Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

Blotches are in games with dark areas constantly on the screen such as Thomas was Alone. I can live with it though, it's just slightly annoying.

You are right about the price comparison though...retina devices are 3x as much.

Did you recently get a Vita? I really only noticed them in the beginning and very rarely after that, like once a month I'll notice.... It has been a year, I'm not sure if the spots faded or I just notice them less.... I know what you mean, that second when you go from totally forgetting about them to remembering they exist is a bit of a let down. But as soon as an image appears, I'm happy again :p

Yeah mobile is pricey but people tend to forget that - due to the contracts sucking the cash a bit slowly, not all people here with Vitas will have them I don't think.

It sort of does a fair amount of what the phones do too, I was able to manage on a really terrible old nokia for a long time while I had my Vita hah.

--btw I was going through that "best communities thread" and saw quite a few VitaGAF mentions, which is pretty awesome.

Yup,this qHD OLED isn't exactly worth it when pretty much all the high end games are sub native res with no AA and AF.This is why I hope Sony would mandate a native res,2*AA and at least a locked 30 FPS requirement. Those blotches don't help either.

I love my Vita but what exactly is so great about the OLED screen...3D games (Gravity Rush, UCGA, etc...) look jaggy as hell, even the home screen on the vita is jaggy...kinda wish they didnt use circular shapes for icons.

This is not a rule and not because of the screen, it depend on the game and the developers, NLKS is native res with 4xAA there is no jaggies and it sharp and clean (same with titles like Virtua Tennis 4, Wipeout 2048, FIFA 13 and few other)

Those franchises NEED to come back do they? For what reason? For you - so you can finally be happy about a game coming to Vita? For the general consumer who wants big name franchises on the machine? For Sony who actually want to make money? Stop trying to pass off your opinion as fact - it is endlessly tiring.

And it's different because it's a game you want, no other reason.

I don't know about you, but I REALLY would love a new Colony Wars for Vita or the Fizzo.

The thing about the vita is that it's the first real portable platform with a high-density screen as well as the inputs necessary and decent enough power for basically any game from previous gens to be played enjoyably on it.

A lot of people here got the Vita because it's not just a way to play extra games. There are so many games in this world. There are too many for most people. Vita lets you play them conveniently.
I know people complain about the graphics with some of these early games but despite being a graphics whore myself, I'm still amazed by NFS:MW, Gravity Rush, UC - whenever I go back to play them. I think yeah there are jaggies it's not perfect, but dayum - I'm playing this in my hands.

But to the point, it becomes really frustrating [it's not like you can just turn on the system next to the vita to play them] not having your favourite games available, when you prefer vita so much.

Sonic Generations pc/console port (wet dream 60fps)
Alien Hominid
Sim City
Super Meat Boy

Okay some will sell better than others and none will probably sell great at this point, especially before price drops and PS4 momentum, but yeah it's like a slap in the face punch to the guts everyday they don't exist on Vita :p And I easily forgive people constantly port begging to the platform here...where else can we :p I know I do it too much already, kept the list short.

Vita is like how I considered my steam library before, my new gaming home (main machine) and it has been for a while. Not sure how that will change when PS4 is out but it won't be any less useful as a platform for any game in portable form.

If the wishlist is still cranking, I'd certainly like Koei to port/do a few of their strategy titles for Vita. Give me some of that localised Nobunaga's Ambition, some RotTK action, a new Aerobiz, some Uncharted Waters...

...can coincide with some tablet releases, whatever.

Also, bring me a Vita version of the PS3's Under Siege slice of goodness. Portable Myth, essentially.

Sure, I'd like it - but does it NEED to come back? I'm not sure

As someone who has been gaming with playstation for a long time there are a ton of Sony IPs that I want to make a return. To be honest I dont know if they would "Need" to come back from grave, but as a fan I would be over joyed at the return of some of my favorite dormant Sony IPs.

Games like:
Alundra
Legend of Dragoon
Arc the Lad
Dark Cloud
The mark of Kri
Wild Arms
Etc

Sony just has a ton of IP that they have let go by the wayside, and its alittle disappointing at times because of how good some of these games could be if brought to curreng/next gen system, or entirely made into franchises for the Vita exclusively.

With all Sonys talk of bringing back the old days, im really hoping to see some of these great franchises brought back to life.

That's my point! I'd like to see them (if they were good) but I'm not sure Sony needs something like Wild Arms to come back...

anyone know if those guys are any good?

hopefully krillin is dece in this game

I found their previous Vita game, Gundam Seed Battle Destiny, pretty good. Visuals were okay and it was running on the default Vita resolution for as far as I could tell. The game was also full of content, pretty sure I got over 100 hours out of it. So to answer your question, I think they are a dencent developer but they aren't that well know outside of Japan.

So I own Monster Hunter 3 on 3DS and I think it's shit. No tutorial, bonkers design, weird corridor world, no damage feedback on monsters, endless grinding etc

Would I get any enjoyment at all out of Soul Sacrifice?

The two really aren't the same at all. I played about a dozen hours of MH on the PSP and really didnt care for it.

I thought the story was actually pretty neat in Soul Sacrifice. Game gets way too hard for me at the very end but I suck at these kind of games.

Not sure how active the multiplayer stuff still is this late though.

Thanks man - is the core gameplay similar? Mon Hun felt kind of.. directionless for me, so hearing there's a story is nice. I probably wouldn't play the MP - maybe give it a shot.

There's a content-packed demo for SS on the store, your best bet is probably to try that. Personally I didn't like MH and I couldn't get into SS either.

I only have a 4gb card unfortunately - full of stuff so no room for the demo :( Maybe when I get an 8gb

I don't like monster hunter too, i think that the best game for people like us is god eater burst(and probably god eater 2), it has good story, fights are not long, you start directly in the battlefield, you have comrades and so on.
Toukiden and soul sacrifice seems to have all those features too, but their fights take too much time for me(like monster hunter).

Soul Sacrifice missions don't take long at all IMO. Most can be done in less than 10 minutes if you have the right equipment or are willing to take risks. You'll want to stay away from Toukiden though.

Hi,

I've been thinking about picking up a Vita and wanted to know if it's possible to get the PSP version of OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast on it? I think not right?
Sega's had license problems and stuff happened, but then I wonder why Sony still has this page online with a "Buy Download" button.
It even lets you choose the platform (PSP or PSV) and then tells me to go to the PSV PS Store. Is this just a sadly mistake?
Thanks.

I don't see it on the Vita storefront, it might be transferable though

The story alone is worth the price of admission. For a game with no cutscenes, I really liked it. And I think anyone can get into it. It does get hard so you'll need to grind a little to get more powerful attacks and more use out of them.

As a game (as opposed to an addiction) I feel like Soul Sacrifice is better than MH3U (which for some absurd reason I own on the wii u and 3ds). MH3U is better if get hooked as it's pretty gigantic.

The addition of a story gives soul sacrifice a, um, soul. But at the end of the day neither game has deep rpg mechanics and basically zero exploration. That's my big trip up with the genre. I want it to be a rpg. I want to explore. These games aren't that. They are arena fighters. They both got stale for me around the 10 hour mark. But i liked soul sacrifice more.

That settles it for me then - I won't get it. I love exploring - it's my favourite thing to do in every game ever, and sometimes the sole reason I buy them at all.

Anything that fits that kind of bill on the Vita?

I agree.^ I'm about 12hrs into SS. Online is pretty fun though and I've spent a couple of hours on that so it's not just Singleplayer. Thing is, you have to level up in order to keep up online. Most players have reached the level cap or are simply far more skilled at the game than me. :p

Having played MH3's 3ds demo, I didn't like it. No second analog is a big no no and I can't really fathom how people say its a non-issue.

Yeah, Soul Sacrifice has really good combat and all, but I just can't get into it. Its JUST combat. I want something more out of it.

To be honest hunting games do'n't really have exploration the highlight of the game are the boss fight. I've put over 120+ hours into and have friends who put 200+ hours. Even God Eater Burst I've put 60+ hours into it and it had less area the soul sacrifice and monster hunter and that game didn't have online.

Also party chat is a must and makes everything better.

Isn't Keiji Inafune said he was talking with Sony about Soul Sacrifice sequel.

I hope that he doesn't make a direct sequel but something more of a spiritual sequel using the same engine and combat, which I really liked. but I feel that the game need a new art direction and settings to attract a wider audience in the sequel.

Feel the same. I really do think the grind would atleast be hidden if it weren't arena based. Having played both recently, I feel I've grown out of MH's time sink commitment. I just can't spend 400 hours on a single game anymore.

Sadly SS took the grind thing to a new level and although I highly enjoyed the game and also the fast paced changes it brought to the hunting genre, I just can't commit to more than a few hours a week at this stage and the grind, although slightly more optional than MH, is killing the enjoyment.
