I love his generic PS3 fan name. The perfect cover-up!

I can imagine it now

*cheesy soap opera music*
"Who was it that killed the PS4? was it Microsoft? was it Nintendo? No, it was... *camera rapidly zooms in on face* the PS4 fan himself!"

This thread reminds me of this one:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=468091

I wonder what the ratio of simply selfish 'as long as I get mine' posters and viral marketers and conflicts of interests is in this thread.

I also I'm curious how long proelite is going to have his 'tldr' reply go unnoticed by the higher powers on gaf.

It'll get noticed. That tldr post is fucked up, just all taunt, no contribution, no even attempt to understand the outrage. Just gutless nonsense.

Steam has this thing called 'Steamworks', which allows publishers to force buyers of physical media to only use it through Steam.

That's a good point, actually.

Well fuck that too, then! :p

I really wonder how are they gonna pull this off in the Asian markets.. (Japan, Singapore, Korea, etc)...

and for Europe, how are they gonna advertise the console without putting a long list of disclaimers
e.g. internet required, used games etc

Japan has an incredible used market. I'm really curious to see how they react.

We should all be ashamed. Petrol prices are raising all around the world, yet we still drive our cars every day. Fuck us. We're a part of the problem.

I know I'm getting the Nextbox. I'm tempted to drop cash on the next playstation, too.

Xbox has a community that i've stood with for ~10 years.
Xbox continues to supply me with games that I enjoy.
Seeing as though I legitimately know people who make cash off of moded xboxes, pirated games, and all that shit... I see why they're looking to daily checks. I'm not mad about this.

Yes, I'm one of those squares that scoffs at illegal downloads of music, movies, and games. So in all seriousness, this shit doesn't bother me.

I'm sorry that I'm a part of the problem guys, but i'm not going to just say 'fuck it' when things aren't going to affect me in the ways that you seem to be claiming.
I've traded in many a game to try and afford new ones. I've lent games to others in hopes they'd enjoy halo.
Now I'm old enough to support my 1 game per quarter quota, and i'm stoked on a system with more power and more features.

But if we could have predicted the long term effects of burning fossil fuels on a massive scale would we have buckled down and accepted it or rode bikes for a couple years while someone thought of something more preferable?

I will agree to disagree though, I'm sure there will be great games shown off for X1 at E3.

I've already decided not to purchase an Xbox One unless some drastic changes happen. Today's information still makes the Xbox One look like shit.

Haha, when we started predicting the long term effects people scoffed and shot us down.

Dude,THEY'RE TREATING PHYSICAL GAMES AS DIGITAL GAMES!!!!!!
We should not have these restrictions on retail products, period!

The disc is there to satisfy the retail market.

Xbox One is 100% digital. When you purchase and insert the disc it gives you a digital pass, which allows you to play from anywhere as long as you are logged in. At that point you could throw it in the garbage for all they care. Someone correct me if im wrong about this.

Yeah...until the HDD is 50TB or something. blu-ray discs have a huge capacity. I'd assume only 4-5 games installed at once is possible.

That's probably not true in practice. So few games fill a fraction of the capacity of the disc.

I hope people know that this is a ploy by publishers to futher control distribution markets, and they don't intend to stop people from playing used games. What they want to do is force companies like gamestop to give them a share of the proftis, money which will likely go straight to the publisher and none of which back to the developer.

The idea is simple, if gamestop wants to sell used copies of game X, they must agree to give a fee to the developer. That fee can range from ensuring "x" amount of new games are purchased by either the store or consumers, to different kind of promotional materials, to a royalty on used game sales.

I was actually pleased when I read facebook today (something that's rare) when I saw that this pic had been posted by another friend already before me.

It's getting around, at least on the Internet.

No doubt. Akihabara is like the anti-GameStop. Games are clean, scratch free, and are in generally immaculate condition. I bring an extra suitcase for game shopping every time I visit!

if someone who lives in japan could talk about this id love to read about it; mainly id like to know the type of action a consumer in japan would take if they felt like they were being betrayed somehow (if they would do anything at all).

I was around there two summers ago, but my experience with video games was mainly checking out a sega arcade or playing these great dart machines they had.

So you delete old ones and install new ones, like you would do on any digital device. I have to do it on my Vita all the time (went all digital for that as well)

Still though, you don't want to get rid of your discs ever unless they let you download the games tied to your account for free, although I doubt that happening since they can charge for GoD versions.

Hey guys, I have no intention of buying this thing, but Im joining the fight. Going to broadcast this message and get word out.
Keep up the good fight guys!

Isnt that what they said their plan was?

OP here.

I'm punching out for a few. If any of you feel that something else needs to be added to the OP, please PM me, and I'll add it when I return.

For everyone that has supported this thus far, I appreciate your effort!

I'm sure you can re-download games that you've activated (OR re-load them from the disc)..... this whole thing would be even more stupid if you couldn't.

Could you imagine a world where MS does exactly what Steam is doing? A world where people PRAISE MS?!

God helps us all...

Steam enabled titles can be opened up to competition, where companies who put their games on Steam can also side-step Valve entirely and work directly with other storefronts, etc and Valve doesn't get a dime even when their own bandwidth and service suites are being used. This is how come you see year-round wacky ass sales on Amazon, GMG, Gamersgate, various bundle sites, etc.

Do you think there is any remote chance in hell that MS, or any of these publicly traded companies would open themselves up and allow themselves to be cut out of any profit circle like that? It ain't gonna happen.

Maybe MS is smart enough to realize this. If the XBone is region locked anyway maybe the Japan/Asia edition of the console won't have always online, mandatory kinnect and the horrible DRM. Would be interesting if they went that route. They are dead in the water without it though since there aren't any nation-wide chains like gamestop that deal with used games.

The biggest issue I have is that retailers are not making consumers aware of these issues. Especially the fact that you need an Internet connection, I personally know 3 people who have pre ordered the xbox one and don't have the Internet.

Has anyone pointed out that some of those bullet points are incorrect yet?

Nah, people are too busy posting from their 56k connections to keep up with that.

Last thing I will say on the matter, all of this is an eventuality. Just because Sony is not doing this (heck we have no idea) right now, does not mean it wont happen in the future regardless of how Xbox One performs. Many of you in this very thread have expressed interest in the all digital future, well this is a by product of an all digital future. Steam has done this and they have great sales that keep people happy, we do not know if MS will follow the same model, however IF they do, then personally I cannot complain.

The only thing that I dont like out of this that stands out, is the 24 hour check that is required.

An important thread. Take a long hard look at that list. Give it a minute or two... let it sink in. Now, think back about how you could share games with buddies, rent, etc. Step outside of that box of which corporation you prefer and look at this list from the perspective of someone who just wants to pop in a game and play it with no bullshit involved. Remember popping in a game on the Atari 2600, NES, the Genesis? Hell, the XBOX? Yeah... I thought so.

Before I punch out, I offered ChimpanzeeThat an opportunity to correct the OP. He seems to have declined. If you have grievances with what has been posted, I'll correct them upon my return. Please be specific.
