PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Because you stretched a 4:3 game into widescreen.

You might be right about OLED and color space, but we can't trust your word on that because you're clearly insane.

This.

When I had my Vita I had the emulators installed and it did look nice, I agree with that. But if I hadn't seen it all myself, I wouldn't believe you simply because you massacred the visuals.

has anyone transferred a ps1 save from their pc (played in an emulator like epsxe) *back* onto their psp using 6.60 firmware?

the only way to do so seems to be with cwccheat but all the info online alludes to ancient firmwares like 3.71

Question: I've ripped a PSX game and converted to eboot using psx2psp. On the latest CFW for PSP do I still need pops loader stuff to get it running? One game (Blazing Dragons) worked fine without any pops loader but then I tried Parasite Eve and got nothing just black screen.

Thanks!

It really just depends on the game, some games work fine, others are a major pain in the ass.

However, Parasite Eve (and PE2) both have PSN releases, so that's always an option as well.

How do I install the goddamn plugins?! I want MagicSave because my jpcsp saves are corrupt. I put the magicsave.prx inside seplugin, then made game.txt and wrote ms0:/seplugins/MagicSave.prx 1. Restarted psp into recovery mode, there is no plugin to select. In game I also cant bring the magicsave menu with + -

What did I do wrong? Is there an alternative?

All Popsloader does is allow you to run older versions of the PS1 emulator on newer firmwares.

When Sony updates the emulator, there's times when it breaks compatibility with games (remember, Sony is developing the PS1 emulator to support all games, just the ones they put up on PSN).

Certain games work better on the older firmwares. It's really just a lot of trial and error. The PSP scene isn't as popular as it used to be, and a lot of information has fallen to the wayside.

As for Parasite Eve, I can't comment on that since I bought the PSN release, which runs fine on 6.60

Well Grandia PSN is broken on CFW 6.60, just have go back to OFW. Is that true for all PSN releases?

I also just beat Valkyrie Profile, what an amazing game. Trying to figure out what to play next:

Grandia
Valkyria Chronicles 2
Tactics Ogre
Final Fantasy Tactics
Jeanne D'Arc
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Anybody know how to get Cardcaptor Sakura with Tetris working? Tried different versions of popsloader but had no luck. At best I get it to run and the Playstation logo pops up but then it's a black screen. Also can't find any information about it on any compatibility lists since it's probably a bit more obscure. I just really want a great version of Tetris on my Go, lol.

There are a couple of things you could do. There are different version of POPSLoader that work better for different firmwares so finding a modified version for the specific firmware may help. It did for me when I was trying to get Gundam Battle Assault 2 working on 6.60 PRO-C when it worked fine when I was on 5.00M33-6.

The other thing you want to try if you haven't is to play around with each version of the POPS from different firmwares if you have them available. The more of them you have the better chance you'll find one that'll actually boot the game. The usual ones I try first are 3.40, 3.71 & 3.72 because one of those 3 will usually get the game to run at least the ones I play anyway.

I think one of my friends actually has that game lying around somewhere in his basement. I'll see if he can find it and see if I can get it to work.

I appreciate the help, I have work off for the next 4 days so I'll play around with them all.

I'm trying to find an old application for the PC. I used it to reorder my games on my PSP Go, but I can't remember what it was called? I'm pretty sure I didn't have to use custom firmware to use it.

Also, will a 16gb memory stick micro (M2) work on my PSP Go?

All my attempts to get that running failed. It's been a while and I didn't do much, so I can't really help you there, but If you succeed, please, let us know.

Have you tried playing around with compression settings during conversion?

I saw that there was some earlier discussion about using the Photofast 5400 adapter thingy with 2 Micro SD cards. I didn't really see a confirmation, but can anyone with experience with this thing comment on the reliability, especially with respect to custom firmware?

Assuming I get the genuine Photofast 5400 adapter, would it be just as reliable as getting a 32gb Pro Duo? Are there any limitations to using two Micro SD cards in an adapter as one Pro Duo card other than the way you have to format it and the fact that you cant hot swap the cards?

Thanks for any replies! I'm trying to figure out if I should just buy a 32gb Pro Duo or get the adapter and go for 64gb with 2 32gb Micro SDs. I think I would be ok with just 32gb by the way, so the extra storage isn't that important. It's more an issue of price.

The adapter works perfectly fine. You stick the microsd cards in then format in the psp and it's pretty much like anything else.. however last time I checked you could only get 32gb max. The advantage was that the price for microsdhc is a lot lower than the memory stick pro duo. I'm pretty sure that the discussion above is confused but I'll go check now to verify.

Edit:
http://gbatemp.net/threads/is-the-psp-capable-to-accept-a-64gb-microsd.320531/

Apparently you can have the larger sizes but I couldn't distill it down into definitive information as they talk about different adapters (not just photofast), different firmware etc.

I'd buy a Vita for sure if I could get cfw on it to play Crisis Core and Digimon World 2003 as well. Then get the FF:X HD and the PSOne versions of VII and IX and I really am sorted.

Only a hundred-ish quid at the mo too.

Will the brightness 4 be automatically available after booting in cfw or is there something additional that has to be installed to get it to work?

Make sure you have the original PhotoFast adapter, not the shitty cloned ones: http://forum.romulation.net/index.php?topic=33617.0

Make sure you're not changing firmware versions between saves. Sometimes, a save will be corrupt when you change from a specific firmware number to another (I forget which one is it). However, all your saves are still readable, they just need to be converted, which is done with a VHS Plugin (doesn't seem to be your case)

Check your SD Cards. If they're fake ones, they could be giving out with time/giving read/write errors.

I have a problem with my PSP that the reader is busted - I need to put a piece of paper to secure the PhotoFast (or MMC) in place so the PSP will detect it. I guess the contacts got bent or something. I did have a fake low quality MMC in it for the longest time, maybe that's what did it.

Those are all things to consider.

Thanks for the tips. I just checked and I think my adapter is not original, so im sure thats it.

Another question, just got a PSP Go and component cables, is there any way to play with a DS3 via bluetooth??? Thanks

Hey guys. I found my old dex drive and there are some files I want to convert to a format the psp or vita can read. Is there any way I can do this?

I don't know. I do know that I have a Dex Drive and I once tried to convert my saves for use on an emulator, but every damn PSX emulator out there came up with a new memory card format, and none of them were compatible with Dex Drive or each other. I tried using some format converters, but they were a pain in the ass and none of them worked as advertised. I eventually gave up.

And the PSP's PSX emulator was made by Sony, so I'm sure it doesn't match any existing memory card format either.

But hopefully the save conversion tools have become more mature since I tried using them, which was quite some time ago.

If you have a PS3 and are able to hunt down one of the old PS3 memory card adapters, yes. Otherwise, no there is no way.

You have to format the saves to Sony's own emulator save format. AFAIK no one has made a conversion way outside of Sony's own transfer process.

Actually, if you can convert it to .mcr, you can try to load it through CWcheat.
wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3931

Someone from another forum said it's easier than that when he used CWcheatpops. Whatever he meant, I'm not really into the emulation part of CFW (now that I think of it, he could have meant using PS2 HB to dump the memory card is easier, not loading the card on the emulation. Whatever).
He managed to continue playing FFT from the PS1 itself (or did he play it on PS2 with BC? Anyway, the actual console) to the PS1 emu on the PSP, though - so it's possible even, if it's an imperfect workaround.

I've heard that there are some issues with 6.60 Pro C2 - something about a FFFFFFF error with certain PSX games. Has that been fixed? I've read that Pro C F3 or something is the best, is that true?

Also, I also read through my Googling skills (admittedly weak), that Popsloader plugin is not really necessary anymore, is that true?

Thanks!!

I have an old psp 1001, and it has 3.02 oe-b installed. I think this is a Dark Alex custom firmware from 2006 or so. I'm having trouble tracking down how to upgrade to 6.60 and then to 6.60cfw.

I cant simply upgrade the psp to 6.60, I get a "DADADADA" error. I think I need to downgrade to 1.5 or something that isn't custom firmware before I can upgrade to 6.60.

But most of the information around the internet about doing this is really dated and thus filled with dead links.

I found this guide about a recorvery pack for 3.02 OE-A - 3.40 OE-A, which states I can downgrade to 1.5
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/threads/49967-Recovery-pack-for-3-02OE-A-3-40OE-A

But I can't find a download for this recovery pack. Is there something I'm missing? Or any other routes I can take to upgrade this old cfw to the new 6.60 custom firmware?

edit: i think I found what I was searching for http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f63/recovery-pack-3-02oe-3-40oe-8852/

Is it possible to move a save from a game on a CFW PSP so it will work on a Vita?

I want to just buy the game to play on my Vita as I dont play my PSP much anymore, but I really don't want to start over again...

I don't see why it wouldn't work, I moved my PS1 save files over for the PSN games I have and it worked just fine.

Unless it's an older save (from like M33 era) it'll most likely work. M33/Dark_Alex did some shit that broke save files since he did his own methods of saves back in that era and anything saved during then had to be fixed.

But anyway, if you're on the latest firmware, it's basically the same as the Sony one. Just send it to a PC or PS3 and then send it to your new system.

After reading this I noticed my adapter is a fake, does anyone know where I can get an official one in the UK? I don't know if I should trust the £1.99 adapter being dispatched from Hong Kong on Amazon.

Also, How do I update to 6.60 PRO C-2 when I'm on 6.60 PRO ME-1.8? Do I just follow the 6.60 instructions or should I uninstall PRO ME-1.8 first?
