Xbox One: Details on Connectivity, Licensing (24 hour check-in) and Privacy Features

There is just no way MS would do this without either Sony doing the same, or acquiring some serious exclusives from publishers in return. This isn't over by a long shot.

The crap internet offered here. Service here isn't really normal like how it is on mainland Miami. Here at the beach, there is no Verizon so you can't get FiOS, and there is no Comcast so you can't get Xfinity. The only options you have are AT&T U-Verse and Atlantic Broadband (which is what I have) and due to bad weather I've lost internet for over a day several times.

I was being sarcastic :p

Does everyone remember the first time you played an NES?

Miyamoto actually came to my house to make sure I could connect to the internet after every castle.

Up to 10 family members can play your games from any console at any time.

This part confuses me. Does this mean if I have a "family member" with their own X-Box One and I share my account with them, they have access to all of my games? Probably wouldn't work if we were both on at the same time.

This kinda shit doesn't prevent piracy, IT ENCOURAGES IT! You think you're gonna see MORE sales with this model? HA! You'll see prices drop like a fucking rock. Like Steam, people will be waiting for big sales to pick up those games. This kinda shit could kill the industry.

So, I guess I'm ok with this. If this can help fend off future lay offs and closings, then I'm in.

Yeah because the way to increase sales is to give people a lot less value for the money. This will total stop publishers from spending 100 million on B level franchises and be in total shock when it does not sell like COD.

This does nothing to fix anything. It will kill the industry as it just raised the price to game by a ton.

I can buy PC games for $1 like Alan wake. PC gaming with steam is WAY WAY WAY cheaper then anything MS has shown they are willing to do.

Even more importantly there is a thriving indie community that are pumping out some serious quality at cheap prices, brand new even without discounts. Xbox has some good arcade titles, but nowhere near the same amount.

The worst kind of attitude about all of this is the one that's like 'this is the way the industry is going, deal with it, get another hobby if you don't accept it.'
Well no, fuck that, fuck it! This is my hobby which I've invested thousands into and years of my life and I'm not about to fucking 'move on' because Microsoft want to destroy the industry through their greed. Fuck them for making my hobby less about games and creativity and innovation and more about ways of draining my wallet.

Why was this on NeoGAF Shit Posts Twitter? This post is fucking great.

I just hope people don't get suckered in by some BS exclusive, timed or not. People are sending the wrong message if they hate this stuff, and still buy because that is the only way they can play Titan.

I am being sincere and not trying to troll people's purchase either.

Licorice-flavoured booze?
I'm forced to go pc exclusive if Sony follows suit

Same here, end of console gaming for me if Sony does the same, no hyperbole, it's an easy choice.

fucking blame game, who the fuck are they going to blame when they realize that it's the industries own stupid business model that is costing them, not the used game market, needing to sell millions just to cover costs, it's ridiculous these days.

The whole industry needs to implode and reset imo.

Someone needs to compile a list of all the news outlets that dare post about this news negatively. Should be a good indicator of trustworthy sites.

PS Can use guys stop with the goddamn Game of Thrones hints, I've not seen it yet and I'm worried about hitting my ignore list limit.

Don't know why people keep saying Sony is going to do the same thing when they have already confirmed the PS4 will never have to connect to the internet.

They could go the rfid thing, but it still wouldn't be as convoluted as all these MS policies.

The PS4 may never have to connect to the Internet but the PS4 version of EA'S Madden 427 might have to if you want to actually play it.

I'm a sony fan at heart but you can't just assume that DRM is impossible on the PS4 because the console itself doesn't require a connection.

ugh. It's not at launch. That means you can't when you buy an X1 this Holiday. It's not premature.

yea true but according to Jaffe a PS4 either... but after that period yes it sounds like a rental deal will come up... and I don't see how a mom and pop, Best Buy, Walmart can't all become resellers/traders... they only need to get some software and a license probably

It sounds like the "xbox family plan" is one person on your list can play one game at one time.

So if you have one good friend, you could share your games list with them.

You couldn't share it with more then one realistically, because there can only be one game from your list active.

I don't see a problem with that. If you have one disc you can only lend it to one person while you can't play. I'd be ok with that.

The rest. Eh, I think I'm out MS.

What's really baffling that despite the news today most people who have been following knew it wasn't going to be all sunshine and rainbows but why on earth release this before E3? Surely a lot of people have made their minds up now and no matter what they show they won't be swayed. Wouldn't it have made more sense to put their line up of games front and centre and then a day or two latter causally and silently drop this news.

But yeah, there's no way we're getting through this without sony doing the same exact thing. Seriously, why would microsoft give a shit about used games? They don't as much as publishers do. This is all because the publishers pushed for it, and if anyone thinks that the publishers didn't push on sony to do the exact same thing, they're insane.

Wow this thread is flying so fast it makes the thread from The Last OF Us reviews look like it was going slow on Wednesday!

Sony had better realize what a golden opportunity they have on Monday at E3. They could win the next gen before their console even launches.

Playing devil's advocate, because I hate to see the overreaction:

-I can almost guarantee they will work out rental deals with redbox, blockbuster, gamefly, etc. They would be foolish to leave money on the table.

-Put a piece of tape over the kinect sensor if you don't want MS to see you in your underwear. It's not like they'll be recording you on some server. relax.

-24 hours of offline play: If your internet is down for more than 24 hours get a new provider. My PC is always online and that's where I game the most. You're not taking the xbox out of your house to go camping so what is the problem?

-You can still trade a game to a friend. Once it's theirs, who cares what happens to it next. And there will still be avenues to sell your games. Amazon, gamestop, CeX... they'll all be there.

-Sharing all your games among 10 people = amazing. I can see 10 of my gaming friends and I working out a system of who buys what. That's 9 less games we each have to buy. Makes up for the lack of trade-in.

I have a gif for you too:

Comcast as far as I looked is the only provider for internet boradband.

I either can keep comcast or GO BACK TO FUCKING DIAL-UP!/DSL

kinect is still flistening.

and FUCK ALL when a fucking hurricane hits.

As a truck driver, 24 hour check ins kill the Nextbox for me. My 360 has saved me far to many times during boring times. Not being able to play because I don't have internet consistently? To hell with that.

Oh look a junior member. I bet your email address leads back to a redmond office.

You. Can. Not. De. Fend. This. It is wrong. Period....

Of course he can defend it. To some people like him and myself its not a big fucking deal at all. You going to tell me my email goes back to Redmond too?? LOL

But if you have 20 games you can only lend one disc out.

MS said:
and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

one family member at a time has access to your shared library.

Yes, but only if none of your other "family" are already using one of your games.

I think this was smarter. Gonna be a brofest at e3

What happens when the XBox Live servers are down for periods, like they have been a number of times? What happens when you go on vacation? What happens to people whose power goes out from storms and such?

My guess is that the console (if you can even call it that) self-destructs. They said there wouldn't be a RRoD this time around, so this is probably their way of milking as much money as possible from the poor saps who buy one.

the masses won't give a fuck, as soon as Halo 5 shows up. That + price drop or bundle will make this one a success

although it's of course not so sure, since it's the first time in 26 years of gaming I'm seeing such a complete shitstorm like this one

So, I guess I'm ok with this. If this can help fend off future lay offs and closings, then I'm in.

How's this gonna help? You think this will magically make people start every game at full price? LOL if anything less people will buy games at all because of these dumb policies.

I don't sony can, at least not to this degree, unless they just lied about their online requirements.

But let's say they do.

Back to GOG/Steam. Had a good run.
