Oh! What do I know! Thought it was worth a shot! :D
You can't summon CBOAT. He just happens to pass through our dimension here and there. Hence communication jam, it's caused by rogue bozons passing through his transmission.

Speaking about insiders, does anybody know what happened to Tidux?

If everyone tells the truth, MS can't blacklist everyone. Beyond that, you can live without an early review copy. Wait until the game comes out, buy it, and report on it. No one can stop you from doing that or blacklist you from doing that.

If major review outlets all got blacklisted and reported truthfully on what happened and why, is that really worth it for MS? If these people like the idea of speaking "truth to power" why not, uh, do it?

Well, they can if they really wanted to, though it is unlikely assuming everyone decided to report on such a story. But it's not just losing out on review copies, it's also events, exclusive stories/info/footage/etc. as well. It's a risk I doubt too many are willing to take.

Journalists also use that (games journalism) as a springboard to actually get into the industry (working for x company), so there's that to consider as well. Though that probably wouldn't be the case with Sessler or Gies necessarily, but a phenomenon that isn't uncommon in this medium.

This is the problem with gaming journalism and it's been that way for a while now. Journalists in gaming tend to want to be buddy-buddy and they don't want to rock the boat because it could come back to bite them on the ass later. But that's cowardice, plain and simple. It also means they're not doing their job.

This is also a part of it too, yes. They're more concerned with their relationship to said company rather than journalistic integrity.

Whilst the speculation meta-game is utterly fascinating, I genuinely feel for the guys and girls that have their livelihoods depending on these machines. So much work went into both of these machines and for the Xbox the situation is coming to a head yet again so far in the process.

Those Microsoft guys and girls have been scrambling like maniacs since May (or so I assume) and I have nothing but respect for that. If COD comes in at 720p then own that and believe in your platform, this dodging and rhetoric only further damages the people that have worked so hard to write the ship.

I know. Let's not get it twisted. Xbone will sell out this holiday right along with the PS4. That kind of news overpowers anything else at the time which reviews fall into that category.

I'm not sure, the long-ass Wii U update got more traction here than its initial sellout.

In other words they're just vehicles for the companies to advertise their products. If they're not going to be critical then they're just serving as advertisement for games

That's not true at all.

Did you already forgot about madden 30/60 FPS . I would say cod 4 was the first big Multiplatform game that finally didn't gimp ps3

I did forget about that. I was strictly speaking launch, though. Wasn't '07 still 30FPS on the 360?

Hard work is not enough to over come stupidity. First of, their design philosophy of dug them a big hole. Instead of designing a game machine, they wanted a general purpose set top box with 8GB RAM in mind. Which forced them to use a slow DDR3 and include a large 32 MB eSRAM. Sony wisely used that extra transistor space to include more GPU cores. Nothing can overcome stupidity. Just focus on creating exclusive games and move on. Think like Nintendo.

LOL! Didn't Tidux say we'd get some overview of the UI from IGN in a couple of weeks? That never happened. :/

He said it isnt about game performance. So there really is nothing to talk about.

Embargos define our hobby. A little more waiting isnt the end of the world.

Oh god, Arthur 'Don't Believe his" Geis saying truth to power made me throw up in my mouth. MS doesn't need to embargo him, he wouldn't have said anything negative anyway. He's always got secret sauce he can fall back on.

The "problem" is that it only takes one suck up, who gets all the advertising/traffic early access, previews, early reviews etc that makes other outlets compete for said attention.

So I was reading the twitter right now...

Gies confirmed the rumors? Sessler is upset about that? What happened? It is too hard to understand these tweets :(

actually it was pretty weird those first two years....but you're right Madden 08 was 60fps vs 30fps...and that is when a majority of muliplats tilted in the 360's favor.

however at launch the PS3 had quite a # of better multiplats though.

Madden 07 had two man tackling, better AF, more detail
NBA 2k7 was legit 1080p, where as the Xbox version was 720p
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance was legit 1080p

These 3 came out later than their Xbox counter parts, but looked MUCH better.

Full Auto 2- legit 1080p
Ridge Racer 7 - legit 1080p
Fight Night Round 3 - High resolution characters and MUCH better lighting.

it amazes me that some guys on here and elsewhere will order day one Xbone, The PS4 has been better with their disclosure...

But if this is M$ locking down everything it is crazy people are still willing to drop money on it...

It is like you agreeing to buy a new car, when all you can see is the outside!

Would you do it....No of course not, yet people are gladly handing over cash for a unknown..

I personally would not even do the PS4, but at least they have some credit

As Kevin Dent said, it's all inside baseball for now. No one except some select people have a clue.

Ryan Q ‏@TyrantII 59m
@TheKevinDent Is this bad news for gamers? Should we be worried, or is it a industry thing?

Stuff gets delayed. I think we can call the bullshit only it doesn't happen over the next 2 weeks.

Besides, he's not the only one who haven't delivered on promises of an UI overview.

I'm thinking possibly this or next week. GameStop kiosks are rumored to go up this week.

As someone who actually loves CoD, this pleases me. I know BF looks better but CoD is simply more fun (for me!).

This is the superior and best CoD version then, if the Xbone one is 720. (PC version is irrelevant because of rampant cheating)

Sorry I'm not native English... can you help me to understand "inside baseball"?

Edit - I think I get it... it is like a secret inside the team (MS and devs)?

Naivety maybe but stupidity no. You raise some good points and agree that they have been outclassed at every turn by Sony. But those design and strategy choices are made by a small subset of a very large group and I feel for the broader group that share in the lumps that are being delivered.

What does make me angry are guys like Gies who are incredibly privileged to be able to do what they do based on their relative skillset, needlessly increasing speculation and refusing to provide substance. That Sessler/ Dent / gies exchange had no reason to go on twitter.

Next time any one of these guys mention their own name and the word journalist in the same fucking paragraph, I'll remind them of today.

This.

Shit is embarrassing. If your job is to report on gaming news and investigate something, then fucking follow through with it instead of bending to the will of these big companies. If Microsoft is being a shady piece of shit, then report in it. All this does is enable them to keep being shady.

"Inside baseball" is a phrase used when only a group of people have detailed knowledge about the topic and it all seems vague and confusing to outsiders. In this case, it would be the "journalists" (who are aware of what's going on) vs the rest of the world (who don't have a clue).

EDIT: Beaten like a rabid dog!

Microsoft is lined up to have a very bad launch anyways. Not because they won't sell out, they will, but because their allocations to retailers are pathetic. At least to my company. I was curious about how much OO we had for XB1 and PS4 so I looked up the SKU's and then looked to see what PO's/Allocations we had for each. My company is getting 3x as many PS4's on launch than XB1's.

One thing I found interesting is that we had 2 SKU's for XB1 but only 1 of them had any SS data. I assume the one with allocations are the special launch days SKU's?

US or EU? I expect this difference in EU or even more... US I expect a close battle.

Yup. Selling out doesn't mean shit. What matters is how many units you actually sell

There is a day 1 one bundle and a regular bundle.

the only way they would ever care is if you were sony or microsoft and giving them free subs and games. Always found the free shit part of gaming "journalism" shady as fuck. Like accepting bribes without being explicit in what those bribes are for, just a gentle nudge and a wink.

I have to imagine that it is incredibly difficult to get manufacturing run slots with Foxconn as a software company like Microsoft.

US only.

Whoa! Also, what's SS data?

SS = Stock Status; which is on order, on hand, in transit and sales data.

There is a day 1 one bundle and a regular bundle.

Okay, so I guess the SKU I see allocations for is the day 1 bundle and the other SKU is the regular bundle. Is there supposed to be regular bundles on day 1 as well or is that after day 1?

Edit: I should probably add that my company is only regional in the US and is small (as in number of stores) compared to the Best Buys, GameStops and Walmarts. So it could be that we just got a bad allocation from MS.

Day 1 bundle is only available until it's gone, the rest should be normal SKUs. I don't know what their plan is as far as sending them out, so it's hard to say.

Erm, not really. It's mostly about securing the procurement, and setting up the slots months in advance, and ensuring that everything else not-related to the plant is JIT.

There's of course, advantageous deals, but those are in the scale of Apple products and Samsung smartphones, stuff that will sell 10x more than consoles in 1/5th the time.

You really only fuck-up manufacturing lines when retooling, staffing and external procurement timing completely goes haywire.
