MS promises to bring more first party games to PC

"I think it's fair to say that we've lost our way a bit in supporting Windows games," Microsoft Studios VP Phil Spencer admitted. "But we're back."

I needed to press further. I wanted him to explicitly tell me that there are PC games coming from Microsoft first-party. And he complied. "You'll see us doing more stuff on Windows. We probably have more individual projects on Windows than we've had in ten years at Microsoft Studios."

Having that kind of interoperability is crucial to improving the value of Xbox Live, Spencer points out. "Let's start to act like a true first-party across all these devices. A service like Xbox Live that knows me and my content and my friends and achievements across all these devices. I think that's an advantage for us."

"can't wait to pick up ryse in the windows 8 app store"- no one, ever

Eh, I'll welcome the option. Of course, I'd rather just buy MS published games straight from Steam but I know there is not a chance in fucking hell that will ever happen.

But if I can get Dead Rising 3 at a non-shitty framerate and non-shitty resolution on my PC and I have to jump through a few of their dumb, corporate hoops, I'll jump through them.

It's not that big of a deal: "Add non-Steam game to my library" download custom icon. Done. I can then just pretend it was on Steam all along.

Well they did just bring Jason Holtman in, ex-Vavle employee who helped build Steam, to help rebuild the PC side of things. I expect the launch of a Xbox PC Game Store around June or July of next year.

Oh, clever you.

I think there's a lot of PC gamers who would appreciate the likes of Forza though, along with the upcoming stuff like Quantum Break etc. But it's pretty obvious that MS's intention is that you'll buy these from the new Windows store.

I would upgrade to Windows 8 just to play Killer Instinct. That way I don't have to buy a new console for 1 game

You're back to PC? Where you ever here to begin with? Other than GFWL which actually turned a lot of people away from PC gaming.. Maybe that was your intent.

Actually now that you mention it, I think Quantum Break would be a VERY likely candidate. Remedy always had intentions of releasing on PC and they were happy with how Alan Wake performed several years later. It seems like a good way to buffer their project's sales.

Y'know, most of my friends are less serious gamers than me and as such they play mainly on xbox 360.

I actually enjoyed gfwl for one reason, because it let me talk to those friends while I play games (talking on the phone while playing games is physically awkward and you won't be able to hear both the game and the person clearly).

Too bad that all my friends are getting the PS4 now, so even if they released an amazing new gfwl 2.0 and kept online play free I wouldn't care at this point.

This is something that Microsoft do right and Sony need to follow.

I hope they stay with Steam (and no Win8 only BS) like what they are doing now, Microsoft allow their IP like State of Decay to be on Steam (and published games like Mark of Ninja as well) it's good for Microsoft and the developers and the gamers and don't really hurt Xbox.

MS, if you really care, release them on Steam. Don't make them Win8 exclusive or even bother with GFWL 2.0.

They care about Windows, so even if they do release them on Steam, it won't also be on SteamOS.

They've already released some games on Steam however. Mark of the Ninja for example.

All of a sudden my decision to not buy an Xbox 1 because of how MS always seems to struggle with the definition of exclusive seems like it's going to pay off yet again. My next purchase will be an upgraded PC for sure now.

If they are offering I'll take Dead Rising 3. But not on your shit Windows 8 store. Put it on Steam where the rest of your current games are going.

I really doubt that they're going to use the W8 store for PC ports. MGS's latest title, State of Decay, is on Steam. And the Halo games are in the database.

Optimism! Maybe KI will make it to PC! Optimism!

Actually you are right. I forgot about the Windows 8 bullshit.

It takes some fucking doing but you can still link Win 8 apps in Steam. You just got to do a bunch of bullshit to create the shortcut. I've done it but it took a long as time and wasn't optimal.

But still, my point stands. If I can get a good version of games like Dead Rising or Quantum Break on PC and I have to put up with their app store bullshit, so be it. It's better than not getting them or having to play the shittier console version.

honestly sounds like the interviewer just poked and prodded his way to this vague and noncommittal answer. Doubt anything good comes of this.
