DEEP DOWN - PS4 Exclusive, Random Dungeons+Monsters, Online Only play @ TGS

I find it strange that Sony engineers are helping given all the talk of making development easier with ps4, and wouldn't that suggest a more long term partnership if if they plan on using this engine for many games? Looks like this one could be good.

Looks good.

But only online and random generated Dungeons? No thanks!

This seems to be more a graphic demo than a full fledged game to me.

Super impressed by this game. Even more impressed that Capcom still gives Sony the time of day. As for the multiplayer part, is it gonna be like journey where you can interact with others while playing through a single player story or is it straight up mmo-like>

So if Sony is helping with this engine, does it mean that all future games made with this engine are exclusive? Would be pretty weird decision to develop a new engine for only 1 platform.

More likely in the capacity of getting it "to work well" on the PS4 rather than helping develop the engine overall.

Highly doubt it since SCE engineers are helping them with this engine.
So are you suggesting Capcom's next gen engine will stay PS4 exclusive? That was the basis of my previous post, and frankly I think it's a ridiculous assumption.

The environments look a bit rough from what I can make out. Random dungeons sound horrendous. But I'm still interested.

Naw. This isn't that new, Sony has helped or codeveloped engines before.

Can't really make heads or tails from the video, tbh.

Everyone complaining about online only... One might complain about BF or COD since who honestly buys those games for tacked on SP? Rather than having a tacked-on MP the game is designed with it in mind. I'm keeping an open mind. Not every game has to be the same old thing.

Looks great, but why online only?
I'm basically deciding never to get any online only games on any platform now. I hate this trend.

True, and lots of people will have fun with it. Online only is just not to my personal preference. *shrugs*

but would be a coup if indeed that was what Sony were after....

(not saying it is, but its plausible)...

Not at all, I think only Deep Down will stay exclusive and possibly a timed-exclusive at that. I'm also suggesting DR3 not using the same engine that Deep Down is using.

Easy to start with doesn't mean high end development is going to suddenly be easy. Development at this end of the spectrum will still need good talent and lower level hardware awareness.

To me, this is the most interesting announced PS4 exclusive. However, I can't really believe that the gameplay has much in common with the Souls series - those games are built on their intricate level design.

Huge downgrade graphically from the reveal (probably cause it was running on dem NV cards) and exclusive to one platform. This game officially doesn't exist for me anymore.

This doesn't mean it isn't easier, because someone else is helping.

After all, Sony has made the platform, they have the expert knowledge of it and should know even at this early stage how to get as much out of it as possible.

Therefore it makes great sense that they help third parties with their engines as it ensures that the engines that will be used for many PS4 games to come will be up to speed much earlier and should also allow them to begin to take advantage of the unique features of the console from a much earlier stage.

Nope no downgrade and also, hyperbole much?

What's wrong with random & online-only... geez.

Randomly generated dungeons are hard to pull off (at least if you want dungeons that are actually fun to play), so people are skeptical.

I'll reserve my judgement until I see more of it.

The music in the trailer is great. It reminds me of some of the music from the OST of this anime, Noir, and this song, Fall Out the Sky by XV.

Thank you for posting fellow GAFfer.

Just saw it now and I feel I saw it later than many GAFfers but I'm hyped for this game, can't wait to see more of it and try the gameplay by myself. This is going to be amazing.

It also reminded me of Yuki Kajiura. Maybe it was really by her. The games theme is also kinda Hack Sign like (Kajiura made music for the anime).

True, but combat and customization are also big parts of it.

Capcom having done Dragons Dogma already means they have my support here. Intricate level design was NOT the draw there, just the above plus team based combat using AI. still VERY much worth a buy.

If it has good combat and the difficulty of Demon/Dark Souls the randomized loot and dungeon structure with co-op play is going to be addictive as shit.

If however, the difficulty is lame-easy and the combat isn't fun, randomized dungeons aren't fun.

From what I saw, the game looks great. Sony got the better half of Capcom if Deep Down vs. Dead Rising 3 is any indication.

What's with all these peoples judging the graphics from a hugely compressed video? Was there a high quality stream I'm not aware of or what's going on? I'm not a tech guy but even common sense tells me with that video quality a judgement of the actual graphics is impossible.

What happened to the graphics from the first trailer? Did they have to be dumbed down now that there is no PC version?
