The Wonderful 101 |OT| Diplomacy has failed

Just received this in the mail today. I'm considering keeping it in the wrap until I've fully digested GTA V though. It will be nice to have something new to play and I don't want to get only a couple of hours in only to have to put it aside for one or two weeks.

I have a feeling this game deserves more than that. :)

The best solution is to put GTA aside for a few weeks while you play T101 a few times :p

I'm serious

WHAT!? There's no physical instruction manual? NO, NINTENDO, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I thought this problem was isolated to 3DS! Heck, at least 3DS games get a pamphlet. This gets NOTHING?

Barely. I was hoping for at least 10K on day one. Well, let´s hope for the best.

I've been too 2 different stores and the look is bleek. Target had no stock yesterday and didn't even know about the game other than preorders. Bestbuy didn't have the game out either, they still had the preorder sign up for it. After asking someone they told me they had copies in the back and hadn't put them out yet. NOA needs to get on marketing and air some commercials along with getting materials for posters and billboards to be shown in store. Hope hard becaue it's up to NA to save the day.

I've only thumbed through the secrets so far out of curiousity to what Bayonetta actually did.(I won't spoil) Haven't finished the game yet so I can't comment on strategies though.(I don't want to spoil too much for myself) but it has a full table for Bottlecap requirements and who they go towards unlocking as well as the rank requirements for each ranked verse at each difficulty.

it was 16 dollars when I got it with the game. What I wanted was the secret locations and the requirements so it seems pretty good for that.

Oh there's also a code for an online guide that has search functionality for unlocks. Gonna check that out probably tomorrow when I have time.

One more quation about the guide, how many pages does it have and does it go in good lenght to explain each chapter (like having more than two shitty pages for secrets and strategies)?
Thanks in advance!

Why? It's not like Nintendo bothered to advertise the game on TV or even push web ads for it. Nintendo sent the game to die in all regions.

Nintendo did to a pretty good job of advertising it online in a variety of ways (interviews, previews, multiple Nintendo Directs including an exclusive one hosted by Kamiya, a Twitter campaign, a Platinum Blog and that eShop 30% off discount with the purchase of Pikmin 3). It also took TW101 to all the gaming events (including road and world tours) it attended. It also had a demo release, but the lack of a TV ad is still sad. The game was expensive to make according to Platinum , so this was no low-budget effort, but it seems like NOA didn't have much faith in it spending the resources on a TV ad when the game obviously has limited appeal. I guess we're lucky to have this game even localized. Nintendo didn't have much faith in marketing other games like Xenoblade even when it looked like there was consumer demand for it overseas. Xenoblade did end up selling well given NOA's limited marketing approach for it.

Doesn't it have a general notice for getting PP like you have to recruit some enemies, save civilians, levels having an overall time to not exceed?

The general description is what you think. Ni clue why you're not getting it.

Hit up JP or Kamiya on twitter. Show them your image.

In the end TV ads are the most effective form of advertising. Even web ads would be more effective then what they did, especailly when played on youtube, hulu.com, etc. All that they did was seen by a few and even among that group are plenty of people the game would not click with. TV ads would have been seen by hundreds of thousands if not millions. Widening the potential market exponentially.

Anyone know how you can see those profiles you get when you get a new Wonderful member? or even those ID cards for the major characters.

Just finished Operation 004. A little bummed out. A number of missions where I screwed up, got hit, then screwed up by failing the Ukemi, causing me to just miss Pure Platinum. I know I shouldn't worry about it until I know where all the secret missions are... but seeing Gold instead of Platinum at the end of each mission is starting to bug me. I'm getting Gold on average for each Operation on Normal.

I finally got a Toy medal for Damage during the 1v1 boss fight. I managed to find 5 Plat coins in 3-A or 3-B, and they gave me a Wonder Dummy for it. It's the only reason why I didn't use a continue. Got Silver overall for that mission. Trying to X combo into Wonder Rising wasn't doing a lot of good.

Also, there's only one Hero Heart per Operation between A and B, right? Then thanks to a tip I got about Operation 003, I've found every Hero Heart so far. Operation 003 has the most hidden one of the first four.

Gonna eat some dinner, then tackle Operation 005.

Two in Op-007-A. When you get to Op-007-B, you'll see it's kinda hard to put any hero hearts there.

NoA hasn't been the same for years now. It's missing a figure head. But you can't have our Shibata! :<

What the hell am I supposed to do in the indoor section of 004a?
I made it to the top of the room and hit the sword switch. Now what?

Seriously loving this game, might even be my GOTY.

How many Operations are there? Just finished the 3rd one and already have over 6 hours sunk into it.

Walk through the door with your sword out to reflect the laser. (If I'm remembering correctly)

What things should I buy from the Wonderful Mart first? Unite Morphs? Custom Blocks? Skills? Anything in particular that should be purchases as early as possible? So far I've only bought the first four Unite Morphs (Guts, Spring, Ball, and Rocket).

So, I bought the game digitally the other day and I havent gotten into playing it yet, my younger sister (10) wants to play it, how bad is the content?

Guts, Spring, and Speed Charge are the first three things everyone needs as far as I'm concerned. Then Unite Charge after you have a second spot for a block. I haven't tried everything yet, though.

There's some zooming in on ladybutts and posing. The violence is all pretty cartoony, though.
(One guy gets cut in half and keeps on talking like Bugs Bunny or something.)

I always stick to skills and techniques starting out in action games.

Custom blocks are really expensive and a lot of them seem like noob traps that aren't worth their cost.

Some custom blocks are really good and game changers like ukemi and hero time, but as a rule of thumb I always unlock the base moveset first in every game.

I don't mean this to be offensive, but you don't really know what you're talking about. You simply aren't correct.

I will try and do this succinctly.
I'm not privy to any specifics here but I imagine they follow similar business practices.

NOA is a subsidiary of NCL.
NCL has a revenue target they inform investors. They set a contribution goal for each subsidiary in profit. They are then given a budget to reach that contribution goal.

What they do with that budget is NOAs job, it's their market, as long as they deliver their contribution.

If you're given, making this up, $100MM and you need to report $500MM end of fiscal to your parent company, you best believe you're going to study the market and make as educated an ROI plan as you can. You have what, lets say 20 SKUs coming out in a fiscal calander. Do you really spend 10% of your budget on a TV campaign for a niche game that wouldn't get the return, or do you use that money to make Mario sell even more and get $200mm of your total right in one sku? It's a game of research, efficiency and return.

That said, noa has an idea of what their sales potential likely is and have done, I'd consider, a really good job bringing w101 to market. It's a tough year overall. I'm hoping it does well, too, but lets not get angry about it. You clearly are aware of the game and are the target market!

Edit:
Really, this can probably be used in multiple threads here heh

Those challenge rooms are hard as fuck. Double
Amoeba
is a pain in the ass.

I've seen plenty of web ads for it.
Unite Bomb
is really hard to pull off in the middle of a fight.
I personally don't really feel that the morphs are even spoilers considering mission mode will give them to you regardless of your story progress.

Nice points there, thanks for bringing some facts into the discussion. I would also add that, although it is not violent in a realistic way, the material in this game is a little off stream from the family-friendly strategy, and it will put this game on the wrong side of the impending GTA V controversy. This game is a gift from Nintendo to all the old-school fans, it was never intended to headline the console re-launch and be an immediate financial success, at least not once Nintendo changed the direction away from their established characters.

It's what we have claimed we old-timey fans want for years, and now that It's finally here, our joyous applause is being drowned out by some bored snotty multi-account wielding sociopathic entity of doom. How else can you explain all the nit-picky, completely manufactured complaints which ignore the tremendous amount of gold, platinum even, available here to someone capable of retaining a thought for more than five seconds, and for goodness' sake, can appreciate that this game does not hold your hand.

I played Earthbound for the first time a couple months ago and I was mesmerized by it. You know what the first thing that impressed me was? That the first gangster dude kicked my ass, and that I couldn't beat him until I stumbled to the store and found some equipment, figured out what it does, paid for it, equipped it, and tested it out, all without any prompts! Magic, like the developers were inside my own head, I solved a puzzle without being told what to do. Do you remember that feeling, of thinking about something for a while, and then figuring out? If you do, this game and this forum, is for you, and if you don't please come back in five years and may somebody have mercy on your soul.

Almost done downloading... so excited to play this! Kamiya is brilliant.

Rotating between this, GTA V, Outlast, Papers Please, and Rayman Legends is going to make for a fantastic next few weeks! Was hoping to finish reading The Princess Bride before the craziness started but... no dice now.

Unite Ball helps with some of the platforming sections.

Gave up on Newegg when it didn't ship today. Cancelled the $53.99 order and went to Wal-Mart and bought it for the standard price. Oh well, savings or no, I needed to get this game. I just have to wait til tomorrow now to play it.

Exactly! It really pisses me off how poorly Nintendo handled this game's promotion, on a console barely clinging to life, no less. Real freaking smart...

People always complain about how publishers market these games with narrow niche appeal.

Can't wait for people to turn on Nintendo when Bayo 2 drops after reminding everyone in every thread how they saved the game from Sega!!

As long as Nintendo puts out a new Bayo 2 trailer for TGS season it's whatever. I don't really care if it's effective marketting I just want some new media

I'm loving this game *so much* so far. That Laambo boss fight was amazing.

Great couple weeks of gaming. This + Puppeteer are in my top 5 GOTY so far.
