I have no idea how anyone's supposed to answer this question but I'm going to ask it anyway - will I like this game!? I love the idea of CCGs in general but I invariably turn out to be shit at them. I do however love the hell out of ascension on iOS (it's hands down my mostplayed game on my ipad) but could never get it to any of the other playdek games that were released, I think I like the look of the Blizzard CCG more but I can't work out why.

Is it worth a punt for me? I reckon I'm on the verge of jumping in, I just need someone to give me a push!

Did you check out TotalBiscuit's video I posted earlier? That might win you over.

My luck is TERRIBLE with the random energy scrolls.

Out of about 7 cards purchased I think 4-5 were ember bonds, 2 were iron whip, and 2 gravelock outcasts. I got a Gravelock elder after like 10 cards, which I assume is rarer.

Also Mojang if you're reading, I really wish this didn't have the always online thing...I've had two or three times where my connection has dropped out which instantly locks up the interface, and I'd like to at least be able to mess with decks or play singleplayer if possible. :)

There is no way in Hell I am able to win this...

Whatever I play, he kills it almost in an instance. And this is supposed to be an 'easy' challenge...

I've played 3 multiplayer matches so far and I've lost all 3 of 'em. Reconstructed my deck many times but I keep losing, even in a Medium level Quick Match, haha. I suck at this.

The backline is your friend.

Solid first day: won 3 of my first 5 online games and was able to strengthen my team a little bit. The AI (overpowered imo for easy trials) is still tough to beat, but i'm on the right track.

Really like it so far, only thing i hope they add shortly is a friendslist. Would make many things much easier.

No way am I gonna bother saving up for a second starter deck. If you post in trade chat that you'll pay gold for people's extra commons, you'll have whatever you need in seconds.

Works with rares too, but obviously you pay more and they can take longer to find for sale.

I'm just spamming energy random purchases when I have gold, and I'm finally starting to get some cards I haven't seen, like End of Reason.

I think the only "easy" trial I lost so far was because the game crashed on the first turn and it counted it as a game played but not won. :p

Yeah, the stat tracking isn't very smart. It added to my surrender count (and losses) because I accidentally clicked on the tutorial and then backed out of it.

I've been buying packs of 10 scrolls with my gold. Wanting to trade my uncommon/rare finds for uncommon/rare Order cards to boost my deck. My in-game name is maladr0it, add me if you are interested!

I don't think the game has a friends list yet but stop by the Neogaf in-game channel and we can trade.

Edit: I'm not looking to offload any order cards but I could give you gold for stuff you don't want.

Even though I know my stats will tank horribly when I start playing online, the fact that I got a surrender for leaving the tutorial makes me sad :p.

Bought the game and tried it out. The gameplay is pretty good, but the game features are a little bit barebones.

Kinda thinking the actual worth of draw cards because you can choose to discard one and draw two every round. Games usually last ~20 rounds and you usually don't need a lot of resources (7-8 is the maximum you really need probably?). So that that means at the moment the game seems to favor mid-slow decks and there isn't really a real need to put resource cards unless you're playing multiple resources.

So then the decision with draw cards is usually do i want to just discard and draw two or play this card? If the card is just another draw one card, it feels like unless the card is really worth casting, you'd just want to discard it and draw another two anyway. That means cycling cards are more on the bad side unless you really want to use the ability.

The other important resource is also turns, or countdown, since every unit attacks at a predefined cycle of turns. Haven't really figured how to work that out since I'm mostly just throwing guys out now, but it should be a pretty important factor in deck building. It kind of adds another dimension to the strategy and I'll need to play more games to really grasp how to make it work.

The core mechanics of the game is pretty good I think. It definitely has some of that "easy to play, difficult to master" thing going on, but the combination of cards and the hex grid can sure be daunting. I think most people getting into the game will mostly lose because the hex grid and how units can move around is much more foreign.

Never played SolForge, but from the videos, this seems like a much better version of that.

After watching a few videos and reading more about this, I think I'll jump in. Really dig the combination of cards + hex combat, makes it more interesting to me than the usual CCG. Only thing I don't like is the low variety of cards at the moment, but that'll undoubtedly become less of an issue over time. Hopefully they'll be able to keep a steady stream of interesting cards coming out.

Now to decide between Growth or Energy.

He claimed that right now to get into beta you have to pretty much pay a bit of cash. Whether Scrolls' will step onto F2P monetization land or not is unknown right now, so he skipped commenting on this in his video.

I'm saving my gold up for the Decay starter bound to come out in the near future. I still haven't played against another player yet - but I'm liking the PvE part.

Nice thoughts Totakeke. As far as draw cards go, using Eye of Eagle as an example, I can cast it and also sacrifice a different card so I can draw 3 more cards that turn, and one's guaranteed to be a creature. Or sac for mana and still cast it to draw a card. By putting 3 in a 50 card deck I'm sort of thinning it down to 47 so I can get valuable cards a little sooner. Is it worth it? I'm not really sure.

Erm... guys, could anyone lend me Scrolls to test whether it's playable at my place of work or not? Some UDPs are blocked here, and I doubt I'm going to spend time playing Scrolls while at home.

Do structures have a move of 0 or are they immovable?

edit : Immovable seems more likely.

There are possibilities to 'move' structures with cards, but it is often a bit random :p so you must be careful when placing them in the first place so that they don't stop you 'moving' units to move properly on the board.

I played a game last night where I wasn't careful with that and locked myself in the lower half of the board ..... it was a pain xD

I got owned in the only online games I played, and I finally lost a trial when I started the medium one. The ranged one was giving me a lot of grief until I changed my deck a little, though maybe I just started getting lucky.

With Energy, I had maybe 15-17 creatures and 25+ spells, and I felt like that had way too few creatures. I threw all the little gnome things back in and got myself a single growth card (uncommon or rare, lucky me) so I have the option to heal the special gnomes if I get any surviving on the field.

Here are some deck-building filter tips, presumably things that haven't made it into the user interface yet: http://imgur.com/a/biF7J
You can also hold the mouse button down and it will select a stack of cards.

How do Mojang games work?

Are they DRM free? Do you just download them from the website, install, and you are done?

Has there ever been a sale on Minecraft?

There has never being a sale ever for Minecraft. The way they work is you buy early to get a discount in alpha/beta and it becomes more expensive as time goes on and 'full price' when out of beta.

So its best to buy now if you want the cheapest price.

There's never been a sale on Minecraft that I know of, other than the same thing this (and Cobalt?) are doing -- if you preorder during alpha or beta, you get the game at a cheaper price. If you order after release, it's more expensive. If you order early, you get free updates as they patch things in.

Minecraft had DRM to play online but I don't -think- there are any problems with playing offline. It's been quite a while since I've played Minecraft so I may be wrong. Scrolls seems to have some always-online system. If you ever lose connection the UI locks up and the game seems almost certain to crash. If you were in a game it will be lost etc.

You run the game as an executable/login/patcher rolled into one, so if a new version shows up it patches itself like League of Legends.

I hope they will add an offline system just in case people want to play against the AI or do trials for experimenting with decks, but I don't know if it's in the works or not.

Am I right in assuming that you don't need more than 3 of any card? Because you can only have 3 of a kind per deck, and you can use them across multiple decks.

Minecraft allows you to play offline as long as you were able to log-in online at least once on the computer you are trying to play.
After that If you are offline when you try to log in or their authentication servers are messy at the time you will be given the option to play offline.

You can re-download it any number of times and put it on any number of computers you want since everything is tied to your (now) Mojang account and you need to log-in.

Scrolls seems online-only at the moment (and that is a bit of a bummer), but i'm not sure about what you say if you get disconnected, I had an opponent yesterday that disconnected during his turn (it was indicated in the chat) the timer of his turn kept on going and he re-connected before the end of it and could resume as if nothing happened.
Maybe you have at least that time to get back in.

Yeah, if you have 4 or more of a card just sell or trade the extras away. You can sell stuff back to the CPU in the shop for a small amount of gold.

You can reuse your first 3 in as many decks as you want.

Do used scrolls get shuffled back in your deck once you use them all? I'm guessing they do because I have played a few long games and never decked out.

Edit: Yep, just read on the wiki. Your graveyard is shuffled and becomes your new library. I think I need to get my deck down to 50 cards.

There was one sale for Notch's wedding.

I was saving for a new deck, but now, I don't know. Maybe I will buy ten-card packs instead.

Everything in the store can be earned with in-game currency. The booster card packs aren't even purchasable with real money.

I do realize that, but the fact stays the same - there is microtransaction in this game. And I don't really a huge fan of games that have pay-in price and additional content you can pay for. They may be just shortcuts for people who want to skip the whole gambling / trading process of acquiring cards they are looking for, but from the balance perspective that looks a bit unfair, especially when whole the game is all about 1v1 matches.

Well, that sucks, any words about DRM?

There's none, beside always online requirement of course.

I bought the game and i assume you the game doesn't have micro-transactions that give you an advantage over another player.

These are two screenies i took of the store. The only thing you can pay real money for in terms of Scrolls in a starter deck and one of the 6 weekly 'deals'. The rest are just cosmetic avatars. You can only buy 1 of those weekly deals each as they get 'sold out' so you can't buy heaps of them.

You cannot buy cards with the exception of the other two starter packs and six random face up cards that refresh once a week (and you can only buy one copy of each of them). All this can also be purchased with in game currency. You have no advantage over people who don't pay.

So try number 2 with my energy + growth deck was much more successful. I got the energy structure out that gives me a free growth point and sac'd one other card for growth. The 2 points in growth let me cast the buffs that got in my hand. Growth attack buffs plus Energy cooldown reduction spells meant doing tons of damage once I had my creatures out. I wiped out 2 creatures and an idol in one round with a bear buff + fury.

Digging the synergy. Need more cards to really make it great.

I want to try this once I get some more energy cards. How many of each type do you have in your deck?

Trying to build an energy and order deck, but I don't think it's working out so well.

I need to watch totalbuscuits video, but I am intrigued. I still enjoy a game of Magic now and again and like the idea of an online card game. Would make it easier to play with my friends if I can get them into the game.

I want to try Order, but it seems like no one is talking about here? Based on the type of decks I use in Magic it seems like best fit for me. I see a lot more discussion about Energy and Growth. Is Order a bit underpowered at the moment or something? Also, how many dublicate cards can you have in a deck (eg you can have 4 in Magic)?

Maybe I am thinking about this game too much in terms of Magic, but it is the only thing I have to go off at the moment!

Yeah I want to make an Energy + Growth Graveling deck.
I was thinking something like this could work well.

Are there any good rules of thumb for what the max deck size should be (if there's a limit)? I guess you want to keep it as close to 50 as possible to make things less random. Also, are there any good rules of thumb for what percentage of your deck should be creatures so you don't find yourself stuck with spells?

You can only have 3 of each type of card. Order seems pretty strong to me if you can get a general or two out surrounded by soldiers. Usually with energy I am very slow to get setup, so if the enemy gets a few soldiers out early I can't wipe them out fast enough to prevent their health from growing and a general from showing up in the middle.
