I wonder if Sony is aware of the expectations on them for this show. Between the quality of their reveal, all the subsequent good news about PS4, and Microsoft's atrocious handling of the XBO so far all eyes are on them to blow us away.

True enough. I waited almost an entire year to buy my 3DS. In retrospect, it ended up being a really good idea, since all the major games started coming out right around the same time I picked it up. If I had bought it at launch, I probably would've gotten frustrated during the summer drought and traded it in.

Here's hoping the PS4 starts at closer to $350 or $400 than $500 though. A $350 launch price might override my pessimism and get a purchase at day one even if they don't have a major launch RPG.
The number was just including console, games, accessories, etc. Just ballparking it. I want the console cheap too.

If you mention pessimism one more time, I will need anti depressants.

Destiny, I will admit seemed to start out at a very very low burn for me. I am not STOKED but I have followed those guys since pretty much their first games and almost all of them I have loved. So my fingers are crossed when it comes to Destiny in particular.

Don't normally play fps's, but if there's a decent story to be had here I might be interested in picking this up. The artwork alone has got me taking a second look- we'll see.

Link? I need an infusion of hype.

I apologise, but I'm going to preach a little here.

This is a new gen launch. In an industry where we are diversifying way too much, delivering way too little and making it way too hard for people to enjoy gaming for what it is, it is a chance to stop and reset. Above all, it's a chance to show the gaming community what game creators, system designers and industry leaders have learnt since 2005.

For Sony, it is as much a revitalisation of their industry as well as a chance to show it still belongs in this game. Everyone at Sony knows they dropped the ball this gen and many inside have been waiting a long time to rectify that. I spoke to a dev in Frankfurt last month who admitted that almost everything that has gone wrong with his studios games has been a result of trying to force games down strictly defined paths brought on by limited hardware and mostly, really bad ideas. He wants gamers to reconnect, to feel enthusiastic again and he wants Sony to start making fun games once more.

Hyperbole? Maybe. I guess the proof is coming soon. I have seen much to keep me very optimistic. But the chance to reconnect with gamers again will have Sony and MS showing more than just titles for this holiday launch. Everyone remembers 2005 and 2006 E3's as setting up the consoles for this gen. So will this E3 define the start of next gen.

In Sony's case, it's about redemption.

They have more PS4 trailer footage than time to allocate. If they show any PS3/Vita games at the main conference, I would be surprised.
Does anyone know what the sound of 2500 jaws hitting the floor at the same time sounds like?

You soon will.

There are so many really frustrated devs at the moment who will be trying to gain attention for some damn amazing work over the next few days, and its getting drowned in (justifiably) negative shit.

If the industry decides to allow corporate wanks to throw handbags at 10 paces, then let them. Let's remember what makes us excited about working and playing in this field. Hype it up!

And let Nomura's Return be EPIC :)

Come on man. This is a new console reveal. They certainly know the expectations are high.

Just saw this mockup posted on twitter:

I like how all mockups have crazy vents all over the place. I am afraid I havent liked a single one made yet.[/QUOTE]

I just hope it has some neat blue lights accenting the design, like the light bar on the controller or the power button on the Vita, I love little things like that.

Gopher's post where he talks about Sony's goal being redemption is the one that psychs me up the most. I really hope we get a wide variety of games tomorrow. I want to see what this motherfucker can do in every genre.

If they want redemption then they better not implement any of the DRM systems that MS has done.

Oh, that makes perfect sense. When I bought my Wii, I probably spent upwards of $500 on the whole package. We got four controllers, Zelda, Excite Truck and one or two other games. Agreed.

Regarding Sony's awareness of the expectations...I would say they absolutely have to be. Microsoft's basically showing a giant, flashing red weak spot and there's a target over it going "SHOOT ME!" It'd be mind-boggling if they didn't have some way to take advantage of that weakness right now.

I hope they reveal the PS4 looks right at the beginning of the Sony conference. They open up the stage and BAM SUDDENLY NOCTIS IS SKATING IN ON A PS4 ON STAGE! SEPHIROTH DESCENDS FROM HEAVEN AND PLAYS A MEAN SAXOPHONE!

Best E3 in forever.
