Does anybody actually give a flying shit about final fantasy any more anyway? What are they gonna show, ff13-4 lightning goes away and ff14- it might actually work this time honest edition?
Final Fantasies differ a whole lot. Just because Toriyama's XIII & its offshoots are what they are and XIV 1.0 was a rushed and in many ways badly designed game, doesn't mean the same will continue in the future. XIV 2.0 alone seems to be a massive improvement over the original release and FFXV is quite likely directed by someone else than Toriyama so it's almost inevitable that someone more competent is on the director's seat (Ito, hopefully). They got the message after XIII that a super-linear game is not something FF fans want and they've been moving away from that in the sequels already, there's no indication they'd be returning to their movie JRPGs in the future.

That is correct.Even toriyama himself is well aware of that and is moving far from the design. Upcoming FFs will be good. There is no doubt about this.

The whole secretly and behind closed doors thing is giving off bad vibes to me. I guess instead of seeing we'll have to just read about it again until they decide to show anything to the fans days/months/years later.

Well said, every Final Fantasy is different, just because we've had years of FFXIII it does not mean that the next Final fantasy will be more of the same. Different teams and directors guarantee this.

I honestly hope there's a trailer for the public to see at either the Sony event or somewhere else and then something more in depth behind closed doors...

As far as I know, this is a pretty common practice which happens at most gaming events...

The press are invited to report on what they saw/played/whatever afterward, not keep it a secret until X date. (unless there's some sort of information embargo like for the pre-E3 press events a few weeks ago)

If any bombs are dropped during the event, I'm sure they'll have the trailers online within a few days... if not, people will pester them until they do.

It's closed doors... why would they show something if it was only shown during closed doors. Besides, you'll see it during E3 anyway.

Versus as first year title for PS4 with Sony's help.
KH 3 Teaser trailer during the public conference.
FFX / X-2 Release date.
Gameplay of Versus during private meeting.

I want to belive.

I honestly dont get this. Bayonetta 2 got trashed when announced as a Wii U exclusive and wasn't hitting a console people already owned.

But its perfectly fine for people wanting a game that was officially announced for an existing platform years ago but go next gen exclusive? You still have to buy a new console for it.

I'd be upset if it was PS4 exclusive though because its one of the games I bought my PS3 for years ago.

Id Love to see something Kingdom hearts at this hopefully there is something coming other than the remakes though a hd version of birth by sleep would be glorious

What is Square thinking by making the event private anyway? This is the last company that should be doing that kind of thing. Definitely not a way to hype people. And they desperately need hype.

You don't think it's a smart business move to put one of the most anticipated titles in the past... decade on a new console as an exclusive to sell... consoles? I don't know man....

Rofl. Seriously? People acting like SE hasn't done a single private event anymore. Also, the focus and then intention of the private event is different.

Bayonetta 2 was probably also trashed because it's probably a waste to put it on that console since well... no one'll buy it. But since Nintendo is helping with development, not much you can do.

With Versus/whatever it ends up being, people are just hankering for it in some shape or form and if that means buying a new console, they'll do it. They did it back in 2006/2007, lol.

They're just doing business as usual with a press event...?

I know, but I am worried if there are trailers and such they will hold out on showing it to the fans. My memory might be foggy, but wasn't that the case with Versus in 2006? They only showed some pics of that and took forever to release the trailer? Sure a lot of time has passed since then, but SE has only gotten worse with showing things that fans want and the new director has yet to prove himself.

SE is holding a private PRE-E3 press event for certain people. Notice the PRE part. It's before E3. If they're having an event prior to E3, literally right before E3, why the hell would they not show it at E3? Why not just you know... have a separate event? Seriously people.

As I said on the previous page, there has been a precedent for these events (13, 14, Agni's Philosophy) right before/during E3 and they have never held back video, but have always been a way for the producers and/or developers to verbally divulge information about the game to a large cross-section of the press. It's easier than scheduling a ton of closed-doors appointments at E3 itself - this way you can speak to all of the press in one simple swoop.

I can see why some media with limited resources would have a hard time choosing between Nintendo and Square-Enix events.
Not really, lol. Square, What the hell are you doing.

PS4 is the natural successor to the PS3, PS3 owners were inclined to buy one anyway. 360 owners were not inclined to buy the Wii U.

What would you rather? A version on PS4 with improved graphics and framerate. Or possibly a version on PS3 barely keeping a stable FPS because of the visuals. A lot of people are ready to move on to PS4 already.

Are you telling me that the PS3 wasn't worth it in the long run?

A cross gen might please everyone, but focusing on just the PS4 version will give the game the best possible potential. As someone who enjoys games, I want the best possible game they can give me.

But at this point I'm just glad it's coming out.

P.S I'm actually buying a Wii U to play Bayonetta 2 among other great future Wii U games.

What could be worth hiding?

- There's no way they would be stupid enough to keep Versus secret anymore. That is going to show up on stage.

- They already promised to show a NEW Final Fanasy game for PS4 (that is not Versus) so they wouldn't be hiding that.

- There's no reason to hide anything related to Lightning Returns or A Realm Reborn. Both are plastered all over the city and are releasing this year.

EDIT: Forgot it said "Final Fantasy" press conference. Meaning no Kingdom Hearts....

Where's Verendus on this?

The only thing left would be a sneak peak at new Kingdom Hearts or a new IP of some sort.
When?

lol, for some reason I guess people read "Final Fantasy" as "Square Enix" but... eh, it happens.

I don't think they're trying to hide anything... this is just a pre-E3 chance for the press to ask questions and all that.

Verendus is probably in on this, tbh.

Well, at the end of the PS4 reveal, they came out and said they're starting development on a Final Fantasy title and we should look forward to E3. Considering they said this at the PS4 event, it's probably for the PS4.

That's true, but the changes from FF to FF once happened in a different context: deliberate design decisions and evolution vs. messed up development processes. FF13 was a mediocre FF game, FF14 was a disaster, and that's all we've been given since 2006 outside of handhelds (Typo-0 and Bravely Default not even having been localized...). Even though FF15/Versus/whatever will undoubtedly be different, by this point it's seriously hard to imagine being blown away by a FF game again.

I'm still hopeful that what we've seen of Versus will eventually turn into a very good game, though. We'll see.

Why do you think they're hiding something? It's not like they're going to show the press FF7 and then leave it as a secret.

How can you not watch it when it is NOT going to be live streamed?

Like, no video uploaded on YouTube several hours later after the event if it's not a livestream? Not even that? If that's the case, I eat my words, but if there's some form of video for the event....yeah. I hold no excitement for anything Square does unless it explicitly says Eidos in parentheses.

So you think they'll show something there that won't be at Sony's conference? Or they will just offer more details about what they will show on it the previous day?

Private events are usually not live streamed or recorded in any form iirc.

Because people think the words 'private' and 'behind closed doors' means that there's something that they don't want people to see in the context of a press-centric event like E3 apparently.

It's really just an event intended for the members of the press. That's it. What else do people want from a pre-E3 Q&A?

I care more about Nintendo then Square. At least with Nintendo it's time well spent instead of getting handed the Excalipoor every 10 minutes.

Nintendo isn't doing so well either...what will they show anyway ? The best thing they could show is "X" and for some reason I doubt that's happening.

WW remake is ,well, a remake.I don't care about mario but that's a personal preference.
