of purple stuff on it) you can barely tell what the Monk's doing; if I weren't already familiar with the animation from 1.23 I'd be lost.

Some are better like Dragonfire Dive and Rage of Halone, but for the most part they're like Simian Thrash in old FFXIV where you can't see over the postprocessing.

I will most likely play as Dragoon or Bard. Dragoon's are awesome and the Bard looks like a very fun ranged character to play as.
When should emails be sent informing who is in the beta? I've been signed up since beta 1, no invite. Hoping to get in!

I never could get past the monthly fee but man if Square could just give us a single player FF with expansive worlds and even a passable story this gen.....

goddam.

I always like the worlds of most MMOs...the gameplay (and often the fees) just drive me away. FFXII was close but the technology just wasnt there....

Oh well, then you won't gain anything from keeping it, might as well start on a fresh character.

That will certainly be the only way to do all the low level quests for us that have all old jobs at 50.

What? I thought everything was being wiped.

Do legacy players get into beta phase 3?

Legacy characters are locked into several Legacy servers

If you are legacy but wants to start fresh you can choose between Legacy servers or Fresh servers. The same goes to new players. Yoshi has stated he wants legacy players to help new players so he's allowing new players to join legacy servers if they want.

imo it's not that big of a deal though, because the content finder system is cross server. Meaning you can raid a dungeon instance with people from other servers.

Oh whhhhhhhhhhhhhhat. Dammit I thought everything was going to be wiped! I would have played more! XD

How are the quests in the game? Im interested in picking the game up but the quests need to be fun and diffrent and not your typical mmo fetch quests.

Hmm. I actually don't really know about this. I didn't play in 1.0, but I want to play with the GAF dudes, who I assume will all be on a legacy server. But since I'm totally new, I would probably be a really poor match for a server like that. Won't the lower level areas be pretty empty?

I doubt it. Not all of the former GAF players have maxed levels on everything (me for instance). And they're going to be helping.

edit: My highest is 45ish I think. And I plan to level the other jobs as well.

I will likely have to start over. I'm in the same boat and will likely follow the rest. Pretty sure there are others besides just us two.

I'm actually bringing a couple of RL friends into the game I managed to convince to play. Hopefully more too. =)

What about the economy?
The story missions in the original loaded you with enough money to get your foot in the door. There'll probably be BS no matter what, though, once bandwagon builds and whatever are established.

All the previous players money was cut down so the markets should be pretty stable. As for playing with GAF I wouldn't worry about it if you need help leveling just ask someone will give you a hand.

GAF Linkshell wasn't just gaffers there are plenty of people with many different levels. Also keep in mind those with all their levels maxed out will still need to level the new classes that are being introduced from scratch.

If we were in phase 2, we should be in phase 3, right? Haven't gotten an e-mail announcing the phase like I did previously.

What demosthenes said. I want to go to another server and start fresh for a while, but I'll be front loading all my bonuses and 1.0 character for at least the first few weeks when the game launches. Most of my last few months in 1.0 was just helping friends and pal'ing around. If they're just starting out, I can level something else with them no problem.

Dont forget about Level Sync.

Forgot about this. Also a big help.

Oh fuck the BLM animations are amazing. Never seen a caster rock the fuck out like that! Damn!

I've never been one for caster like classes but I thought the same. Especially the armor! ... despite the poofy pants.

I don't see myself playing as a caster except for Summoner though. Right now... I have my eyes set on Paladin, Monk, Summoner, Dragoon, Warrior (pretty much in that order). :p

The member's code thing is annoying, I have two copies of XIII on my SE account, but I can't find the codes, was I meant to hold on to those little slips? Who would do that?

For everyone who registered their copy of XIII and lost their slip, you have to re-use your original code to get beta access. SE is manually providing everyone with their already registered code here: http://na.square-enix.com/go/thread/view/139235/29630175/FINAL_FANTASY_XIII_Members_Code_Request_Thread;_RE:_Applying_FINAL_FANTASY_XIV:_A_Realm_Reborn_Beta?pg=1.

they are implementing an option to filter out the flashes if i recall. That said, the subtle animations like running -> stopping inertia has been remove to facilitate a more responsive gameplay. I'm sadden they remove animation lock but it's probably for the better if you don't want to experience ifrit eruption nightmares again.

What about the economy?

All 1.0 character's money will be reduced to 1/10 of it's original amount. This will not diminish your purchase power in anyway but it is to kinda give the economy a soft reset, they dont want too much cash circulating at start. Rest assure though money is not hard to come by as all quests will award you with some kind of cash or equipment, the first 30 levels you dont even really need to worry about equipment as long as you do the quests and low level dungeon raids.

Your cash will be used mostly for teleporting around, they've did away with the anima completely.

I recall registering for a beta a while ago(January according to the email). Do I need to sign up again?

check your email, there should be a link to the beta forums, if you have already activated it you should be able to access the forum and participate by downloading the beta client.

testing won't start until 14 June so you might no be able to update the client until then.

Oh, well I guess I wasn't ever selected, then. What I'm looking it is merely the confirmation of having received my application.

Just went to the Japanese site to send in the 16-digit passcode that I got with FFXIII waaaaay back in 2009.

Hope I get selected!

for new players, it might actually be better to start out in because gil is going to be circulating faster. you can get rid of your items quicker because they'll probably be used in crafting and you'll get more for them. add in the 90% gil reduction and the fact that a lot of players will probably fall for buying an overpriced plot of land and it should be just fine. the cutting edge, end-of-the-line shit is going to be even harder to get though.

All the characters from the previous version are carried over to ARR, they don't even have to be Legacy. They will retain their classes levels, items and gil (although gil is being reduced to 1/10 globally).

Can someone please explain all this "Legacy server" stuff? One of my friends has a Legacy account, but I do not. We were both on the same server in XIV 1.0 and had a pretty fun time leveling together. Since he is a Legacy member, will his character be moved to another server away from mine? Or will we still be on the same server?

I'm a little concerned because I don't think I want to start over if he's on a different server than I am, and I'm not sure if we can transfer servers.

First-print copies of FFXIII came with a code to allow PS3 players into the XIV 1.0 beta. They are honoring those codes for the ARR beta. You do not need one but if you enter one you are guaranteed to get into phase 3.

Guaranteed you say?

What if I used the code in the Square Enix Members forum to register the game?

You will both remain on your original (legacy) server for the time being. Legacy characters won't be able to migrate (supposedly till the rest of the population catches up, after that point it's up in the air) on 'fresh start' new servers. There will be no legacy/non-legacy segregation and anyone will still be able to create a new character on any server. They just don't want Legacy characters to start interfering with brand new economies (which was a concern for many new players).
