Call of Duty Ghosts Next-Gen Gameplay

It is a bit funny how much people fight for 60fps in their games and will go up and down about how cuts to graphics are necessary to meet that 60fps standard (see every single Platinum game thread) ... but as soon as that game is Call of Duty...its a damn dog pile

I definitely agree with this.

Like I said though, if EA actually manages to get BF4 running at 60fps on console then we'll have a discussion on our hands.

The Battlefield 4 reveal was better in every way.

But there is a market for this type of game. People are excited about it and keep buying 'em.

I have a strong suspicion that they are really going to push the player to feel camaraderie with the dog and then have him die in battle. LAME LAME LAME, please be original. Don't do it whoever is writing the script!

Hope it's the exact opposite,
and the last mission has you go Rambo as Dog.

I'm only half-joking.

These games where the player becomes a drone reacting to the commands of an AI instead of its own agency are despicable game design that should go away.

This was terribly underwhelming .... I really wouldn't say this is next-gen.

Yeah, can we get a solid 60fps shooter with great controls like COD that isn't COD? One of the biggest strengths of this franchise is 60fps, but it's competitors still don't get it. Killzone Shadowfall for example is 30fps. Fucking fail.

Its like they only just mastered the mo-cap stuff and now they will ram it down our throats until the next latest bandwagon comes along for activision to jump on.
It more of the same again, my heart sank a little when I heard the idiot proof voice work, instructing you on how to swim and follow the diver in front. The dog is a cool addition, even has an ear piece.
The problem is how to deliver a experience the hardcore gamer will enjoy as much as the folks that only buy 2 or 3 games a year.
Hiring hollywood writers and directors for a game is not the way to go, the charecters in games still look very fake and wooden and the shit writing compounds the problem, let cod be a shooting gallery with hooky game mechanics, and spot on audio that is how to draw us in, don't drag us through by the nose once again please.

I thought it might have been my tablet screen that left me under whelmed, so I reserved judgement until I could see it on my desktop.

Still under whelmed. Also that monotone voice in my ear all the time is annoying as hell.

First off, this all looks so utterly boring that I couldn't even finish watching it.

Also, those of you saying "This doesn't look next gen," what are you talking about? Is there some benchmark you're comparing this to? This looks next gen because this is next gen. This is the COD coming out on next-gen hardware. It may not look like what you expected, but by definition it is exactly next gen.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
It's such a stupid design decision, and it takes away from the graphics, and it makes EVERY GAME LOOK LIKE THE ONE BEFORE.

You'd think that'd be the first thing they change.

It's because it's still the ol' gun on a stick model... until they truly implement first person body (and allow you to look around independent of your weapon, as you can in Arma) we're stuck with this.

To do it right requires a few different stances. There are times when your weapon is readied, the position between relaxed and ironsights, that probably would look somewhat like what's seen in the average FPS. And if you're only going to implement one stance in your game, that's the one you use, and that's the one we most often see.

A dev has to care enough to make it realistic, and add different stances (or fake it)... but CoD and most shooters are arcade-like twitch stuff, and I don't think Infinity Ward is gonna blaze that trail, sorry.

Getting mad they don't is a little silly, since it's an unrealistic expectation of this particular developer.

I think they did this because they won't be present during the MS press conference. Respawn will be there showing off their exclusive game, and I doubt MS wants an awkward situation with the Respawn and IW teams in the same event.

Activision's motivation aside, my point of contention is with Geoff Keighley standing there like he's pimping ShamWow.

It was as boring as the Killzone Shadow Fall reveal (gameplay wise). Booooo. :(

Killzone Shadow Fall would have been much cooler if it were an open world shooter. They created that massive, beautiful world and you're STILL confined to small play areas and a linear path. Imagine if you could jump into an air vehicle and jet off to various conflicts around the world and help turn the tide of battle. That's the game I want to play.

The dog gameplay is garbage. Really, a bunch of soldiers with guns are afraid and try to run away from a single dog? Not like it matters, it's all about the MP. Need to show that.

Holy shit that bored me out of my tits.

Almost fell asleep at the underwater part.

And then they drag it on with their ultra widescreen version of the whole footage we just saw before...

It's nice that Activision actually cares about it's fans and shows them that stuff, but after all I've seen, I'm not impressed, the few Minutes of BF4 where more interesting it's also looking much better.

what if at the end the human dies and you have to kill enemy boss as riley? and you get to play a helicopter.
I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Bonus points if Riley flies the helicopter.

RAGE has horrible texture pop-in on console though, and pretty much no dynamic lighting effects going on.
Well its arguably an open world at full 720p (and variable resolution during intense situations like TTT2). Even if you don't count it as such some of the areas are hundreds of times larger (and fairly detailed) than Call of Duty. Doom 3 is 60fps with fully dynamic lighting. CoD is right in the middle. I'm not trying to argue with anyone, just pointing out it can and has been done.

I don't get why devs insist on out FXing CoD. It can't be that hard to get 60fps at 600p.

Can anyone honestly still muster up excitement for any FPS, assuming they started in the 90s? I sure as hell can't unless its with friends.
The open parts of Battlefield 4 looked good. Where there was actual player-driven action and not just running and chatter and dodging scripted gunfire and explosions.

Based upon what I've seen: Battlefield 4 > Killzone > > > > COD. But I expect Killzone to be the best of the bunch because of decent AI.

I don't think that's possible you need that WiiU GamePad ingame to control the dog, and if your main character is dead, who would pick up the GamePad?!

That trailer music sounds like a TV ad for the US Olympics lol. Guess it's not a bad thing. the game honestly doesn't look bad. It's just so same-y I can't see myself even giving it the 6-10 hours it asks for SP.

CoD: Fish Chasing Simulator

You wanted gameplay variety? Now you have it.
I want a fishing chapter where you actually fish, and your soldier gets drunk and pisses in someones sleeping bag, then you have to slo-mo fight while piss goes all over your screen.

Yeah. Graphics aren't the concern. The dog gameplay where you play the dog with someone talking to you is massively stupid.

Watched the whole thing, I know I am in the minority but I think it looked just spectacular. Sure it's scripted, rails and Jerry Bruckheimer but I am a sucker for big scenes. In fact, I can not comprehend how they have time to build and orchestrate all those massive set pieces in just two years. Must be a crazy production pipeline.

Pretty much what I was expecting from a Call of Duty game. The first batch of next-gen games will outshine COD by a long shot.

When it's a game like the new Wolfenstein focusing on its campaign and big, visually powerful weapons, hell yeah I can. Or Killzone Shadow Fall which, despite looking a bit boring in its initial reveal, should still have the solid AI and great animations of its predecessors. Hell, if a game was announced from a reputable dev naming F.E.A.R. as it's inspiration in terms of gameplay, it would automatically jump to the top of my hype list.

CoD announcements and Battlefield campaign trailers don't excite me though, no.

So Doom 3 looks better? What? And i'm sure Ghosts will be 1080p.

So now your argument that Rage has better graphics has been changed to it being about resolution? Rage dips below 720p a lot of the time to maintain 60fps. Also, it sure as hell isnt an open world game by any stretch. Theres a map you drive around between hubs, but calling that open world is laughable.

Are people here who are shocked that this cross gen game doesnt look great on the new hardware 5 years old? Have you never seen a generation of new consoles released? Cross gen games never have a super special build just for new hardware, ProTip Madden wont be look any/much better on the new hardware for a few years...even then ...maybe.

If all next gen console games look like this, than it's going go be a tough sell for a lot of gamers.
This is true.

But heavily compressed YouTube, IGN and GameTrailers videos can't do next-gen games justice. People will need to see the games running in native 1080p at 60fps on a TV screen to see the huge improvements in IQ and AA.

CoD going from 600p to (I assume/hope) 1080p is a huge jump.

Guys, I'm saying there are other games that look good at 60, no need to get all Riley-ed up. I imagine if other games ran at 600p wiith VSync off they could hit 60 too but everyone wants to get awards for special FX instead.

I'm not a CoD hater either, I've been playing since MW.

If they didn't harp on the next-gen of it all I could give it a pass as a transitional Call of Duty. A game made with current consoles as the focus, but the marketing bullshit is just too hilarious. Especially when they advertise it on a shitty 720p live stream with compression artifacts. It literally looks like Black Ops 2, and the tech they decide to expose is way old news. Interested to see if the gameplay goes anywhere. I'll play the multiplayer for a good month with my friends like I always do, but everything surrounding this game just seems desperate and corporate as fuck.

Ugh, this is the EXACT mission I have played in endless CODs, just underwater. So friggin boring. I honestly cannot believe how much people eat this garbage up. It is not fun to watch and is even more annoying to play! Didn't even look as good as you'd hope! Maybe direct feed will be better, but it will still be a pretty snoozefest.
