Fantasia: Music Evolved Announced (Disney/Harmonix, 360/XBO, Kinect, 2014)

I like MS's approach here of announcing some lesser things this week (Fable remake, Halo Spartan Assault, and this) so stuff like this won't waste anytime at the E3 conference next week.

Agree.

It suggests the game they will be showing at the E3 conference will be pretty major.

This might possibly be the dumbest videogame trailer I have ever seen in my life.

And I'm saying that as someone who spent hundreds of hours with Rock Band 3.

Wow that's quite a picture you just painted.
Thanks. I just felt like it was a little more true to life. I really can't stand this sort of trailer at all, but obviously people are affected by them because they keep making them. The masses are easily distracted by shiny things and pretty things--they make you ignore the horror just under the surface of the façade.

Even if it isnt one of the "15" talked about titles for the Xbox one, this probably will show up. Whats a Microsoft conference without a little Ursher and music games. God speed to all of us, this E3 could be the last for many of us.

So, did you guys just like --- completely ignore Wonderbook during Sony's last E3.

Love how some people act as if MS is the only one that does/did motion control game demos at E3.

The kinect branding must be effective.

since last week, i always expect some people has a list of replies on their head just waiting to be posted whenever a xbone related thread is made. smh

That's not exclusive to Xbox, that's just whole GAF in a nutshell

People call out Sony for that, too. The fact that your competition does it does not make it a great excuse when E3 should be seen as a way to please the core crowd.

I don't see why so many people are upset. The game wouldn't have mainstream appeal with an all-classical soundtrack. Sure, it removes some fidelity from its source material, but it's a tradeoff.

Exactly.

Harmonix has a good track record, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I'll probably try it out. Doesn't look great but something like this needs to be actually played first before making conclusions.

I actually think the concept for the gameplay is pretty cool. It feels like a natural evolution of Dance Central and Rock Band. I don't anticipate I'll ever play it since I don't own a Kinect and may not get an Xbone, but I can see how it would be fun.

Why on earth would they not even mention them in the first place? It's not like they have to negotiate rights for stuff that's been in the public domain for hundreds of years.

Because the people they're advertising to are not interested in classical music. This trailer/ad is aimed at teenagers/top 40 fans.

Yeah.....that trailer pretty much killed any initial interest I had in this. I dont know what the hell Bruno Mars, or Queen have to do with Fantasia. I love Queen, but the art is not very Fantasia based, and it seems neither is the music, maybe they should have called it Fantasia (2013) or something similar.

Will still keep an eye out, but not a good first impression.

I'm not making it an excuse. To be honest, I don't get why people get mad at it in the first place since from what I can tell, people still played both systems a whole lot after both of the conferences for the plethora of core games that released on them (whether exclusive or multiplatform).

I guess I just realize that not everything will appeal to me and just leave it at that instead of ranting. I know that I will have more than enough games to play outside of the things that don't interest me.

The trailer made no sense when one considers what the development company and the movie Fantasia is about. This just hurts my head so much.

Queen is technically "Classical" music...

Why is it called Fantasia? Cause I'm moving my hands like Mickey while Bruno Mars is playing? I don't understand

My hunch would be trying to make the "Fantasia" brand relevant .... look it could be so much worse it could have all those Disney Channel music in it.

But really instead of licensing out for songs - Disney could of put in the orchestral versions of Disney movie songs into the product - and it wouldn't be quite so offensive. Why pay Fun when you can use your own in house content and appease the people who would at least be curious to buy the product in question.

We played this game last year with the Wii U - "Pre-E3 Nintendo Direct to get all the unimportant stuff out of the way so we can see games!!" - and we lost. I'm not keeping hopes up for the sequel.

When you think about it... Bohemian Rhapsody will be 38 years old in 2013.
When Fantasia was made (1940), the Nutcracker was 48 years old, the Sorcerer's Apprentice (music) was 43 years old.

Seems like a cool idea...once Queen popped up I visualized it being somewhere between Child of Eden, the backgrounds for Beatles Rock Band, and that Google Doodle from Freddie Mercury's birthday.

Rescinded my thoughts until I see the game itself in motion. They probably should have included footage like that in this unveiling, huh?

I'm really confused... So the screenshots and "details" in the thread imply a generic Disney Kinect game with music, but the trailer looks like a cool Kinect DJ app or something with shitty top 40 songs. The latter concept (with better music selection) actually sounds vaguely interesting. Also, why are they using an old Disney IP that has zero connection to the game? With the music they're putting in it, most of the potential audience is too young to even know about Fantasia.

Sounds like Harmonix was making a new game but Disney went to them and said to toss their IP into it, ala Star Fox Adventures. Except here it makes even less sense.

What? This has nothing to do with MS - they have NO involvement ... this is a Disney Interactive joint they are the publishers not MS.

Lol well I missed that part. I wonder how they will demo it then, seems like a tough game to demo in a trailer.

MS is having livestream on their booth throughout E3, i imagine this game will be on the booth and will be demoed for that livestream.

We will no doubt get a boring 5-10+ minute Move presentation. I only addressed Microsoft doing this because we are talking about an Xbox one/360 exclusive ITT. Wonderbook was worse then Microsofts kinnect nonsense last year at E3.

People have ignored many of the things Sony has done. Along with the aforementioned Wonderbook, Sony is good for one 15+ minute powerpoint presentation highlighting whatever numbers they feel like everyone needs to see and the past couple of years they've wasted a lot of time on Move-related stuff. I don't know where people have gotten this idea that Sony is all games all the time but it couldn't be further from the truth.

Holy Crap.

What were you people expecting from Harmonix?

They are Kinect wizards.

Actually, the better question is what I expected from GAF on this.. and it's about what I expected.
