Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

I enjoyed it, to a point.

But surely you can't deny that Muramasa is a repetitive game?

At least Dragon's Crown addressed some of the issues it has.

EVERY.
GAME.
IS.
REPETITIVE.

Sure, I can see some people thinking Muramasa can be repetitive.
But everytime this argument services, it's leads me to the same conclusion... that every game is repetitive...

P4G? Repetitive.
Dragon's Crown? Repetitive.
Rayman Origins? Repetitive.

The core thing that makes people notice or not notice the repetitive nature of a game is whether or not you enjoy the core game mechanics. Now if you like the core mechanics, then it branches out from there to include the possibility of being drawn into the story or being challenged by difficulty, etc.

There's a couple other things that break up the repetitive nature of games, such as extreme variations in gameplay, but these are usually such a curveball that it doesn't work well because it's not the core experience that was focused on by the development team. Like the final boss section of DMC, the space harrier and motorcycle sections of Bayonetta, horrible vehicle sections in FPS/TPS games, etc.

DLC also works, to some extent... but even so, map packs and extra bosses, etc. only go so far and the novelty of the new content wears off sooner rather than later.

Is Call of Duty repetitive? Gears of War? Fuck yes.
Does that stop people (myself included) from spending hundreds of hours playing multiplayer and going through the campaign multiple times? Not one bit.

Spelunky co-op - with a friend (that knows it well), either both on PS3 or one on Vita - is the bestest.

So many jokes. It's the kind of game where you really can't be mad when one of you messes up, even after a long run of meticulous planning and careful movement in unison. Some horrible thing goes wrong, effing you both up and you just stare at the screen for a few seconds... then exchange glances... then crack up. It's magical.

Thank you, Derek Yu!

Hahaha alright, alright, I can understand your point of view too.

I disagree though: for example, in P4G, at least you have the social links, the dating-sim aspect, as well as various other stuff that breaks the monotomy of its dungeon delving. If P4G is *all* about dungeon delving, I, and I am sure many others, would call it highly repetitive (in a negative way) too. Muramasa doesn't have this kind of variation, unlike say, Dragon's Crown where you have different classes and various builds to tackle the game's challenges.

Anyways, I disagree with you, but I can understand where you're coming from.

What is this?

I think the SLINK stuff in P4G has the capacity to become ridiculously monotonous... especially if you've lost interest. I had it happen to me when I had to replay half the game because I missed the item for fighting the secret boss. if it wasn't the last trophy I needed for the platinum, I would have said screw it and deleted the game right then and there... but I have a problem when it comes to getting my platinums. :p

I, for one, am not a Platinum-hunter and I am glad for it. Some of the stuff required in some games to get Platinum would drive me insane, hahaha.

And we won't ever get this on the west, huh? :|

Yoshida said he'd love for this game to come to the west. I think he learn their mistake with Demon Soul fiasco

we didn't get the PSP remake, so yeah we will not get the sequel.

Yoshida says a lot of crap. if he wanted he could've brought the remake years ago but he didn't and I don't see the sequel situation any better, it's actually worse.

Argh I don't know what to do...I find myself looking everyday for second-hand vita prices, new bundles, games etc.. but to be honest I don't find any game that makes me think "I need a vita right now!" ,maeby P4G but I have a save game on PS2 with 20 hours...

Then don't buy a Vita man. Chances are you will regret it.

So I've been playing my Vita a bit more recently. I just downloaded Stranger's Wrath and am hoping it lives up to all the hype I see for it. I was planning to download Soul Reaver, and Crash 2 but I see they're both still missing. It seems like there haven't really been any new PS1 games added since I last checked earlier this year. Do we know if they plan on adding anymore?

While everyone else is posting images, I much as well too. The pic I spoke of earlier in my massive post, the oversized AR cards playing the table tanks game.

For scale reference, that's my size 13 sandal near the middle. For those in Europe and such, using metric, easiest way to say is I'm 188 cm tall.

Only got one more princess left to rescue in Little King's Story. I hated the mountain obstacle course challenge, it showcases some of the issues you can have managing your minions in terms of dodging attacks and ordering/navigating them in tight paths. Luckily there is no boss fight at the end.

Not sure I want to get the plat considering raising the princesses' affection is a huge time sink or extensive use of rubber bands.

Once he tries it he will be one of us :)

If you have any use for it in commute go for it - you will find plenty enjoyable game once you have Vita.

I like SCE games that will never ever get a localization, they always makes me warm inside.

I dunno how P4G did in the US, isn't it still the highest selling JP Vita title? Either way there's a void there that needs patching and since I doubt P5 will come to Playstation anything, I'd like Sony to actually put their back into it ;)

If I told myself 10 years ago that there would be a better chance of Football Manager coming to a Sony console in the US that a JRPG that looks that amazing...I dunno man, I wouldn't want to believe that ;_;

Then again, I have no idea what the gameplay hooks are in Oreshika. Maybe it's SaGa series stuff all over again...(I did like Unlimited Saga though)

I'm pretty sure Football Manager Vita has been confirmed for a US release.

As for Persona 5, I don't see why you wouldn't think it would be a PlayStation game. The real games have never been on non-SCE hardware.

Finally got to play a bit of KZ:M and it's crazy how good this game is. (And I don't even like FPS games anymore..modern FPS games specifically.)

The enemy AI is really fun to play against in the campaign so I hope they patch in bots for offline MP someday. That's the only thing missing as far as I'm concerned.

I went a bit nuts and took some more Muramasa screens:

Love Muramasa. Was bored at first when the enemies were too easy and I hadn't seen much of the world, but as the game progressed the challenge ramped up and the environments become more varied. To say more would be to spoil it for others but the game definitely went beyond my expectations in terms of how many different locations you get to visit.

Well, repetitive is a bad lazy word to describe the lack of variety.

I think I understand his point. And IMO he is not right neither wrong. It's true that everygame is repetitive (not in a bad way), but probably one of the toughest things about game design must be making core mechanics enough diverse to make the game feel fresh while people is not confused.

For example, Uncharted has bang-bang, platforming, some puzzles and cinematics. The main thing is shooting people and feeling that you are in an Indiana Jones film. But somes puzzles here and there and some platforming make it a lot more fresh.

Jak and Daxter, in the other hand, is a 3D platformer when you spend most of the time... well, platforming. And, although the game is cool, I find it repetitive and I only stand this because I have other games to play when I'm getting tired of it.

And there are games that are repetitive because they have to. I'm talking about 2D platformers (Mario or Rayman), driving games, hunting games and maybe even JRPGs (although news are less grindy, shorter, and with more savepoints than a few years ago).

Hey guys, how do I manage to save my PsOne and PSP saves to the cloud? Just got a 32GB and want to move all my saves and games onto it but I can't find a way to store PSOne and PSP saves.

Man. So many good looking games above me. I am particularly interested in Toukiden.

Both Toukiden and Phantasy Star Nova look amazing. But the latter is from Tri-Ace, they always make good looking games.

Over my Dead Body is pretty interesting. I love that japanese art style and I'd love if it comes to EU eventually. They must bring it, a first-party game should be released worldwide no matter what, IMO it's their job to fill genre gaps in their platform. I'm not asking a Multi-5 release in Europe, just English will be enough for a niche game like this one.

Got you beat:

:p

I actually use both of them so I don't have to switch cards, but I think I'll probably put one into storage so it stays in good condition in case my main Vita breaks.

I'm going to do this as well. Not feeling the new Vita

I have that uncheck but it doesn't work :/

For me, downloads continue if I let the Vita go to sleeep byitself but they stop if I press the power button.

speaking of marvel...

dude TAC'd into Dr. Doom and started doing his infinite!

I was cheering him on as my Wesker was dying, but then he dropped the combo :(

I had to kill him for making such a grave mistake

Wow, people got infintites down on the Vita !

I need to get back into Marvel. I recently got back into PS All-Stars and just remembered how much fun the game is.

How is kick beat for all those who have it.

Physical sales only:

[PS] Over My Dead Body - 137,559
[PSP] Over My Dead Body - 124,899

The first game sold very well on PSN in Japan, which is why the PSP remake was made.
That's not too bad actually. Will be interesting to see how this one performs.
