if an author puts out a side story at a later date after the original book was published does that make the original book incomplete?

If the author makes the side story during the rest of the story, announces it before the book is released in an industry notorious for said practice then yes.

ND season passes are especially shit.

I will be surprised if this SP content even features TLoU protagonists... and ND has never done SP DLC, so there really isn't a precedent you can point to and say was shit. With MP you have a stronger case.

Unless I misread... the extended doc is on the disc.
Oh it is? This is just all so confusing. I'm happy if the extended doc is indeed on the disc then.

Still upset about the SP DLC, though. I'm putting money on the Survival Edition, so spending more money on this game wasn't what I wanted to do. If it's good content, though, I'll get it.

Will never buy a season pass. And of there will be so dlc it just needs to be a side story (not a true ending or epilogue) and I might get it. I don't care at all for mp dlc. Especially for this game.

So if you do dlc, I'd prefer Sp if done right. And if its fluff then I skip it. No biggie.

FUCK. SP DLC is probably the great ending of the game cut out and sold as DLC.
Non-season pass players will get the sucky ending ala Mass Effect 3.

Just lost a day 1 customer ND. I'll wait what the content of the SP DLC is or the GOTY/PS4 version next year.

There is practically zero chance that any SP DLC will just be cutting room floor shit. I would bet my word that it will be post production additional side-plot type stuff that you won't see for some time down the road. To think otherwise to me implies a lack of respect for the developer in question.

To be so dismissive of the possibility to me implies one is blissfully unaware of just how much recycled content comprised the DLC of Uncharted 3.

Honestly those single player DLC items make it sound like a F2P game.

I can't stand 'boost' type items that devs sell to the playerbase. It's such a lazy way of extracting a few bucks from people for what is literally just a changed figure in some piece of code.

At least with maps even re-made maps you are getting something new.

The boosters already in the game, it has a upgrade system for all weapons and your abilities.

This is early access to things already in the game.

That is not what it is. I implore you to hate on season passes all you like, really... I hate them too. But what you've described is not what ND is doing. So at least be accurately mad at them. lol Which is far more reasonable. And has more chance to resonate.

Wait, can someone clarify this to me?
DLC is available widely and you can get it separately regardless of Season Pass or do you get DLC only if you choose Season Pass? I am confus.
They'll be selling the DLC packs a la carte at $10 a piece. If you buy the season pass you'll be getting all 3 for the price of 2.

The day 1 boosters can apparently be earned in game just by playing the game.

The wording is a bit weird. I originally took Day 1 as a preorder bonus for the Season Pass, but now I'm starting to think the bonus is just Day 1 unlock keys for items you would normally earn as you play. They'll probably clarify tomorrow if that's what they really meant.

I dont get the hate for season passes. They just allow you to pay less for DLC packs before they show anything. I dont buy them because I dont know what I am getting so I just wait for them to come out and wait for impressions. Now if it was a season pass for day one DLC then that would be a different story.

ND does not have a good record for multiplayer DLC season pass though lol.

I hope the single player stuff is good and not a extended ending. Though I dont think they will they have said that they are not making a cliffhanger ending and from the wording it sounds like them plan on focusing on a side character.

Yeah, if the game ends up being satisfying and something I love, I damn sure am not going to complain about getting more single player content.

At least, this time they have a plausible explanation for when they release a 4th piece of DLC.

I'm half expecting the DD version to be 60€ here (the game is 50€ in stores).

There's also the worry that DLC, announced so soon, is a sign of content being purposefully held back. I've seen pretty compelling arguments on both sides of that issue this gen.

In this case though... considering the delay, and they've been crunching over a month, and just the way the devs seem in the interviews (worn out) I don't get that feeling at all.

The only way season passes work is if one has a measure of good faith in the developer. ND completely squandered whatever good faith they had with the shit fest that was the U3 season pass. The season pass discount isn't much of a bargain when you're getting a discount on rubbish you wouldn't have bought if you'd known.

Well, at least the campaign is supposed to be their longest yet. As long as they don't chop the ending off and offer it as DLC, then I'll have no issue.

Any info about the size of the game on the PSN? Do you think it will be near the size of Uncharted 3?
I wouldn't be surprised if it was ~40GB+. I don't think they would be making such a big deal about the game not requiring 2x the space of the download like most store downloads and the ability to play the game after downloading the first half if it was a <25GB download.

Single player upgrades? Why? So this is how the game probably was originally and they just lowered the settings afterwards so you would need to buy it. Probably required for hardest mode.

what? you upgrade your stuff in the game, I'm assuming you get a few for 'free'.

Just guessing, according to the demo I played(which will be released on Friday), the upgrades are in SP.
I've played easy and hard(survival is blocked in the demo). Most time when I encounter enemies, Joel would be dead after 3-4 shots or 1 bite from infected. So it won't change the experience too much, the battle is still exciting.

The difference I spot is the supply. In easy mode, more supply is provided.
If the extra bonus is for SP, that gives some advantages to players to upgrade their weapons and increase skills. Meanwhile saves some medicine and tools and materials. But those upgrades won't make the gun a super weapon.

I really want to know how survival mode feels. Wish Naughty Dog would stop locking the hardest difficulty mode behind a gray wall. Just warn gamers about to select it that it's going to be tough :(

I can't believe this is happening. They haven't told people about MP ( game launches in 2 or so weeks ) and they want people to pre-order MP DLC? Who is running the show up there? A feces throwing, glue huffing monkey?

My head just aches trying to figure the thought process that lead to these decisions. But I guess this is the modern video games industry. Amazing.

I've stopped trying to explain it beyond pure fucking hubris. Still, I want Last Of Us, but I won't be getting any season pass after the U3 debacle.

I love to get the digital edition. But PSN downloads are so freaking unstable with my connection. Anyone who knows the size of the game ?

FWIW, only the initial core download will be from the PS Store servers. The actual data will be downloaded from Naughty Dog's server.

Neil Druckmann explains how the download will work for the last of us and they are using their own private server so it will download faster than normal PSN downloads.

Good news, the DLC is not cut content, but is new content being worked on post-launch.

*Edit* Never mind, link is a banned site.

Getting access at midnight and playing while it downloads maybe too good to pass up. I will buy digital but not sold on DLC. No stores near me planning midnight releases for this game.

There will DEFINITELY be a GOTY version next year. The question is will it be for PS3 only, PS4 only, or PS3/PS4.

I am weak so I will buy it now, sell it, and rebuy it again next year.

I can't decide whether to keep my Amazon pre-order or get the digital version. For some reason I keep thinking that Sony give people a way to play their purchased digital version of games on the PS4 using Gaiki.

If you're putting your money on BC in any shape or form where you aren't rebuying your games than you're in for a surprise.

I'm skeptical of Gaiki ever working. However, if it does somehow get up and running, and Sony makes their previous-gen catalog available, it will probably be linked to subscription/PS+.

But I have a hard time believing that paid content already linked to your profile would not be available through the service, that you'd have to "buy" it again.

Like I said, I don't think it will ever work the way they are saying it will... but yeah, if they get it going there's no way you're buying that paid-for content again. You might need to be Plus member to get the benefit of the service, but that's a different issue.

Eric Monacelli (Community Strategist, Naughty Dog) posted today on the PS Blog that the file size is about 26GB for the digital version of TLoU.

am I the only one that thinks DLC should be multiplayer only? Singleplayer stuff should be in the original game.. This is only going to make me holdout for the game of the year edition..

given that Uncharted 3 clocks in around 42GB I am very impressed they got Last of Us ~16GB to be smaller

Last of Us doesn't have 3D movies does it? that could be the bulk of the size difference right there, Uncharted 3's 3D movies were ~10GB

IIRC there's no 3D support. They also seem to have dumped the behind the scenes videos that were planned to be in the disc in favor of pushing it as a Season Pass preorder incentive so that probably lowered the size a bit.

Is it this big because of uncompressed audio or?
Uncompressed audio + multiple voice tracks + high bit rate cutscenes + their longest single player game would be my guess.

When you compare it to their other games it's pretty similar in size. U1 & U2 we're both ~20GB's while U3 ballooned up to ~43GB's cause of the 3D.
