Kotaku: NFS Rivals "indistinguishable" between PS4/PC, XB1 version not present

lol at "maybe you'll be able to crunch AI numbers slightly better". I guess it's kind of like comparing 1959 and 1961 Bordeaux wine.

There should definitely be no gimping going on. This parity stuff is nonsense. If there is not significantly more work involved to make the game look or perform better on one platform over another, the dev should do the honest and right thing and allow the engine to scale. This goes for PC, PS4, X1, etc. (across the board).

Definitely

Obviously Sony gave a moneyhat to EA and asked them to maintain parity with the PS3 version. Because if console gamers ever saw the pc version of NFS THE RUN running at 60 FPS beside the 30 fps ps3 version, ps3 sales would cease the next day. I think sapient wolf is on to something with his theory
My argument is that the framerate on the PC port will not be locked at launch, and there will be no cut graphical features. They're just running it locked at the trade shows to match console settings. If that's insane then that kind of insanity happens all the time.

I'm not saying that Sony is moneyhatting EA to sabotage the PC port. Read carefully.

Not really.

Back during the PS2 gen, EA games were shown on that console but that didn't mean that the Xbox version of the games looked worse.

They showed off the lead and if you were around back then the ps2 had more sparks, meaning best version lol.

Does it not bother xbox one buyers that barely any of these multiplatform games have been shown on the platform?

They should be concerned. Hell I would be if I was purchasing it. Only games I've seen shown for X1 multiplats has been EA sports games. Which isn't saying much.

Curious indeed.

Perhaps.

I also think the poor performance of last year's NFS game on PC (it was rough even on a 7970) has something to do with it.

On the macro level, I think there's going to be a shift back towards prioritizing the console versions of games. Now that there's somewhat parity in terms of power, I worry that the PC versions are going to be neglected like they were earlier in the gen. Time will tell on that front.

Dude there is no rationalisation or justification for rivals being 30 fps locked on PC
they fucked up.

But on the flip side, if the game looks the same on both X1 and Ps4, why have both consoles? In either situation only having one version makes more sense.

And while yes, the consoles aren't out yet the PS4 obviously has/had more positive reception.

If both versions look identical, then wouldn't EA's special relationship with MS at the moment mean they'd favour showing the Xbox version?

As for the PC version, haven't EA had a few racing games initially capped at 30fps?

These are the co-marketing/content deals iirc.

Sony
Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Watch_Dogs
Activision: Destiny, Diablo III
Take-Two: NBA 2K14

Microsoft:
EA: FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Battlefield 4 - seem to have a very broad partnership deal, so it likely extends beyond just these titles.
Activision: Call of Duty: Ghosts

Not sure if I'm missing any?

Which consoles, if any, have these games been shown on. I know a PS4 trailer of NBA 2K14 was released. And Battlefield 4 has been playable on both?

If anyone is buying an Xbone for third party games, well... Ignorance is bliss. They'll probably want to stay out of the Digital Foundry threads.

I think the Ubisoft games have been shown on PS4, not 100% sure. Ghosts was shown on PC (with Xbox controllers). No idea about the others.

I've read that FIFA has been demoed on both,

I'm sure quite a few of them are concerned, but most of them won't admit it. I remember seeing a lot of multiplat comparison war threads since 2006 and the xbros would use the "we have the superior versions of multiplats" as one of the main advantages of owning a 360. All evidence, so far, shows they have lost that advantage and talking point. It will be interesting to see what happens cause multiplats do sell better than exclusives, and sell consoles as we saw recently with the GTA5 bundle.

Microsoft moneyhatted Activision for COD and they don't even show it running on XB1? Yeah, I would be worried.

Why would anyone on GAF be concerned? No one intends to buy it for multiplatform games.

Why would you buy it for then? 720/900P exclusives?

I never said they did.

No one buys any console strictly for multiplatform games. But lets be real, people buy multiplatform games. I personally, would be concerned if most of the games I plan on buying are not being shown. Especially a month from launch.

Maybe a topic for another thread, because theres not much discussion from GAF on this.

Yeah, apparently some of them are content with the lower resolutions as long as the gameplay is great. If CBOAT is correct, they're gonna have to get used to an upscaling generation again. I would not be content with that, this isn't 2006.

Are people not being massively over dramatic?

The console isn't even released until next month and they way some people are going on you'd think it was already deemed only capable of ports akin to a Spectrum 48k.

Though I respect your knowledge that a Spectrum 48k even existed. No one is reaching that far. It's a relatively simple question. No one is being over dramatic.

I think that is why people should be worried. The games have to go gold a good 3-4 weeks before launch to get the disks manufactured and sent to retailers. If they don't see that the game is fit to be shown to the public, then it shouldn't be sent to the presses.

So you complain about people being over dramatic and then you go ahead and pull the most hyperbolic shit ever?

You're paying an extra $100 and you're getting inferior versions of multiplatform games. What a great deal. :p

A console where the games rarely even hit full 1080p is a cause for concern.
Im paying a extra 100$ for everything just not the multiplats, the OS, the exclusives, community, online. Some of you need to step out that closed bubble.

Many of the EA games have been shown on X1 hardware, sometimes in public hands-on sessions actually (BF4, Fifa,...).
As far as I'm concerned I'm not too worried about the state of multiplatforms. I wouldn't be surprised if they were a prettier on PC or PS4, but I don't expect huge differences either. Additional effects or slightly higher resolution probably. Similar differences from someone playing PC games on a good config compared to a very good config.
I'd be worried if we were to see many dramatic differences between versions like Bayonetta on this gen, but even then most "inferior versions" seemed perfectly enjoyable.

I'm not sure why people anticipate a game being shown on all platforms. Traditionally they're shown on either which ever is the lead platform, or whatever is inline with any co-marketing deals.

It's not like we typical do get to see both versions.

You forgot to list what you're ACTUALLY paying an extra 100 bucks for. :p You can try to justify the cost by listing featured that aren't particularly unique to the system (both have exclusives, both have unique OS features, both have unique online features) but it's the Kinect sensor that you're actually paying more for. That would be fine if they both had the same amount of power but you're still paying a lot more for a much weaker system.

Not saying you're wrong to do so, since there are certainly attractive things about the Bone. But it's not really surprising that there isn't much enthusiasm for the system both from consumers and devs.

True. But to this extent? I mean the amount of multiplatform games shown on xbox one thus far could be counted on one hand.

And it's not like they are only showing one sku of a game. It seems like xbox one is the only one consistently left out between PC/PS4/Xbox One.

1. OS - The bloated 3 OS's that take an addition 10% of resources away from games.
2. Exclusives - 720P, 900P and 1080P (that looks pretty bad)
3. Community - They are going to PSN for the most part. Hopefully the COD crowd sticks around on XB1 though.
4. Online - POWER OF THE CLOUD!

Depends what the reasons are. If they are truly behind and look terrible compared to their PS4/PC counterparts, there's real cause for concern.

if it's simply down to Sony grabbing marketing and talking rights, then there's really nothing to worry about.

Am I wrong to be willing to pay the extra 100$? I mean I prefer xbox so im gonna buy it at launch. To be honest I feel indifferent about kinect on one hand yea they shouldnt put it in the console and make it optional on the other hand I cant wait to try some if the features and how it works. Sure its the weaker syst but it already has good looking games im not sure what weak means if we got games looking like ryse.

I'm sure it's true sony has some moneyhats involved with a few titles. NBA2k14 and Watchdogs/AC4 are ones I can think off the top. But NFS? EA has already shown fifa on xbox one, no?

I tried listing out the co-marketing/content deals above.

So for something like NBA 2K14, with massive billboards up that only mention PlayStation systems, no eyebrows are raised when the PS4 version is the one shown (it may or may not still be the better version regardless). Or for Ubisoft's titles where they show the "PS4" version, or rather button prompts.

But Microsoft and EA have been very public about their unprecedented partnership, co-marketing, exclusive or timed exclusive content and games.

So the absence of the Xbox One SKU of EA's NFS: Rivals is conspicuous.
